Just wondering, tbh. I started being a little bit more active on SG these last few weeks and was surprised that I got blacklisted twice yesterday/today.

I usually blacklist only scammers (only have 2 people on BL), so I was curious about which other reasons you would blacklist someone.

Note that if someone blacklist you they are also doing it to themselves. If I were to blacklist you, then you would be unable to enter my GAs but I wold also be unable to enter yours. If I removed you, you would again be able to enter mine but it would take up to a week before I would again be able to enter yours. (it depends on how long I had you on my list, I think its the amount of time you were on the list up to a week max)

I have very few blacklists.
Reasons I have added someone.

  • saw them being a jerk to someone else.
  • caught someone being a greedy ninja.
  • guy marked a win from me as "not received" when I started a reroll on him when seeing he already owned the game.

Reasons I've used to protect myself (since BL are two way) from ever entering a GA by them.....
I think everyone on this list has since received a perm ban from the site.

  • gave hacked keys from a promo
  • someone admitted using a keygen app to do GAs.
  • someone explained how to steal from GOG.

I've got over 200 people on my blacklist. Pretty much all there because of multiple wins or mainly the unactivated ones. However don't expect this to be the normal you get blacklists for even breathing here and you most likely won't ever find them unless you somehow annoyed the active thread users

When I started out I remember I would blacklist people who didn't say thank you because like you should but the longer you stay here you just got to go screw it and not care. Saves you a lot of annoyance

yeah thats how I used to see it, like its so quick to pop in and say thanks. I stopped caring enough later on and only removed those who didn't break a rule. Since joining playing appreciated it did make me wonder more about why you wouldn't say thank you, because in that group if you say it you get an extra 10 days to play your games instead of the usual 30. Just think of sg as a video game, normal logic doesn't exist

I've always been curious about the people who blacklist their winners just for winning. I understand the idea--it gives more people on the site a chance to win, which is always a good thing--but I just have the opposite instinct. I've actually whitelisted people for nothing more than being genuinely excited about winning a game from me. It still brings a smile to my face thinking about one of my winners, who marked their game received pretty much immediately, left a really excited message of thanks, and then promptly went and started playing the game they'd won from me. It just felt like money well spent, knowing how happy it had made that person to win.

(Note: I am in no way judging/condemning people who blacklist their winners. I think the mentality behind it is actually quite laudable--seeing more people win games. It simply never occurred to me that people might do that until I read my first "why do people blacklist" thread)

Permalink

You and me both. ;)
I understand the idea, but it seems a little bit cruel as the winner can't even thank for the gift if they blacklist them soon...

I sometimes come back to share my experience with the gifter as to let them know that I have truly enjoyed my game. :)
Lately it also happened to me, when my winner told me about their game. It made me truly happy! :D

That question opens a big barrel full of reasons...

My reasons are:

  • Cheater
  • Grab Freebies with a lot of different accounts. If someone cheat at one place he do it at other ones too.
  • Scammer
  • Autojoiner
  • Not activated wins
  • No GA since 1 year+ but still active entering "all that is available"
  • Insulted me
  • Don't know the word thanks after activating a win

Trust me alone for that reasons are 1k, the max. of your BL, not enough space.

And if i know someone cheat (multiaccounter, freebies stealer and such ones) at a other page he get a BL, block and ban at all sites, discords, groups and so on where i have the possibility to handle it that way.

You will be, often, blacklisted from other people only because you have a opinion that aren't theirs.
Steamgifts is a bit crazy in that case... so often better don't think about the why :o)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What do you mean with grab freebies? Like, to give them away later? People who do that are wasting their time and being very trashy tbh lol. No CV, they don't have any use for two copies of a game (regarding playing) and are probably taking the possibility of someone who would play the game. Kinda sad to think about it.

And still SG noob here :P, what is Autojoiner?

Using a browser extension or standalone program to automatically enter giveaways without user input.

You would basically leave it running on the background and it would enter giveaways for you, which is explicitly against the rules.

Grab many copies of freebies, as example Hitman, and sell, trade or give it away at steamgifts (mostly all 3). Same for people that use 5 HB accounts to farm T1 bundles or in the past people that used 5 accounts at chrono.gg.
They don't do it because they are generous, they do it because they have a bad character, are greedy and selfish and use it for their advantage.
Sure a part are cheap stuff that don't bring much (besides the +1 and stats pushing and maybe demanded group GA's are done) but i know people that grabbed from the Hitman Freebie 10 copies and sold them at the begin for $12, then $10, then for $4 and traded them against other games they wanted.
Only at the point that each one known that it is a freebie weren't they successful to trade/sell more copies and gave the rest at steamgifts (and only because the keys had a experiring date if i remember me correct).

