Hi and welcome to our Steam Group Recruitment,

Who is TalePlay:

I formally created this Steam Group with the intent to deliver on short burst reviews for Steam that are linked to my personal account and offer a much more detailed overview of the games I play. I still continue to do that time to time, and as well create YouTube videos with reviews, game-related topics, discussions, and game listings that I think you would enjoy watching.

Today, I have decided to open up our Steam Group Recruitment for Giveaways. These giveaways will contain games that are rated on the Positive side of the spectrum, from AAA games to AA and Indies. I am doing this kind of Steam Giveaway(s) and Discord Giveaways once a month, starting at the beginning of the month, and provide you with one of the best games you've wanted to get your hands on or want to play. Some of the games may contain a whole collection and some will be stand-alone.

What I want from those who wish to participate is to PLAY OUR GAMES. I think it's important that you understand that even if these games are giveaways, somebody out there, worked hard to get the money and invest it in the prize, so we value that you play the games you win from us or other members in the upcoming 3 Months since receiving the game.

If you want to know more about me feel free to reach out, but make sure you write a comment before you add us. I may or may not accept, so I appreciate your patience and understanding.

Leader: Vasharal so, if you want to reach out you can do so via Steam.

How to Join:

  1. First Apply on our Steam Group and write us a comment that you applied in this thread.

  2. Have an account on Steam Hunters for accurate achievement stats. Completionist.me is also acceptable.

  3. [Optional] Create, if you haven't, and share your BLAEO account in the comments.
ā• BLAEO helps us easily check your won games through without going through the hassle to check through Steam or other tools that are more likely slower and it's neatly organized. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE PART IN ANY CHALLENGES.

  4. If you partake in the giveaway and win our giveaway, we want you to play that particular game in the next 3 months. You don't have to complete it, but we'd be happy if you'd at least attempt to beat the main campaign. If it doesn't have a campaign or story, play a significant amount of time to kinda cover 25-50% of the Achievements. If some games don't have achievements, screenshots are required for rolling credits.

Group Rules:

  • At least Level 2 on SteamGifts.
  • If you're new to SteamGifts, you need to be a member for at least 3 months.
  • Multiple or un-redeemed wins within the last year - are forbidden.
  • Your overall Reputation should be clean on SteamRep. If you've had a VAC ban older than 1 year, and explain why you got it, we might make an exception.
  • You have to have your Steam privacy settings for your profile and games as Public (example);
  • Check our Steam Group Announcement for further details and announcements. Rules and Information there may be different, but currently, this thread is the most up-to-date that you should follow. Future updates will be made there too to reflect the group.
  • You have to play your giveaway within 3 months' time - there are exceptions if you're unable to play, but you have to reach out to the person in that 3 months time-frame, not when the 3 months are over;
  • If the winner does not fully commit to playing according to the requirements established by the gifter—such as beating the story or achieving more than 50% of the achievements—and fails to inform the gifter or thank them upon winning, they will receive a warning. A second warning will result in removal without further notice.
  • If you are found cheating your playtime or achievements, or if you are found not playing the game at all, you will be removed immediately. To report any unlawful behavior, please visit our Report section or contact me via Steam or Discord.

Giveaway Rules:

Giving giveaways using our group is NOT REQUIRED. It's just our way to give out to people who wish to support us on our YouTube journey. But, if you wish to take part in the group and give giveaways, please remember that you have the follow the following rule:

  • No games should be given that are rated as Mixed or Below.
We want each winner to have their hands on games that are highly rated on Steam.

