So this is a question I got since they changed to rules. In the past, as it was forbidden to gift freebies I guess these people got banned. But now Freebies that are getting listed just dont add any CV. So for the example now: Amnesia Collection is currently free and people are giving it away as fast as possible to gain the CV for it and with 35 P to enter it sure will be a nice amounf of CV.

Of course the staff will add the game to the Freebie list, but what happens with the Amnesia Bundle Giveaways, that are already over and points got granted to that time?

Is there an automated process that checks for previous Freebie Giveaways in the past hours?

Or do they have to do it maunally?

Or don't they do it at all?

Staff answers would be helpfull

Is it ok to gift a game that is free at the moment as quick as possible to get the CV points?

I don't know

No, only GA's that were created/ended when the game becomes free. For example, every Amnesia collection given away/ended before today will still grant the according CV, same as with games that get bundled - if you've given it before it got heavily discounted/bundled, you'll still receive full CV.

EDIT: Look at Khalak's answer, he's a moderator. After all, seems like only the date the GA was created is of importance.

According to what a mod said in one post long ago that is wrong. It is retroactive. So since they will put today (lets say 8AM) for the free. Every GA that ended after that time will give 0CV(meaning every GA now)

That's what I meant and is the reason why I specifically added 'ended' instead of just saying 'created'. Every game given away or ending AFTER the game became free (meaning the day it first went free), will be reduced to 0 value. I was watching TV and preparing some food while simultaneously writing my reply, I really shouldn't do that ;>.

That's pretty bad especially if a person say made a month long giveaway and then the game becomes free on like the third week.

The old giveaways will still give the CV they did give before the game became free .
The only thing that affect them is eventual price change on Steam store side .
So no old giveaway will be affected.
Only the new ones that are trying to abuse the game being free will have their GAs give 0 CV

The CV will get removed from all those people giving it away. Same as bundled games. It's retroactively applied back to the day when the giveaway or bundle occurred. Anyone who legitimately gave it away before the day it was free will not be harmed and they will keep their CV.

Which day are you talking about. For example lets say Amnesia is free since 1 pm (only to make the example clear) do the staff guys really check back the giveaway sites to see when the freebie went online, or do they take the time stamp/day when they got the report ticket?

It's not specific to the exact time -- they just use the date. So, any giveaway created on or after January 25 will get no CV for Amnesia Collection. Even if they do not make this update for a month -- once they do make the update, everything from January 25th onward will have the CV recalculated.

So, there is no way to cheat the system in the long-term by hurrying to make a giveaway -- at the "best", if they make a 1 hour giveaway and the winner marked it as received immediately, they could potentially level up temporarily until the site gets updated, at which point their level will be reduced back to where it should have been. And if level 2 person won a level 3 giveaway they entered during this temporary period, that giveaway creator could ask for a re-roll, probably.

You can view the additions to the bundle list here to see what I mean: http://www.sgtools.info/lastbundled

I don't think the "free" list is public, but works the same way.

No. The CV is only removed from the date that the game was free.

Note that this is different than price changes, which are retroactive and affect everything (because otherwise SG would have to track every price over time.) If the price of a game drops to 10 cents permanently on Steam as its base price, then every giveaway that was ever made for it will now be worth only $0.10 CV.

However, if it's given away for free, only giveaways after that point will be affected.

Heh.. never realised this. Do people seriously think they will get CV if they rush to post GA ?
I always thought they just have the game and theyre giving away the spare..

I think so, most of the GA's are max. 30 min ...

Exactly, most are hoping to squeeze it in before it gets noticed.

It only happens when the store price on steam becomes free for good.

Example:

Bob creates a giveaway for Game X on Friday.
The game is given away for free on Saturday.
Doug remembers he has a copy of the game sitting around and creates a giveaway for it on Saturday.

Bob's giveaway will give him CV. Doug's will not.

Hm, what if Bob's GA ends on Sunday, will he get CV or not?

The ending date is irrelevant.
