Why don't you start taking care of that, then? You're working on just over 1 GA per month. Lead by example. Just sayin'. 😏

I totally agree. We need more quality gibs and less +1 games or achievement spam trash.

Why don't you go ahead and make some quality gibs?

Edit: Actually you already did. Nevermind then. I should get my facts straight before I post but usually it's a different type of user who suggest things like that.

Doesn't really matter if SUPERHOT and some of the others were given away for free.
A good game stays a good game even if it has previously been free.

Well, to me there's a difference between bundled and bundled...
See my comment below for more context.

Even a game aquired for free can make somebody happy if you wait a little while after the flood of gibs has passed and it happens to land in the right hands of somebody who actually plays it.

Also I liked OPs low number of gibs entered and their other stats which might have made me more approving. That's the sort of behaviour I respect in a rather new user.

While I'm pretty good with the formal stuff my coloquial English is far from perfect. What does "more fussed on" mean in this context?

None of the translations dict.cc shows me like "nervous, easily startled or indifferent" seem to make sense here.

Edit: Ohh... it's like picky, I assume.

I dont think telling people where to spend their money is a good topic of discussion tbh. Also there are a lot of reasons why people dont want to give their money for quality stuff to giveaway and i totally understand that.

Sorry if i sounded rude. It is just my thought that if you hang up on what other people do you would probably never get what you want out of that. I agree it would be more lively around here if people give more quality stuff but when you spend more time here you will get what i am talking about.

I just hide all of the stuff I don't want to see a mostly enter from things that come up from my wishlist, So I am happy to have a few giveaways to enter, after all, it's great to win a game or two, but I am also happy to keep tackling my backlog and of course all of the new games I keep adding to my library anyway.

I'm doing the same thing and just checked (https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/giveaways/filters). I have hidden 14,896 games/DLC I'm not interested in playing O.O
I used to love those ones, when the point generation here depended on the total value of created giveaways, now I just don't care much about them.

Same, have 12529 and add more almost every day. Very small fraction of those are DLCs/games I own but still can enter.

since Steam made it hard to gift between regions, and all is left basically is to get games from bundles, you ain't gonna see many quality games aside from those, sadly.

Well... for me quality has nothing to do with unbundled or bundled. I've discovered plenty of great games through Humble T1s.

Stuff like Gods Will Be Watching, Beat Cop, heck even Terraria was in a Pay What you Want bundle at some point loooong time ago.

Granted quality is to a certain degree subjective but for many games it's not.

Well one could suggest that it all starts with someone making that first move and others following - so perhaps if You start, others might follow - just a thought and don't get disheartened if it does not happen right away. On the other hand, if people didn't want the games being offered, then they would not enter to win them; but as they continue to do so, it is perhaps fair to say that the current list of giveaways is wanted by at least a few people (it's all a matter of taste after all, "ones persons trash is anothers treasure" works as well in the gaming community as anywhere else) :P

Just a little correction: AAA does not necessarily equal quality. Especially nowadays, when the game industry is more scummy and predatory than ever.

Another little correction: this group is not about gifting AAA games, but about gifting quality games, as the name implies. Quality is not defined by the number of As, but the review rating and counter on Steam.

Steamgifts exists more or less as a place to give away unwanted Steam keys to people who might enjoy them. Of course you get people buying trash bundles to create GAs. But, the majority of people are giving away games that they already own, or would never play themselves from bundles they bought for themselves. So, when new bundles come out, you're going to see many of the same games being given away.

There are a few people who give away top wishlisted games because they're nice and in a position to do so. But, that can't be the case all of the time.

I don't think the site will die out because a lot of the GAs are same-y. I'm sure it's always been like this. :P

I started giving games away on SG because I found many traders to be extremely greedy wanting several high or good quality bundle games for ONE they also got in a bundle. I would honestly rather give them away for free. lol.

In what aspect is this the opposite?
I see that since 2019, the average amount of monthly giveways is between 30 and 35k when it was an average of 80-90k between 2016 and 2018.