I know someone that used, at least, 21 Accounts to farm the daily kinguin freebies. He got 21 wins at one day where the servers were down all the time after one or two seconds were the daily freebies gone. He used Bots for it and hadn't shame and don't feeled guilty. He is a respected sg user, sorry can't say his name here, but be sure i banned that guy at all places where i have the power to do it because he and his friends (partly sg users with 20+ of freebie claiming accounts -it's disgusting-) are responsible for the destroying of the kinguin freebies, the chrono.gg coins/freebies, the indiegala daily freebies and so on.
[The one from the hitman example is perma suspended at sg for multiaccounting, the other two are german, high level, sg users]

One of that friends talked with me after he realized that he is at my BL and after i said him why, it came something like "he take so much because he wants to help his friends to get the game because they would not get it a other way and he don't have a advantage".
I listed him then his sg level raising, that he gets WL for beeing so "generous" (sure if i don't need to spend one cent for my GA's i can put a lot at the site... how generous puke), that he fullfill monthly/demanded group GA's without spending one cent, that he sell and trade a part of the games he collect/steal, besides the damage he do for companies, other people that want to have a key from freebies and so on.

And the 21 accounts+ guy got blacklisted from someone else (that have at s a very well known thread and hate cheaters -i don't say names-) here at sg and talked with him about the reason. The other one explained him that he don't play his wins and games in general (no achievements and gameplay time), so he got blacklisted for that.
And at the talk have that "bad apple" used the SAM program to fake his achievements.
After he got questioned if he think the other one is dump and don't see that cheating + that it proof it is the right decision to blacklist him, he said something like "i wanted only to show how easy it can be faked".

And trust me to hit the BL button for such people is a pleasure and at the same time sad because it is impossible to make something about their cheating/multiaccounting stuff because they don't do it at sg (or at least don't get caught for it).

Oh and Autojoiners = a bot that enter all available GA's in the Points range that you set, so are able to connect all the time or in intervalls, you don't need to click anything, you can sleep, are in the school, work, look tv, whatever.

I write you tomorrow at discord the part i know but don't expect it before 18:00 because i have again a big cleaning day and don't stop for online stuff or i don't get my ass up, after it, for more cleaning ;o)

The sentences are confusing.

Did you wanted to question if i think it is fair to give (many) copies of Fanatical bundles away ?
If you mean the normal ones yes.
If you mean the $1 bundles that give 30 cv then with one or two copies yes.
But with 5 copies+, of this $1 cv exploiting bundles, and, nearly, nothing else made as Giveaways in all the time the user is at sg, then no.

One of the more common ways to get blacklisted is to ignore a gifter's request in their GA's. For example, a lot of people will ask not to be thanked for a GA unless you're the winner since that results in them getting a whole bunch of unwanted "new message received" notifications. They don't want to get swamped with "thank you" notifications that make it hard for them to find actual notifications related to conversations they may be having in forum threads.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is actually a good idea (to ask people not to thank unless they win), I always get drowned in those notifications lol

But yeah, the least you could do when you enter a giveaway is follow the creator's instructions.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Only if you read the description....
And from all test i had seen and my different own ones i can say that absolut max. 20%, of the ones that are later in the entries, read them.

Make a easy test with a public GA and post a second GA for the same game as clear link in the description.
You have there around 10-20% of the entries of the first GA.

I don't blacklist people.

If someone blacklist me he won't be able to win games from me and I won't be able to win form him and that is fine.
But with time people get more mature and some people clear their BL.

I have only 1 guy BL because he was using multiple accounts and despite him being banned on all 50 I think I still like to keep all his accounts on my BL.

I have seen that it is also easy to be BL if you agree with someone many times but you disagree about something 1 time. I think some people take different opinions as a personal attack.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Honest question, how did you discover he was using multiple accounts? I don't think I ever faced that problem before, but it would be nice to know how to avoid it if the time comes.

I had someone come talk to me in private about that. BLing someone because they disagree with you is just straight up bonkers. Like, people are allowed to think differently lol

It was a team effort about 7 months ago. Also he used a bot that made all his Steam accounts have the same games and the same playtime in these games. Also all accounts did had numbers at the end of username and he used his own accounts to enter his GAs from his other accounts.

I think it is much better to add people to WL and do some WL GAs than to add anyone to BL :P

Yes, thats the case at sg.

"But with time people get more mature and some people clear their BL."

It have nothing to do with "mature" or "not mature" to have a BL or don't have one.
All that i know, that hunt users with sgtools red marks, so don't activate wins and sell/trade them in the end, or share which ones don't know the word thanks after winning a game etc., are end 20 till 50, all of them stand with both legs in their lifes.
I would not call them immature because they want to have a thanks after they spend money and invested time to gift someone something.

  1. For making racist, homophobic or misogynistic remarks. I have zero tolerance for that on a gaming forum.
  2. Those who make giveaways exclusively for small groups or whitelist-only, while entering the public giveaways of others.
  3. Calling someone else a "leech", and particularly those who do so while they have themselves won more than they've given.
  4. People who insult others for using their blacklist as they see fit. I find it amusing they're usually the most easily triggered.
  5. General douche-bag behavior.
  6. (added) People who say they don't blacklist to appear "nice", but only make group/whitelist giveaways anyway.

