Letting users create giveaways for free games is a bad idea
i'll keep it short: don't disable games that are being given away in sites during promotions.
I agree, or if they want to keep disabling them temporarily then they should disable their related special/complete/masterpiece editions as well to avoid this.

Hi Mully, I think you're right. We'll talk it over and make a decision soon.

It would be a good idea. I just took a look at https://www.steamgifts.com/archive/search?q=Layers%20of%20Fear%3A%20Masterpiece%20Edition and all of the giveaways made in the past day since the HB free GA for the base game for this complete set are "fake", and some have even been marked as received. With no way to actually see if people have the DLC they marked received from the bundle set or not, it makes it harder to check/enforce the rules. It's also referenced in this current thread:

Thanks. Just wanted to suggest the same thing as mully ;->
Aditionally (since you still have people to check GAs and add games to the free list) you could put a note (or overlay over the image) like "currently free" and put a link there (or without the link).
So anyone who wants can grab it there, anyone else can enter. But not sure if thats to much overhead, since that had to be removed when the promotion is over.
But without that literally nothing had to change. You just need to not block / reenable games.

I wonder: If the game is suspended from being given away for the time of beeing in the free promo - Couldn't you just "save up" the key and create the giveaway in 1-2 weeks? What's the point in suspending it then anyway?
IMO the game should be added to the free / no CV list from now on and that's it. A bit unfortunate for the game as a giveaway itself because no one would ever give it away again though.

I completely agree. I'm especially bothered by how much hostility there is every time a game goes free and a bunch of backseat moderators go to every giveaway for that game to tell people that they're getting banned (or even to go kill themselves, ugh...)

it doesn't help anyone, it only creates confusion and makes people hostile when they spot a different game version in a giveaway. it's not even in the faq or guidelines. you're wasting support's time by making them disable games, and later check tickets for misleading giveaways.
unless i'm missing something critical that will make things worse for sg, how's disabling games from running promos a good idea? ┐(ツ)┌
also, please update at least this part of the guidelines. it's just a sentence:
we talk a lot about new users that don't read the rules, but we can't point them to them if they aren't updated.
here's one giveaway for your leeching pleasure ^^