If giving away quality titles were more worth it, I'd gladly do it frequently at sales. Well, I plan to do some anyway, as I got much from this community already and feel willing to contribute back some, but I would be more motivated and would do much more GAs if the CV reduction would be more in line with the actual sale percent.
I mean, I would gift a good game of 20 euros base price when its at 75% off, so 5 euros for eg. But according to the rules, i'd only get CV value equal to 0,15base value, which is 3 euros (correct me if i am wrong). :/ The ratio is even worse at smaller % sales.
Also with sales being fairly frequent in different stores, I often find quality games still marked with an asterisk
long-long after they were on sale last time.
I understand that there can be keys from an earlier sale, given away at a later time. And I read the FAQ, noting that monitoring all the sales is not an easy task, made possible by volunteers. I totally get that, its reasonable, while trying to be relatively fair. And its nice to give away things, regardless of CV value.
But to be honest, this method undoubtedly reduces incentive. It does for me at the very least. I am not exactly wealthy, so any purchase I make must be thoroughly evaluated.

You get full CV on discounted steam games, so long as they've never been bundled or given away free somewhere before. So the game that is 75% off, provided it hasn't been in a bundle previously, should still give full CV.

I think if their sale price ever goes below 90%, they're also counted as bundled and you get the reduced 15% CV.

Oh, I see, thats good to know! Thanks for the correction!
However, whenever I had the idea to look for a good game (that I personally knew was good) for a GA, it was asterisked on each occasion. I can only guess that so many games have beend bundled troughout the years, that it gets progressively harder to find something that was not bundled at least once already.

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, Humble Bundle does put a lot of good indie games into their bundles (even if people complain about them constantly lol). I think if something starts being heavily discounted in Steam sales, it's probably going to end up in a bundle sooner or later. I've noticed this with games I've bought for myself on sale. They turned up in a bundle months later. =)

I think if their sale price ever goes below 90%

As was pointed out to me recently when I also said it was 90, the treshold for the Reduced CV list is 95% off the US store price anywhere in the world.

So if you look at it reversed, which is proably easier:

Anything you buy for ≤ 5% of the US store price will be added to the Bundle list retroactively even if it doesn't have an asterisk when you create the giveaway.

I'm sure there will be a constant demand for better games, I don't think it's needed though.

What metrics are important for this better selection? Dumping 100 new hentai sudoku games as giveaways would be a better selection. But it wouldn't be a better selection.

I'd recommend diving into the features of the site to try and find new stuff. If you're checking the front page you may see the same stuff over and over but the real interesting stuff will only take a few slots per page. You may just be missing them, hide the games you don't want to enter and maybe you will see a better selection without needing more giveaways to happen.

Well.. if you're only leveling with the intention of winning more and more GAs I've got bad news for you, the vast majority of GAs are made for lower levels, have a look in here (scroll down to near botttom) and check the amount of GAs that have been made for each level, after level 4-5 it really dips down low.

Or you just could've accessed this page - https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?q=&level_min=5 and see that there are not that many giveaways that require any level above 5. With all the things I hid on the site I can only see 6 giveaways currently that need level 5+, and only 49 for level 3+, for example

While it is true that both the number of new GAs and the overall quality has lowered over the years there are a number of reasons both external and internal why this is the case.

External reasons

  • Steam inventory being removed and gifting of games restricted by price % difference.
  • Steam not liking people gifting games too much and locking accounts from gifting (only seen this happen recently though)
  • More region pricing/restrictions
  • Steam sales (the old kind with flash sales) not happening
  • HB threatening with shutting down accounts for giving keys
  • With the popularity of bundles there are less games available as developers appear to be more reluctant to bundle their games
  • In the same vein, people are less willing to spend on games because they've been spoiled by bundles (I am aware that this doesn't apply to everyone and that region pricing sucks in certain areas)
  • More shovelware being mass produced and bundled for quick easy money (Achievement games/hentai games/'trivia' games...)
  • DIfferent store fronts removing games from steam to publish on their own
  • Epic exclusivity taking a lot of games
  • There is this thing... a deadly virus going on... yeah that ain't helping things, between people losing jobs and future 'once in a lifetime' recession looming people are probably being a bit more frugal

Internal Reasons

  • People are not as active anymore, users come and go and it tends to be that the more active users are also the more generous when it comes to gifting/event planning
  • On that, there used to be that some users that created events would get a ton of flak during/after events and have GA links leaked and whatnot which discouraged a lot of people
  • There is slowly more of a focus on games being played (this is a good thing) and not simply gifted randomly, so a lot of the better GAs are locked behind different steam groups/forum events
  • On the topic of groups, it seems that there is a lot more people being active within specific groups over open forum or public GAs, if I had to guess it's maybe due to burnout from dealing with some of the user base
  • Number of easy to exploit CV bundles driving the leechers up in level while not really contributing to the site
  • Leechers... leechers everywhere

These are all just things I thought of quickly, there are probably other things I overlooked though.