As a reference you need to keep in mind some of these metrics:

  1. 10,000+ reviews on Steam and 70%+ Steam rating
  2. 1,000+ reviews on Steam and 80%+ Steam rating
  3. 100+ reviews on Steam and 90%+ Steam rating
  • The giveaway should not be region-locked.
  • When creating a giveaway it is necessary to include a small group rule reminder in your giveaway, something like:
"This is a TalePlay giveaway, by joining you commit to playing this game within three months if you win it."
  • You can do giveaways alongside other groups with similar rules to ours, such as Playing Appreciated, Playing Matters, and other private groups that require members to play the games they win. However, doing giveaways alongside public groups is no longer permitted. This change is to ensure that members participating in TalePlay and other similar groups actually play their wins. Please note that these rules apply to members who belong to multiple groups, and for any giveaways open to public groups, you must ensure that the winners are aware of TalePlay's rules. For winners who are not part of this group, the rules do not apply.
  • Please contact Vasharal if you encounter any issue with another member not playing a game or breaking any of the other rules.

Re-Applications

If you left the group for various reasons but didn't have any previous infringes you're free to re-apply to the group again as long as you played your wins. Please let us know the reason of your leave. We'd be more than happy to have you back.

If you face removal from the group due to misconduct or failure to beat or sufficiently play your won game, you may request a second chance through re-application. Members caught cheating—such as idling games (for games with no achievements) or using programs to unlock achievements—will not be permitted a second application under any circumstances. This option is available only if you believe the removal was unjust—such as due to a misunderstanding, unforeseen personal circumstances, or lack of communication—and you failed to address the issue within the 3-month giveaway timeframe. You only get 1 chance to correct your mistake and be part of the community. There's no third or more chances. It allows members to demonstrate accountability and genuine interest in the group’s values. To reapply, follow one of the options below:

Option A

  1. Play and beat the unplayed game(s) you won, along with another game from your wins that is similar in length. If you have multiple unplayed games, you must play all of them plus an additional game from your wins that has an average length similar to the unplayed games.
For example, if your unplayed games are 10 hours, 15 hours, and 5 hours long, the total is 30 hours, which gives an average of 10 hours per game (30 Ć· 3 = 10).
  2. You must beat the game(s) within a set timeframe (e.g., 1-3 months depending on the length of the game) from the time of your re-application to demonstrate accountability.
  3. If you didn’t play your won game because you didn’t like it but failed to inform the gifter, you may choose two other games from your wins, play them, and beat them instead. They have to be equally in length to the game you didn't play.
It’s understandable to dislike a game every once in a while, but if you’re overly picky and your constant reasoning for not playing games is that you don’t like them, they’re too hard, or some other excuse, then I’m sorry, but this isn’t the group for you.

Option B

  1. Contribute by hosting a giveaway for the game you have not played. In case you have 2 or 3 games unplayed, you can mix and match by playing 2 and giving a giveaway for the 3rd.
  2. The giveaway must run for at least 3 days, during which you are not allowed to participate in other giveaways.

Final Notes:

Requesting to join without leaving a comment below will result in an automatic rejection after a week or more. Please don't forget to do this because oftentimes we receive a request and never hear from the applicant at all on Steamgifts. I find it difficult to reach out to individuals who don't respect the rules as their profile is very restrictive and can't write back to them. If you don't hear from us in a week time after you applied know that's the case.

Do know that by using BLAEO helps us easily go through the win and see your progress, but if that's something you're not happy using, we'll be using this script or completionist.me to monitor and track your progress with the game. We will not nudge you or force you to play the game, but do know that you may lose access to the group if you are reported or found abusing people's kindness.

To join BLAEO you need to apply here. Your application may take a while to process, but once you've got your hands on your account all you have to do is share your profile, that way it's easier for us to just monitor your progress with the game.

If we missed anything or may require some updates, we will be updating this discussion.

If you wish to check Status updates for your game, removal from the group or something similar, visit our Steam Group Giveaway Status Discussion section to learn more.

Among other Play your Wins groups we'd like to be able to create a deeper relationship between the gifters and the receivers, so we'd like you to be transparent about the things you liked about the game. You can share your views about the story, because I personally really enjoy a good game that has an amazing story. Some games I might have played them myself, and I can freely talk about them without the fear of spoilers, so I'd like people who do win the games to be opened for discussion about them. Games are fun and should be experienced at a much deeper level than just finishing a game to 100% or be forced to complete every side-quest or worst, playing it for a few minutes and never picking it up again.

