I don't know why they banned my account.
I didn't register multiple accounts or anything considered illegal. I registered not very long ago and got two free games since my registration. Last week I bought a steamworks game (Worms Reloaded) from them with a great discount applied (because it's on sale) and traded-in the two free games to reduce the total price. The purchase was successful and game has been activated on my steam account without problem. But today I've found that my GMG account has been banned for no reason.

Of course I've already contacted their support and am now waiting for their response.

But actually I don't really care about my GMG account since they banned account for no reason, I just care about my steam account, will it be affected because of my Worms Reloaded was purchased from a banned GMG account? Is it possible that GMG can/will do something that affects (for example revoke) my already activated Worms Reloaded and bring problems to my steam account (since the game was purchased from them, and using their traded-in system to reduce the price and if they think traded-in my game was a fraud to them...).

What do you think?

When I was about to submit this post, I've received their response. The response was short:
"We have closed your account because you have fraudulently created multiple accounts and obtained games by deception."

So they think I have created multiple accounts to obtain the two free games in one account to buy a game from the only one account.

They have reactivated my account. Of course they were not pleased to do it. Read my post here.

Nope. It's impossible. I only sign in GMG at home from the same computer.

Thanks. Good to hear that.
What about my Worms Reloaded? Although it's staying in my steam library so far.

It's probably fine. It's easy for Steam to revoke games, but a third-party seller would have to coordinate with Steam to a) convince them that it was illegitimate and should be revoked, and b) identify the account the game was used on to make sure they actually revoke the right one. Even if they could do it it's probably not worth the effort, except in cases of obvious and/or massive fraud.

Thanks.
I don't want to have any trouble on the summer sale to miss a good deal. Now I can get my good mood back to wait for the sale.

And I've also decided I will never buy games from GMG anymore.

First of all, GMG will require a shit ton of evidence before Steam will even want to touch your account.

And like you said, they lack constructive proof.

And lastly, I don't think either party will want to bother with one user and one account and one cheap game even if you did commit fraudulent activities. It's just not worth anyone's time and effort. Unless it is like the Dead Island heist of 2011 where thousands of keys were leaked and thousands of accounts are affected.

So you can put your mind at ease.

Same happend to me. They said i had muliple accounts when i didn't and i made sure no one in my house registered an account on there. What an absolutely awful website.

So how did they handle your case at last?

They didn't. I gave them the stuff they needed and i never got a response and when i tried to log in it is still inactive. Good thing i never actually spent any money on there or i'd still be trying to get my account back.

Best thing to do is actually call CS. There should be a number at the bottom of their homepage to call.

alot of people were being banned for gaming the system and turning in free games for full credit the moment they were able to trade the free games in. the free games weren't supposed to be able to be turned in for credit, but they are having problems differentiating those who paid money and those who didn't.

"the free games weren't supposed to be able to be turned in for credit"
To be fair, that's their mistake though, and they shouldn't be taking it out on the customers.

But they are and there's nothing people can do about it. They took advantage of something that wasn't working as intended and got banned. Seems fair enough.

I never traded in any of my games. I'm not that dumb.

Turning in free games for credit and you wonder why you were banned?

it's a FEATURE of GMG, so please shut up and do some research. They did this with Disciples II.

Its a feature for games that YOU BOUGHT not that they gave you for free.
DO you have any moral compass at all? How can you not see anything wrong with that?

Then why do they let you trade-in the game when you checkout? Another scam?

Beacuse glitches, bugs and exploits don't exist amirite

A glitch that was ALWAYS this way and they did not say anything about it?lol.

No. More like an exploit to the feature. If you got something for free you shouldn't be allowed to turn it in for credit. He is not the only one who got banned. You can argue all you want, but it won't change that.

Where do they say that? Its not a exploit, its simply what it always was.

Notwithstanding any other provision of these terms and conditions you agree and undertake not to:

  • use or process the Service or any part of it unfairly or for any illegal or immoral purpose;

Basically in their ToS.

Also, in case that's not enough for you:
Without limiting to any other rights it may have GMGL may remove, restrict, cancel or suspend access to and use of the Service and any part of it, if it considers (in its sole discretion) that you have breached of any of these terms and conditions or if it is reasonable to do so.

They can ban you if they consider it reasonable, and there's nothing you can do about it because you have agreed to those terms.

But they actively encouraged trading in the free games on the site and on their facebook page, this is how it's always been. Thousands of others, including me, did not get banned.

But some others, including OP did. They don't need to provide a justification for the ban. Even if that was not the reason, I couldn't think of any reason why it would be ok for people to trade in stuff they got for free in exchange for credit.

Moral compass? Wut? Its a FEATURE, and they dont say ANYWHERE that you are not allowed to do that.

Wrong, they even announced that the game could be traded-in later for those who weren't interested. It's not a glitch, it's not a "moral issue". They recommended doing it, search their blog and you'll find what I mean.

Yup, if it was glitch, it would be wrong, but they mentioned the possibility beforehand...

Nope, it's an advertised feature of some free games. Do you remember the Disciples II giveaway? The promotion said something like "play Disciples II for free and trade it in for $3 after X days". They were presumably giving some starting credit to get people using the trade-in feature that's supposed to be main draw of the site.

Pray tell, how can it be fraud or immoral if they actually ALLOW it?

And speaking of moral compass, giving away keys from indie bundles here to boost your points is a clear cut violation of Steamgifts morals. Or rather rules. As such, I feel I should report you.

Well, apparently they don't allow it since OP got himself banned, and not for the reason support told him since he didn't create multiple accounts. Also, before calling him out you might want to read the rules.
