So I noticed some giveaways are available only if you joined certain steam groups but you are able to see them only once you are already in;

how do I find these groups then? Is there a top list? do you recommend some?

Well, you just posted in Group Recruitment. Check the group recruitment threads.

Yeah you are right I was doing that, but I'm getting kinda confused wether people mean these groups do closed giveaways on steamgifts or not, there's all sort of things

There are users who run scripts or try to join as many large public groups as possible. Then there are of course the closed giveaway groups.
Since all of them can be different, it is difficult to give you any kind of generic answer on them. The only thing that is generic that if a giveaway has multiple groups enabled and you are eligible for even just one, you can still see the other groups' names and even check their SG stats.
Start with SteamGift's own group, it is relatively popular enough.

Also, just keep in mind: if you want to join groups only to enter giveaways, then you will not likely get past public ones. The only large private group specifically made to let people win is the Unlucky 7—but you are ineligible to win anything there as you are past seven won games.
There are some private groups that recruit a lot of people here as well, but those often just promote something or they are meant to serve as a freebie game mine for the admins.

  1. Some recruit here on SG at times. Example. You can find them by checking this section of the forum. (Tip: before posting, check if they are still recruiting and if you meet all the conditions.)
  2. Some are part of another community and find the others that way. Examples: users on an alpaca lovers forum, real life friends, etc. You don't go look for them, you just happen to find them if your interests are the same.
  3. Some are directly invited by an owner or mod of the group. Example: "whitelist" group, as in, people using a group for people they like instead of their whitelist, in order to keep the whitelist open for other things. You don't find those either, you just hope they find you :P
