I just noticed that Steamgifts account sync treats the games that I played from shared libraries as if I owned them. Pretty much the same deal that happens with free weekends. Since steam sharing is still not publicly available then it's a problem that affects only few people, but I think the staff should start thinking of a better solution for account sync, cause all hell is going to break loose when sharing goes public.

Staff can't do anything,it's steam's fault.

Not if they keep the sync by parsing profile pages. But there might be other options, e.g. there is/was once this nice project called Open Steamworks, maybe that could provide a better solution.

The site uses the steam API which provides all the information.

Are you sure? It seems strange that it requires profiles to be public if that's the case.

Anyway, I hope this gets fixed on Valve's end.

I'm thinking of a script that draws information from steam, like free weekend games, and filter them out from people's profiles, that way if the game appears on the user's library and at the same time in the list of free weekend games, but not prior to it, then it could be filtered, thus allowing the user to join the giveaway.

It's not that complex from what i'm thinking, but it IS a piece of code that as such, takes time to do, and that would fall on CG alone if i'm mistaken.....

The problem would be people who buy the game while the free weekend takes place.

And it wouldn't work for Family Sharing.

if the people enter a game they already own this is basic for a reroll request. if someone obviously keeps doing that and not just one-time accident he may be punished. If there is a free weekend you may simply check after GA is over if winner own the game already ;)

it's not a case of "causing too many rerolls" - it's a case of obviously trying to cheat a system. And if someone is caught multiple times on the same thing he cannot just said it's just an accident (same accident over and over again? not likely)