I blacklist rule breakers (though newbies who're just not familiar with rules well enough yet are not blacklist material, of course), really rude people, bigots and vocal Putin/Trump supporters. I also may or may not occasionally blacklist for giving away hentai (I don't remember for sure if I've actually done it, but I'm often tempted when I see a long list of nasty stuff).

Don't worry about it. I only blacklist people for being abusive towards others, thus only have a handful of people on it, but some people blacklist for anything and everything - my first train earned me 2 blacklists for no reason that I could think of.

I got ESGST, enabled the option to hide the blacklist counter entirely, and never looked back. Why have a negative thing you can't do anything about on your profile?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Alright, since you asked, in no particular order;
[a] Self-confessed VAC cheaters that say they don't think much of cheating and that they'd do it again.
Think I got 1 or 2 of this type of people on my blacklist.
[b] Mass free giveaway leechers that use it to expand and inflate their CV, I call them "CV cheaters".
People who leech multiple copies of games in giveaways and then quickly make giveaways for those games in hope of escaping the CV reduction or free status of the games. Just yesterday I looked into someone I have had blacklisted for a while (2 years?) for this and he still had $100+ of real CV for giving away these types of games before SG turned more strict regarding this rule, and thus he had to remain on my blacklist. The main part of my blacklist is these people, maybe 50%.
[c] Generally being a bad person; this includes being anti-LGBT+, anti-semitic/anti-muslim/etc, racism, or generally asshatty behavior.
Yenni's threads were/are especially good to notice this type of person. I think they amount to about 35% of my blacklist. Also, usernames or avatars can give this away.
[d] Breaking SG rules and being suspended can earn you a blacklist if I catch you and I think the infringement was worthy.
Basically it's simplified to (1) you break the rule, (2) you get called out for it, (3) you throw a tantrum, (4) I blacklist. If you don't throw a tantrum I usually let it slide. Also, people cheating SGTools or puzzles fall into this category (as well as [c], and a bit of [a] too, I guess).

Note: My current blacklist contains 128 people.

As a rule, I don't blacklist people for political opinions. However, if they have been particularly hateful or inciting drama, I might consider it.

I have a small handful of people on my blacklist and it's for breaking site rules (like one guy deliberately making GAs for higher CV and giving games with similar names to the winner), or abusing groups. Or... on one or two occasions, I've come across people who blacklisted me. I return the favour there.

Winners who don't say thank you, especially for unbundled games, this always happens in public GAs which has turned me off even more from doing those....and tangentially, I recently started creating GAs without putting the keys in right away, so in 2 instances, I mistakenly clicked "sent" but, as you can guess, nothing happens on the winner's end as there is no key saved, days pass, I wonder why the winner doesn't mark received only for me to find belatedly that I made the aforementioned mistake, I leave a message to them on SG to apologize for the mistake and to notify them the key is there now, they mark received without ever saying anything, neither before to tell me of the issue or after...it's just...disheartening.

Or when I see someone win 600 but gave away 6 games, as an example.

well, the reason they do not tell you about it maybe is beacue you have 7 days to deliver. I would contact you at about day 6 to ask you like: hey, what's up, I still do not have my game etc...but yea, not saying thank you after the message is shitty. I blacklist people like that as well... and when they are trying to explot some game that is currently being given away for free... and when their ratio is so bad it looks like a negative number.

But I have noticed that since I started shitting on HB with my threads I made recently I was blacklisted by a bunch of people

Well, as others have said, people get blacklisted for just breathing on SG ^^

But now that you mention it, I did read on SG about people who exploit free games and give multiple copies of the same freebie in one account, I would blacklist those aswell, special hate multiplier when I didn't even have a chance to snatch one (like the last DBD dlc) and see ppl giving a few copies under the same account or -trade- near 10+ copies of it.

About my GAs, I do not blame them for a mistake I made, though I would have preferred and fixed the issue much sooner if the person had notified me, but not bothering to say thank you after all that...and this happens exclusively in public GAs, I find the group GAs, no matter if they are big or small groups, ppl take the time to at least reply back or say thank you.

I understand that feelings very well.
Look at the #steamgifts channel in my discord ;o) ... today found someone a user with 37 not activated wins....

From my 12 GA winners at my cakeday, 7 sgtools protected invite only, 3 WL and 2 jigidi puzzle ones, did 5 don't known a thank you after the win (the stats of the most of them were ok).
I earned 9 WL but 17 BL because of the thread or because a few realised they are at my BL and don't liked that

To be honest it make me sad when 5 of 12 winners don't have the least basic manners and aren't able to say thank you.

On top it lower my motivation to make public Ga's or to do all the work for such a cake day thread. It needed 2h for me to set all up, and it is difficult to focus with such a result only at the good people and the good experiences at steamgifts.

Oh and sadly not only at public GA's don't know people a thank you.
I had one from my WL too and after checking his stats more closer i seen that he won ~300 GA's more as he had written comments......
So the "missing thanks at my GA" weren't the only one.

I kicked that one from my WL but not BL him
