it looks like it was 2000 hours from 2014 which would be about 5-6 hours per day.
Probably too much but it wouldn't kill anyone.
5-6 hours a day is too much when we're talking about doing something productive. For gaming that's shamefully low.

What a crazy world we live in then where 5-6 hours a day is 'shamefully low'. You must be speaking of people who are essentially leeching off of whomever is supporting them. That's enough hours for a full time job assuming it were 7 days a week.

As a disabled person there's only so much else you can do in a day. Thankfully gaming can fill up the gaps.

Oh I'm sure, I just find it neat when I can add something relevant that might otherwise seem obscure. A big part of the gamer crowd also consists of those living with their parents, by age or whatever other reason. I'm honestly surprised that a prepubescent CoD player hasn't come running through to boast about their playtime yet.
Technology is a bit like alcohol. It is the cause of and solution to many of life's problems. Can't live with it, can't live without it, and we've only ourselves to blame. At least we made it fun~

They going to have a 'Gamer lives matter' protest somewhere?
Comment has been collapsed.
Black Lives Matter is a protest against racism. It's a protest to stop the deaths of innocent black people that keep getting killed by police for no good reason.
This kid on the other hand, basically killed himself. Why would anyone make a protest about that?

I don't know what kind of bubble you're living in, but there have been a lot of stories lately of unarmed people getting killed for nothing.
Take a look at this for some examples There are many more cases.

Most all of the big events in the US... Ferguson, Baltimore, ETC were lowlife crooks that were caught doing bad shit, then resisted arrest, and ended up dead.
Hell, that guy that died in Baltimore had a rap sheet like 3 pages long. Maybe if people want to live, or want their culture to move up in the world, they should start fostering a different atmosphere instead of turning society into a cesspool and expecting everyone else to be ok with it.. Most of the major US metro areas are becoming festering boils on society. Detroit, St Louis, Chicago, Baltimore. I just moved away from Baltimore 2.5 years ago, and I can personally tell you it is one of the most dangerous cities on the planet. My ex wife got knifed on the lightrail (aboveground subway system) and one of my good friends was jumped outside the business he owns by a group of crackheads needing a fix. These are the types of people that are getting killed that all the protests are about... its not because of people doing the right things!
Most of the publicity and outcry you see is Al Sharpton and his cronies race baiting. "OMG its so unfair that a guy that just robbed a gas station got shot while resisting arrest!!!!" Yeah, give me a break. Most of these areas are long overdue for a culling.
Just to be clear, Unarmed means they might not have a gun, but criminals are still plenty dangerous.
One other note... Yes, there is sometimes innocents being killed, however like I said above the ones that are causing riots and major outcry are plenty justified.
PS... where is all the press about white / Hispanic / Asian people getting killed by these thugs every damned day??? Or even the news about black on black crime?? Its all about clever race baiting media in how its presented.

gweedo007 is right. America is fair, the police treat citizens with respect, and the only factor in a minority or poor white person being hurt or killed by police is their own criminal activity.
In other news, Obama is a Kenyan muslim socialist antichrist who hates the Constitution, white people, and the middle class.

Yes, and that guy who stole a loaf of bread totally deserved his 20 years in prison for it. He's a criminal after all! The law knows all! Honest pay, just reward, that's the way to please the Lord...
Nobody deserves to die. Nobody. No person is irredeemable. Even if someone DOES deserve to die, it is not the state's place to make it happen. Robbing a gas station is certainly not worthy of a death sentence, not even in the worst of constitutions.
Also "Oh yeah sure, some innocents died but WHO CARES we're also killing thieves so that makes up for it!". I'd much rather let thieves and innocents live than kill both. Just a personal taste.
I'd suggest you learn to be a little more empathetic and stop seeing the world in black and white(both figuratively and literally). There aren't "good, honest, christian people who will always follow the law and do good 100% no matter what happens" and "bad, evil liberal criminal scum who would molest their own children if Good White Men like us didn't stop them!". There are circumstances. There are degrees. The death sentence is bad enough. Killing an unarmed person without even giving them a fair trial? A person who might've been innocent? Yeah, that's not even up for debate. "Criminals are dangerous" - Here's a newsflash: Just because a guy stole something and is trying to escape doesn't make him a murderer.
The police get weapons to protect THE PEOPLE, not THEMSELVES. It is we, the people, who pay for every policeman's living through OUR taxes and I would like to think that we're not just giving them money to buy weapons to defend themselves and kill us with but rather that we're paying them to put their lives on the line to protect us.

After some imgur posts, I had the impression that politemen are brutal in US, but then someone posted a couple of gifs with how people act around the police... I don't say that there are not bad apples in police, but people are the problem, not policemen; also US' population is huge (= EU without France, Italy and Iberian peninsula).
Comment has been collapsed.
Trust me, the bad police don't need an excuse to act poorly, and a lot of the hatred you see people have toward police is due to the way they have been treated, or seen people treated. Don't let a couple GIFs influence you. Ask yourself why in many of these high profile cases the police again and again make initial statements or file reports that are factually questionable, if not outright false.

TYT is often reporting on police crimes and sometimes they show videos of it happening that were recorded by police cams or by civilians that were nearby.
Trust me MANY people get killed for nothing. I saw real videos where cops executed people that did nothing wrong and videos in which someone was guilty of certain crime but he raised his hands up only to get shot by cops anyway.

South Korea has some laws in place because of events like this.

Well, they say about 22 days of continuous playing. But the cause of death may be absolutely irrelevant to gaming.
So DON'T PANIC!
What I find amusing is that the news focus on "2000 hours".
I wonder how many hours an average person spend watching TV.

I get the feeling that you play LOL a lot, judging by 1st sentence.
If that's the case, then your ZED reference was 10/10 :)

So 9 hr/day tedious work shifts is OK, but 5-6hr leisure is dangerous. Okay, that's science for you.

this guy, and pretty much everyone who died after playing video/pc games for xxx+ hrs straight, pretty much died of loneliness. you must be a really poor and sad fuck to end like this. I am sorry for their souls.

It sounds to me like he got a clot (DVT) from sitting for too long with the leg injury. This can happen if you're not moving around for long periods of time, and if you already have a problematic leg, it's that much more important to move. It's not like he spent days straight playing the game and died of dehydration, like some of the cases I've heard about with the MMO stuff, but that's my best guess.
I think I would die after 1 hour of DOTA ... just saying.
Comment has been collapsed.
I've only heard of one guy who killed an in-game enemy alliance member at a meeting (his ign was dvp / Lineage 2 teon server was the game), but other than that, I've heard only happy ending stories resulting from MMOs: people getting married, people escaping from conflict zones with the help of someone they met online etc. I am not saying that MMOs are not bad if you play them too much, but why people spread only the bad stories? :(

Damn, it kinda reminds me of the one South Park episode for WoW. My question is did he win the last match or lose? At least he died while gaming and maybe shouting at his teammates.

In Germany just a few hundred meter of where I live last month someone died after he drank 3 liters of water in no more than 12 hours.
Another guy did after he ate bread ever day for a whole year.
And someone even died after he had consumed Oxygen on a regular basis.
Oh, and actually a few ten thousand people die every year while they were working.

Sorry can't find any source in English (so far).
But here official news in Russian.
The "fun" part they stress out that he played 2000 hours (Dota is mentioned elsewhere).
Guess they don't see many steam profiles.
And yes this
P.S.
Finally, the news in English