We want that you keep in mind this aspect while being part of TalePlay. We know that sometimes we get over-saturated by the sheer amount of games we can win or we can buy, to the point we build up a backlog. Let's make gaming and receiving games fun again!

Thank you for considering joining us and we're looking forward to seeing you partake in our giveaways as soon as we get started.

If you wish to check the games we're giving away you can check our Steamgifts Group Giveaway.

Hi Vash! May I ask why I've been kicked from the group without prior notice? I certainly haven't intentionally broken any rules (e.g. cheating) so I assume it's because I haven't played my win(s) from the group, but I can't recall or find them from my list of wins.

Have a nice weekend! :)

Thank you for pointing it out to me, lext! That was very helpful. <3

I distinctly remember having installed the game on my steam deck after winning it, but uninstalling it days later to make room for other games. I remember (mistakenly) believing at that time that this was a win from completing a PAGYWOSG event (i.e. no playing requirement).

Hi there Xu,

I got a report that you didn't play Euro Truck Simulator 2 despite being a TalePlay only giveaway. The report was made on 12 Sep, 2024, so this is a 1 year old giveaway you partook in and you haven't been reported/removed after the 3 months period. Therefore, I took the necessary measures to kick you out of the group. I understand this might be upsetting, but if you consider playing the game and in this case, completing ~50% of the game at least plus choose another game of your Steamgifts wins (not TalePlay) that takes approx 50 hours to beat the story (based on HLTB the story, if it has any, is approx 50 hours long), I can permit you to re-enter the group.

Thank you for understanding and reaching out!

I think the other option is to giveaway a copy of the game to the group, if that's still available? https://steamcommunity.com/groups/taleplay/discussions/0/595137109171451638/

Hi Vash, thank you for the time and patience! The rules are clear and you made the decision accordingly, and that's perfectly reasonable and understandable. (If anything, I was kicked out 8 months too late haha.)

In that case, of course I would love to apply to join TalePlay again. My other pick is Jagged Alliance 3. (Relevant links: SG winner page, Playtime 0h, HLTB main 48h). I would like to request a 3-month deadline if possible, since beating two 50h games in a month would be too much for me.

I enjoyed XCOM 2 a lot and JA3 looks fun! It also happens to be a fitting choice since I first heard about the game on your YouTube channel :D And I have loads of podcast episodes and audiobooks ready for ETS2. I’m sure I’ll have a great time playing both!

Hi Vash, I believe I have fulfilled the requirements so I'm applying to rejoin TalePlay :)

  • ETS2 achievements progress: 18/35 (note: I don't have any DLCs yet, and the base game only has 35 achievements.)
  • JA3 beaten: Bullet Proof achievement

My main thoughts on JA3:

  • The tactical layer has much more micromanaging compared to XCOM. Most notably, you can switch between stances as well as spend more Action Points to increase your aim level multiple times for a higher chance to hit. I love making tactical decisions, so I prefer JA3 in this aspect.
  • JA3's strategy layer is kind of a 4X-lite, where you take over enemy outposts and raise militia in key sectors to defend them while your squad is away. I'm not a huge fan of either game's strategy layer, and now that I think about it, this is part of the reason I love SteamWorld Heist so muich. I don't want to worry about big-picture stuff, just give me more on-the-ground decisions to make! :)
  • For weapons, JA3 is the winner in my book. There are so many weapon choices and weapon-modding possibilities and I've always enjoyed customizing an awesome kit for my characters.
  • JA3 uses pre-made maps rather than procedurally generated ones. They look awesome and are fun to play in, but my problem with maps is the lack of the fog of war. You start each mission having a clear view of the structure of the entire map, and I feel like this makes the fights significantly less dangerous and less fun.
  • I vastly prefer XCOM in terms of enemy variety. I guess it's an unavoidable side effect of JA3's relatively realistic setting: basically all your enemies are military dudes wielding a firearm.
  • JA3's enemy AI can be miserably incompetent. Sometimes I could just camp at a chokepoint and spam overwatch (since the missions never have timers), and the enemies will come rushing in. Here's an especially terrible example, from one of the final "boss" battles no less. Just look at the pile of enemy corpses in my blue overwatch cones lol.

