TF2 economy is dying, I sold all my stuff while I could it'd worth 30-35% less now. What about you?

Keys in dota are going down because people are trying to buy compendiums

True. It didn't start until the compendiums came. Prices were stable before that update.

Thats not the reason. The reason behind that, is that nw chests dont need keys.

No, it's pretty much all down to the compendium. The price of stuff like Dota foils have fallen for the same reason. As long as Valve keeps the key price constant on their store, treasure keys will move back to their previous price.

Supply & Demand mate. The market will continuously rise up until Valve releases a huge stream of new hats to craft, then probably refined will be a bit more in demand, but unlikely as its cheaper to craft two hats instead. Refined needs a new use. That's all. Keys will eventually rise up to 50 refined otherwise, as long as tf2 doesn't shut down.

I've been wringing my hands, waiting for ref to hit the market, and keys to jump in trades to 9 ref (about what they should be when keys are $2.40+ ...in a balanced market)

I started TF2 trading around three months ago, keys were going for 7.11 back then so the inflation of keys is around 1 reclaimed/month

Yup... quit TF2 trading around that time, was used to 2-2.33 ref price for a key. Came back a bit more than a year later and was like WTF.. Too bad I had 0 keys and a lot of refs, should've traded them when I had the chance xD

Yeah, they're gonna name it like Team Fortress Ultimate, or Team Fortress Forever, just to evade the magical 3.

I sold all my stuff, because I'm sick of the game. Also metal is worthless, it's free, unlimited supply,Doesn't even get consumed much. Most people don't craft that much. More metal is generated then used. Expect metal to constantly inflate, it's never gonna stop until no one can afford a key without actually paying up with cash.

It's a market. Prices fluctuate. As long as there is a large number of people playing TF2, the economy will live.

Keys didn't rise. Metal fell. Cause it's free to craft.

metal is a constantly growing resource. it only makes sense, that it's getting worth less and less. i dont see how that leads to a dying ecomony in your opinion.

Sorry to be slightly off-topic, but can anyone point me to an explanation of why and how refs have decimals? Why is it 7.66 or 8.11 instead of 7 or 8 and how does it translate in actual items?

1 Ref = 3 rec = 9 scrap = 18 craftable weapons

0.11 Ref = 1 scrap = 2 weapons

Thanks! So the decimals are a reference to weapons! But in practice, what's the difference between, say, 7.11 and 7.66 refs? I mean, if I say I'll trade 1 key for 7.11 refs, I get 7 refs and if it's 7.66 I still get 7 refs... right?

there are 3 types of metal, like I posted above.
Metal can be crafted or dismantled at will between those three types.

If you have 3 rec in your inventory, you can craft them into 1 Refined.
If you have 1 Refined, you can disassemble it into 3 rec.
Each 1 rec can be disassembled into 3 scraps.
3 scraps can be crafted into 1 rec.

Thus: 1 Ref = 3 rec = 9 scrap = 18 craftable weapons

Please note that weapons-scrap only works one way, meaning you can not disassemble 1 scrap into 2 weapons, you can only turn 2 weapons into 1 scrap.

If you need to give 7.11 Ref, you could give 7 x 1 Ref + 1 scrap or 7 x 1 Ref + 2 weapons
If you need to give 7.66 Ref, you could give 7 x 1 Ref + 2 rec or 7 Ref + 6 scrap (because it's the same value).

Of course you could also give 21 rec instead of 7 Ref, because again, it's the same value.

7.11 Ref are also worth 128 weapons, though a trader will probably block you if you try to pay with only weapons.

For more information on TF2 metal, you should consult the TF2 wiki

Thanks again. I did take a look at the wiki, but never really got the whole picture right in terms of trading. So when people say 7.11 refs they do mean 7 refs plus something else. My mistake was thinking that the decimal portion was a formality that was always dropped in practice. I think I got it now. :)

1.9$ for a key no matter Market or PayPal. Market prices are 2.3$ because of fees.

I used to buy a key for 1.80$ plus fees (Paypal) now the guy raised the price to 1.85$ still a decent deal compared to the official 2.49$ Mann Co. Store price. If you buy keys on the market they go for 2.33$ a pop (although it fluctuates)
