Also, you need to obfuscate the code. Pasting it in plain text just means that bots will grab it within a minute or two of posting, sometimes faster. And that means that your mission to give it to someone on Steamgifts has failed. Not trying to give you a hard time, just stating the facts and trying to help. You're trying to do something nice, so I'm trying to help you be successful at it. :)

I dont want to fail my mission but these are keys i have collected over many months from giveaways and forums. chances are they were used anyway i just need confirmation to change the classification of them on my spreadsheet

Do you have evidence of that? I sometimes get non obfusucated keys a long time after they get posted.
If many keys of the same game gets posted a lot, bots will only work once on them anyway, right?

Seriously, though, you can see the difference when there are long posts of keys...obfuscated sets will have many "thank yous" after them with people verifying that they've gotten them. A similar list that is in plain text will have a bunch of replies that just say "ninja'd" or "dupe." Bots grab these things incredibly fast. Indiegala had to change all of their giveaway section coding, because the bot crawling was so bad that it was creating huge performance issues for all of the legit users.
I understand your point about bots only being able to grab a key for a particular game one time, since you can only register a game one time per account...but unfortunately that's not accurate if the code involved is advanced enough. Some of these people actually have many accounts, and if the key fails on one, it simply iterates in the code to the next account and tries that one. In this way, greedy people are able to hoard keys -- usually the purpose of this is to grab games with cards, which they can then trade for free among all of the accounts they own, then sell all of the cards under their primary account, turning them into real money that they can use to spend on Steam.
Yeah, it's sad and greedy AF. There are a lot of asshats out there, so unfortunately we need to take a few simple precautions to at least slow them down.

True. But think about scaling this across potentially hundreds of games and dozens of accounts...with good bot code, that's possible. And those few cents apiece for cards start to add up fast in that scenario (because now we're talking about thousands of cards), especially during things like the summer sale, where card prices go up because people are trying to complete sets to earn the limited-time badges.
