Yesterday my internet dropped out on my pc, I ran through the troubleshooter and it said to reboot the modem. I did that and the computer said I had internet again but then it dropped out before I could do anything. I tried restating the computer to no effect. Ran through the troubleshooter again and again it said to reboot the modem so I did. Now the computer says I have internet but it can't load anything. I can't connect to steam and I've only managed to load a couple of pages, can't even load google. Run through the troubleshooter and it can't find anything wrong. I connect my phone up to the network and disable my data so that my phone can only use data through the network and it works fine. Any ideas what could be going on with my pc and what I can do to fix it?

Edit: Now it's working but keeps having small dropouts.

Sorry it took a bit but I'm just going to leave this here!

Contact your ISP, they could be having issues, or your modem could be faulty, or any number of other things.

If you are using wifi, try changing the channel the signal uses, as well as a full factory reset instead of shutting off and on.

unplug your modem for at least 10 seconds, then plug it again. that will get it running smoothly again.

run cmd.exe and write this: ipconfig/flushdns
press enter

voilá you are a 1337 h4ck3r now

(that's what I do when my internet doesn't work properly, and it works every time)

Well, this can fix it if it's a DNS issue. Since what command does is to clear/flush out the DNS cache(hence forcing to get new DNS resolves)

Thanks but unfortunately it didn't help.

I'll give my ISP a call but if it's problems at their on or in the region then why would my phone be using the network without a problem?

Sounds really like an ISP issue. What are the lights on your router when this happens?

Lights on my router/modem are all fine, all just as they should be.

Anyone know much about powering adapters? That's what I'm using and the one on the pc end has all green lights but the one on the router/modem end doesn't. Do you think that might be part of the issue? All 3 lights are like an orange colour.

All of these things are different for every model. I am far from a pro at these things, but unless you have a manual or there is something written next to the lights, there is no way at all you can know what is wrong (if something is wrong with this in particular). Since DNS issues were stroke out earlier, I'd say it's probably either your power adapter, your router, or your ISP. For example, I have had super weird issues with one router model years ago that would never let me play BF3, even though I tried everything suggested online tweaking the router settings to make it work. The game only worked after I changed the router later on down the road.

If your issues happened randomly and out of no where though, it shouldn't be settings related. Either some of the hardware went faulty, or your ISP is having troubles. Have a chat with their support and see what will they say about it.

Sorry if I don't make much sense, I am half-asleep already. :/

Edit: If it's not ISP related, you could ask a friend to lend you a router and see if everything will be normal with it. That way at least you will know the issue is the router and you won't buy a new one for nothing.

Thanks for your help. There's only icons next to the lights on the adapters and the manual isn't very helpful. Tried running an ethernet cable and it's working. Looks like the powerline adapter went faulty.
