The exact same thing happened to me a few days ago. I also got the message that someone else might got into my account and got a community ban. After searching a lot I finally found it that it was really related to a link I posted to someone just to remind him to please give feedback. Never gonna post any steamgifts link ever again on steam. It’s really scary that an account got locked only for this.
Oh and btw they also deleted all my comments that was made 1 week ago as the ban came. But since it where not important comments I’m not going to bother with the steam support to restore them.

Welcome to the suck. I had hoped that they would have improved their auto-ban bot in the time since it happened to me but I guess not. It took almost two weeks of very demanding pestering on my part to get everything back to normal and all my posts restored. It may be a pain but I would encourage you to force them to fix everything if for no other reason than to give the community support biscuits the experience and add another mark to their "we had to undo bot stupidity" tally on the wall.

I think I tried to write about steamgifts in a comment, not even an URL - Steam just ate my comment. Ended up commenting about Spacecat, it was quite clear that Valve doesn't like the mentions of Steam*somethingsomething with mentions of congratulations and winning.

glad someone necro'd this thread because I just got my account community banned and an alert that someone might have tried to steal my account, all after i posted on on a profile asking them to redeem their damn key. glad it's just the auto-catcher and not someone reporting me i guess. appeals all sent in on my end, but i'm v resentful having to deal with this in the first place.
update: got my account unlocked after two hours. the comments are still deleted (incl. comments that were in no way associated with SG on my own damn screenshots in convos i was having with steam friends) but at least the account itself is unblocked.

Yea, I mean. Just don't post ANYTHING on someone's profile about "wining" "won" "giveaway" etc. I know it's easy to blame steam but remember all the scammers, bots and phishing scams that included these words or used the scam of a "free game" to do so.

So, here's a cautionary tale. It had been a few days since one of my giveaways had ended without it being activated. I posted a comment on the winners profile to let him know he'd won and that there was a time limit for activation. I included a link to the giveaway which turns out to have been a mistake. The Steam automod held up my comment and a few hours later, locked my account. Now I get to wait for Valve support to respond to my ticket. Yay.
Don't make my mistake.