I enjoyed every moment of my 50h+ campaign. There is a decent chunk of content that I didn't get to experience, and there's great first-party modding support too, but honestly it's unlikely for me to want to replay this game any time soon. XCOM 2 will still be my go-to game when I want some turn-based tactics action.

Yes, this seems to be good.

I love the detailed explanation of JA3. I honestly appreciate that because I have never touched the series, and seeing a nice comparison is really nice.

Battlefield V is also another one. You will take Option A of re-entering the group? If so, then you'll be required to play the 3 games + 1 from your wins that is the total average of your wins.

Mythargia - 2.4 hours to beat
Battlefield V - 6.2 hours to beat
Tormented Souls - 9.3 hours to beat

The overall average time is 5.9 hours. So anything between 5+ hours campaign length is good enough as a game. It's all up to you wich one you will go with. :)

Thanks, least I could do honestly!
They were all decent, nothing too spectacular, think I enjoyed Tales & Tactics the most! Battlefield V Stories were interesting as well!
Definitely did not enjoy Tormented Souls, maybe I wouldn't really enjoy Resident Evil franchise.
Wigmund was a nice indie game by 2 people where controls were slightly janky but definitely understandable.
Sir Whoopass was decent at the start but the jokes-making narrator just disappeared after the 1st hour or so, felt too grindy to me.
Mythargia was decent at best, story is pretty simple and nothing impressive.

Hi, could I join the group?
https://steamhunters.com/id/some_random_number
https://www.backlog-assassins.net/lists/edjm3ed
I didn't make much progress yet with clearing my wins, but this group only requires one to play the group wins, not wins from public GAs or other groups, right? I noticed that unlike most applicants here, I'm "Not listed on the leaderboards" on steamhunters, so I guess I'm kinda banned there. Is it relevant for the rule regarding cheating here or does that rule only apply to the games won within the group? Sorry if some of these questions were already asked, I didn't see them in group FAQ and I didn't check all the pages in this thread.

Yes, this is related to what you win via TalePlay.

I noticed that unlike most applicants here, I'm "Not listed on the leaderboards" on steamhunters, so I guess I'm kinda banned there. Is it relevant for the rule regarding cheating here or does that rule only apply to the games won within the group?

Have you used cheats aka SAM in the past? If so, you can correct that by reaching to the admins on their Discord. They are gonna indicate what games you need to remove the cheated achievements and you'll be placed on the leaderboard. But, to answer the question, based on what I see, you got 1 achievement that doesn't look right. It's this one. For this one I really don't see much of an issue really.

If you continue to remain transparent, play the game, aka beat the story at least, everything should be fine. I will not pressure you to complete games you don't like, but anything unusual I or other gifters will see will flag you as a cheater, so I'll not only remove you but not permit you re-entry. I would rather be told the game is something you don't like than be lied with cheating. That being said, I don't think that's much of a problem.

All in all, I would permit you entry in TalePlay, but I can't see your application. I hope that answers your question. 😃

Yeah, I didn't click "Request to Join" since I weren't sure if I was eligible. Yeah, I used SAM in the past, for example to get the https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Black_Rose, but since that game is no longer on steam, I'm not sure if the achievement can be re-locked. As for the Abalyte achievement, I did unlock it with SAM and later re-locked it with steam console, but I'm not sure how you found out, as it is shown as locked on the page you linked. As for contacting admins on Discord, I feel like I'd rather not do that, as I imagine it would be kinda humiliating.

Thanks for the permission to join.

