My first real big win here on steam gifts was a bioshock infinite pre-order
was really really happy, then the bastard did a charge back on the release day of the game.
steam removed the game from my library, I wanted to play the game so badly I bought the game...
the worst part was that since it wasn't a pre-order i missed the slight discount, all the pre order goodies like the xcom game and like the 10 TF2 hats etc.
Sorry for your loss OP

No idea why this kind of stupidity (not the poster, I mean the guy doing the giveaway) isn't a perma ban... What kind of person believes that they can pick any game on steam, select to for a giveaway that is free to start, ignores the text explaining how the giveaway works, believing that after the giveaway it will magically be given out... By the admins of the site, no less....
And then there's the people who just do that shit for lols...
The fact mods don't see a point in taking a hard line with this stuff is the reason it keeps happening and will never stop.

It's usually done by people who don't know anything, just heard that you can get free games here.
An example: On a non-English forum someone who couldn't speak English wrote a while back that he selected a game twice and doesn't know how to receive it. He actually made two giveaways. Luckily we explained it to him in time how the site works and he asked for the deletion of those GAs, but most of the time these fake giveaways are just left to burn in eternity as the users who made them never come back to the site.

Just check the first few comments/replies on any "big title" giveaway you enter, people will usually give hints if it is not to be totally trusted (you can enter it anyway, just be aware it might be fake)...
Generally, avoid the Call of Duty giveaways, they are mostly fake :P

Yes, didnt you know? the admins are all secretly massively wealthy and just buy every game.
So I can make a giveaway for 1000 copies of some really expensive game, and it is their duty to buy it.
So says the rules of this website.
well not really. whoever hosted that give away was most likely lying to you because no one could be that dumb. Wait a week from the end of the giveaway and mark it as not received. Alternatively you could tell him that if he doesnt want the negative on his profile he has that week to buy you a copy of the game you won.
Thats about all you can do.

Wow that sucks man sorry to hear. I would be pretty livid in that situation even though there's never a guarantee to win a lot of people shell out a lot of money to make this work and I guess you can't always sift out the bad eggs or the ignorant people.

The person hosting it thought the admins at Steam Gifts would send the gift, so he did not actually have the gift. Really bums me out because the giveaway was for Borderlands 2. :/
