"The game is "coming soon" to Xbox Game Pass, Rare, which is owned by Microsoft, said in its announcement tweet. A specific release date, however, was not announced.

During the September Nintendo Direct today, Nintendo confirmed that GoldenEye 64 is coming to the Switch via backwards compatibility for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack owners. There will be online play.

A new version of GoldenEye was supposed to come to Xbox 360 years ago, but it ran into licensing issues. The HD remaster later leaked, and now it's officially coming to Xbox and Switch.

A GoldenEye remake for the Wii was released in 2010, but it featured Daniel Craig standing in for Pierce Brosnan. A Reloaded edition for PS3 and Xbox 360 was released later.

2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series. The company behind the franchise teased that fans should "watch out for announcements, events, and new content across 2022.""

if it comes to Steam cool - if not like me a lot of people won't want a half baked Switch version

https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/13/23350975/nintendo-direct-switch-fire-emblem-legend-of-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom - says here that online play is ONLY on the Switch version and local only on x-box - which sucks

Very cool. That said, I'll be good with a GoldenEye 64 port to Switch. That game was never about the graphics anyway. Some games lose their magic once they've been re-made.

Your title accidentally states "remake" instead of "remaster". Even putting aside the fundamentally different concepts of those terms as they're typically applied to the industry, or as they relate to core definitions, in the case of Goldeneye specifically the term remake would have a preestablished association to the 2010 Daniel Craig-led GoldenEye 007 (and by extension its 2011 port, Goldeneye 007: Reloaded), while remaster has consistently been used to refer to the HD rework of 1997's Goldeneye 64.

That said, in this particular case, remaster might not be as disappointing a contrast to remake as one'd expect. Even back when the remaster was first cancelled back in 2007 (and here's a great arstechnica article detailing that), it was shaping up to be a pretty good looking remaster (screenshots available in the linked article). Interestingly, the linked article- posted up only just a year ago- implied the HD remaster'd never release, so perhaps the article itself was responsible for building up enough interest in the remaster to once again get it moving along.