Trust me, I have not been a saint in the past either. I set my pride aside and corrected my own mistake. I have used SAM back in 2020. I didn't know what I was doing and I used it on games I beaten many many years ago, as I bought them, since I didn't want to re-play them after I did back when I was much younger as a pirate. That kicked me out of the leaderboard too. Fast forward to 2023 and I realized that I rather go over my pride and ask to help me correct my mistake.

I am right now working my bottom to fix my Average Percentage Completion and playing the games I used SAM on. It's the price we pay for messing with such tools.

I have learned that it's okay to make mistakes sometimes, but if you're caught, admit it. Don't just lie about it and expect to be approved.

You have less achievements unlocked. I have had many more than you. But I am no longer that guy. I learn, I change and I wanna do better.

I don't know how to say this without sounding ungrateful or like I'm trying to argue, but I don't share your opinion on what a "mistake" is. Even if I first used SAM in 2013, I can't say "I didn't know what I was doing" and honestly mean it. And the use case you mention, to unlock achievements from games you already beaten outside of Steam, sounds pretty legitimate to me.
But don't worry, I'll respect the group rules.

By I don't know what I was doing, I mean, I didn't know how this would look on my reputation and profile. I found out how important that is as not all websites do penalize you on the matter. Steam Hunters and AStats are the two. I was well aware what SAM does, just didn't know that I'll mess up my Avg. Completion Rate by doing moves like that.

Now, when it comes to legitimate, I don't honestly know how it sits with some completionists, this is why I rolled back that move so even if I am affected by the completion rate, I can fix it. The worst is when you can't.

So, that's what I mean by mistake. It's no excuse that was intentional, but if I knew what it would lead to, I would have not do it in the first place.

I like to use the experience as a good way to better be aware if others who did it and not be a hypocrite and allow people to correct their mistake if they are willing to. They can do it by being honest with themselves moving forward.

Have you read the rules of the group? I get a lot of applications and Idk if they are from people that want to join randomly or just never bother to read the rules.

thanks so much!

I was worried for the comeback of the series after such a time, like many fans, and the dissatisfaction of general opinion added to that stress. but I ended up loving it, easily. there is always some room for criticism and I'm still not far in the game, but I'm positively overwhelmed with how packed with content it is and how they continue the story left off in the previous game. the gameplay is fun and engaging to me (fixed the grind from Inquisition), the graphics and animations are so smooth and pretty, and it's just such a joy to be back in this world and see more of it.
just my two cents as one of those who play the series from the beginning.

have a good day!

Yeah, because I hear a lot of negative aspects on the writing side. I loved Dragon Age Origins. Was a big fan of that particular one. I played Dragon Age 2 and I stopped there as my PC couldn't handle Inquisition. I am thinking to get into Inquisition at some point, but I feel I just want to start the series again to re-connect with Alistar and other characters I might have forgotten from the prequels of Inquisition.

I too hear a lot of complaints about the writing, but I haven't experienced much to back it up (yet?). I fact-check my lore and while they enhance and broaden it in Veilguard, there's not really any logical blunders to speak about so far, and certainly not as much as I'd expect from the community outrage. Perhaps it lies in the dialogue (especially the optional gender identity dialogue). Again, don't know yet, but I doubt it will turn that bad if right now I'm enjoying it a lot (wouldn't want to be surprised here), and I do think they made some smart decisions as well.

A replay of the series could get you back close to some potential returning characters, yes, that would be nice (and honestly Alistair and Morrigan duo in Origins is something I'll never get bored of). I like playing games close to each other as well to not lose the continuity built up in my mind. but don't worry if you change your mind, knowing what you know from DAO and DA2 will be enough to hop onto Inquisition. also, quick side note, Inquisition is absolutely mandatory for Veilguard plot-wise, that is if you wish to avoid critical spoilers. hope you have lots of fun once you get to them!

Thank you! I will most certainly play Inquisition before I consider Veilguard.
