The keys are good if you want to play right now but if you don't plan on playing before September 26th there's no need to really get a key.

The game has trading cards, which you can't get from a free or free-to-play game (unless it switches to a free-to-play model, in which case you get one card per $9 spent), and free/F2P games don't show up in your library unless they're currently installed. As such, there can be multiple benefits to acquiring a key for a game that is about to go free.
Of course, you said "need", so I suppose it's just a distinction of where one considers gain to be enough to reach that level. :P

Cards never crossed my mind. Whether a game has cards or not doesn't matter to me to be honest. For me it's about the actual game.

The reason I didn't say anything about it was because I wasn't sure if this was against the rules. So I was waiting to hear back from another support member to find out. It was after 3am my time so I wasn't expecting a reply any time soon. I don't use the site the giveaway is on and I didn't try to get the game so I don't know what the giveaway entails. And I still don't know whether it actually is or isn't against the rule as it stands currently.
