So as my friend finally got a pc and steam, were looking for some multiplayer/co-op games to play together. Recommend any good ones?

Payday 1&2 and Borderlands 1&2
Most multiplayer games are full of cheats/hackers

In my opinion, yes. Also Left For Dead 2 is anther good co-op game.

I recommend getting the Humble Co-op Weekly Bundle

I loved Orcs Must Die! 2, Awesomenauts and Sanctum 2.. played them with a friend.
Didn't like Rocketbirds for some reason.. and did not play the rest so I can't say anything about them...

Orcs Must Die! 2 is tower defensish.. you lay traps and can also use weapons to kill them yourself

Sanctum 2 is tower defense and FPS.. you have to build the maze on your own.. set towers in build phase and then shoot them yourself when ready :P

Awesomenauts is a 2D MOBA.. I don't know what more to say xD
