It's sad seeing all this comments saying that the combat system is weird or bad, it's just different, i think the combat system in The Witcher was easiest than in The Witcher 2, people doesn't even tried to figure out how to play the game, both games are great but i recommend start the game in easy mode if you are not familiar with games like this

30 hours on The witcher and i still hate the combat system. it's not hard, is just not fun.
it's not an diablo-esque thing, it's not a 3rd person slasher, it's not a strategy focused RPG (let's say, dragon age like); it's a weird combination of every RPG system. it's a clusterfuck.
don't get me wrong, everything about the game is awesome... except the combat system

I like both Witcher games, but combat system in 1 is bad exactly because it's easy. It's dull, it plays like some kind of rhythm game, and I can think of only three fights that were any challenge, earliest of them being non-issue if you invested in the Aard sign. Everything gets even easier if you max out the Igni sign. Combat in 2 wasn't perfect, but it was a great improvement.

Both are very solid RPG, and they will be worth playing even after 10 years. actually I prefer 1, which has good combat and I liked it more than in W2, because it was more original and more suitable for witcher style, as in second game you was just rolling all the time, which is not like Witchers would fight (I red books many times). At least W3 is going to improve the combat.

strange question, of course worth it, W1 is already classic and even better than W2, which is just good

Witcher 1 in my opinion has a better storyline than Witcher 2 but Witcher 2 has better combat and of course graphics.
You can of course skip W1 and go directly to W2 but i think you'll want to try W1 first anyway. The experience might not be for everyone since the game has aged and the gameplay itself is kind of old, but still quite enjoyable.

Books have best storyline, than W1. W2 is too short.
Still both games are great.

100% Worth it! For this price is no brainer. The combat will be kind of strange at first, but you will get used to it. :D Just don't do what i did :D Play half the game, stop and then come back 2 months later XD. I had no idea how to fight at all XD.

First game has a good story that keeps you addicted in the game, the combat sucks though. Don't expect much from the second game, the gameplay is good, the combat has flaws but is much... much better than the first however witcher 2 is too short imo, it has 2 ways to end the game(choices and stuff so yeh, actions have consequences and shit, its done brilliantly). Its longer than most AAA games but if you compare it to an rpg like skyrim in terms of addiction, less replay ability in the game...witcher 3 looks like it'll even surpass skyrim level however time will tell(in terms of fun)...every witcher beats es in terms of narrative(storyline)

The Witcher 2 is much better than Skyrim. I couldn't play Skyrim more than 1h, it's an overhyped, overall bad game

The Witchers will always be worth it.

As in engine Witcher 2 is superior ti Witcher 1, but both have good story and nice characters and i for one loved the combat, for me the combat in first was better then in second.

The Witcher 3 looks promising and till now CD Projekt RED didn't disappoint.
