Plugins support are not available in Fraps, if you need such features you have to find other software alternative.
Try dxtory.

or "MSI Afterburner" (also got GPU monitoring and overclocking features as well as barely any FPS hit while recording with 720p)

You do realize what this software is for? It's a cheap little program that can do some nice tricks for you, that's it. Nothing professional.

Just get a better screen recorder to be completely honest. Fraps is about the worst out there.

Alternatives:
PlayClaw (haven't used this myself, has shadow record)
dxtory (a LOT of settings, really nice)

As for codec, I recommend getting lagarith lossless codec. Worked really well for me in the past

fraps might have been the best a few years ago because it was the only option. But saying it's the best program now just makes you sound stubborn and unwilling to try other programs.

Wow, a review that seems tailored to get fraps at the top?

The fraps codec is crap and I can't even use a better one if I want to.
Also, I have 3 audio sources to record. OH WAIT you can't in fraps.
(ignoring all other missing options from fraps for now)

Seriously, Fraps is only good if it happens to work for you. If you want a single thing different, you can't.

Fraps isn't best. IMHO dxtory is much better. Many Youtubers user dxtory too now because it makes files smaller in size and it's codecs are much better.

Just looking at the feature comparison table it shows how fake that review is. Fraps cannot save in wmv nor mp4 format, it doesn't support live streaming, it doesn't have Youtube conversion, and doesn't support custom resolutions (you only have the option to capture at full or half the resolution).

Fraps only has two issues, one is the file sizes it makes, the other is that it does not work with all games. ( Very few games have this issue though. )

However the raw footage recorded from it is amongst the highest quality you can get so far I have seen from recording software.

So I would recommend using a compression program like VirtualDub. Using a editing program like Sony Vegas for the extra stuff :P

Ahh Fraps, still stuck in their early Y2k era of software.

I prefer GB because there is no premium version BS like with Fraps, it's 100% free.
And it does all the same things as Fraps, plus more.

Best Recording software stills in my opinion Mirilis Action, very fast and support real time encoding to MP4 with technology Quick Sync.
