well, I dont think so :) BUT why would u idle on so many accounts? unless all of them are "premium".?

It's legal and you're not going to get banned for it.

It's not illegal. But if you are interested in getting tradeable items then all of your accounts must be premium.

You don't need multiple PCs, it's enough when you set up some virtual boxes on one PC with Linux and idle there.

Sandboxes. A perfect example of a good sandbox program is Sandboxie.

Steamgifts is a site with giveaways made by members spending money on them, so obviously mult. accounting is an immoral no-no. TF2 is a game where items are generated out of thin air and can be traded off for profit. How does your comparison work again?

+1 wasn't planning to do it either but the items arent games so i arent planning to do any other thing with those accounts just idling

Permalink

yeah but the items you idle can easily make you a profit. paints themselves sell for like $ .50-1.00 and ive made a nice amount just from the steam market with those paints.

No, I know there is guy who idles on 110 accs at same time, I can't remember his name now, but he have youtube channel and he bought 1000$ + bike with idling only

No. It's not. Unless it is, then you're screwed.

But why idle? If you're trying to build up your item inventory for actually playing the game, the default loadouts are still mostly effective, and there's a trading system. Just play the game. It's not as if you're going to be an proficient with most of the stuff you get without playing the game first.

If it's for the market, consider this: will the sales you make exceed the cost of running your rig during the time it takes to acquire sellable inventory? This is a real concern, and unless you're running on someone else's power bill and/or have extremely efficient rigs, you'll probably find it pointless.

because i want some more items XD but not yet for the market just for trading and stuff but i will run them while im doing other things so its just free items

99% of the time, it's their parents paying the electricity bill so that's a moot point! :p

You're lucky to get .50 cents a week, so $2 a month won't cover electricity in any country.

Are you assuming one would just be selling the items that can be sold directly? Because I think that you could augment the income by trading weapons for tags and such. Also, having parents pay for it is not desirable. Less for them, less for you and all that.

I'm not talking about items you can sell on the market, I'm talking everything you receive.

You get about 12 items per week on average, the majority of them are weapons or crates. Crates are almost completely worthless unless you get real lucky and get a salvaged crate. You need 18 weapons to turn them into one refined which is worth about .50 cents. I see you have a lot of hours, but haven't played in at least two weeks. It wasn't that recent, but they have actually decreased the amount and quality of the weekly drops.

Thanks for running the numbers. So yeah, idling for profit is fundamentally foolhardy. Would have to run multiple accounts and engage in hard core arbitrage hunting to get anything out of it. Might as well take overtime.

And yes, I played a ton of TF2 back in the day (the numbers are inaccurate since they only started tracking play time a year or so after launch). Not so much anymore, partially because of the (imo) retarded drop system.

You can idle in textmode in the background while you play something else meaning there would not be any extra cost.

it's horrible, they've fined 2 of my steam pals last week D:
and another's on trial !

EDIT: nope, there are servers specifically set up just for idling

you can also text mode idle, which is what i do; if you want to play another steam game while idling, but there's a limit to the drop rate per week though idling or not

Yes and no.

You can't use external program for idling. You'll get vac ban. ( However you can use Command Line Options. Look at this )

Also, You can't use Sandbox programs. They'll trigger vac ban too. But you can use Virtual Machines ( I think... )

You need to make your account Premium (easiest way is to just buy the cheapest thing in the Mann Co. Store) before you can trade the items.

F2P can trade nametags, desctags, dropable paints and miniduel games. An extra plus since they dont get hats these tools drop quite often thats easy to amass them quickly. Ahhh the "art" of idling

No not talking about achievement hats. There is a veeeeeeery small chance to get hat drop for F2P players too. Know this because one of my friends who is F2P player got it while I was at his house and we were playing.

Most likely this can happen if a player opens a Secret Saxton and the gift is a hat, tho is rare as hell. Thats the last thing i remember unless ExDec provides proof about his statement

As a free to play if you get dropped a tool, as in paint or name tags those are tradable even as a f2p account
