I'm generally not into racing games, but this thing reminds me of the amazing Extreme G2.
Looks promising,

Thanks. Didn't know about that one, I like the soundtrack even more, but the gameplay video looks a lot more "smooth" and more like a real racing game, somehow Power Drive seems a bit more rugged, although the lack of a "kill'em'all" mode in it (according to kickstarter description) is a bit disappointing.
Yep. Why isn't it there yet?!

I'm curious. I didn't know Extreme G2 and I have been watching a youtube video. If you are not into racing games, why do you find amazing Extreme G2?
Power Drive 2000 reminds me a bit to the movie Akira, but with cars instead of motorbikes.

I've been playing it quite a while ago, so the replay impression now might differ.
Yet I remember how cool it was, that all the sounds got muted, when you've been breaking the sound barrier there and also there was a winning option of "kill all the opponents", which was my favourite choice, I guess (yep, Carmageddon is another series of racing games I'm fond of).

But Extreme G2 has motorbikes! Pretty similar to Akira in design actually (though I watched Akira after I've been playing EG2).

It seems fun, not so much a racing game (since there are no more divers) but a fast paced game in my opinion! I like the whole 80s vibe

Oh, I remember having a ton of fun with Extreme G2.
The game was bundled (along with Turok, IIRC) with a Riva TNT2 video card, and after installation (like many games of that time) only used the audio tracks from the CD. Put in a different one, get your choice of music.
Top speeds on futuristic motorbikes in vivid environments accompanied by a Vanessa Mae recordings compilation album… Classical Gas Venom!

Thanks for the heads-up, Power Drive 2000 does look interesting. And they are promising Linux support. Cool.

Ha-ha! Had that type of graphics card for years! That's probably where I got the game from.
For some reason I remember driving Extreme G2 with my own soundtrack, particularly this one. The mad speeds of the game went well with the menacing and pacifying as well rhythm of the track.
