Fact: No one is obligated to make giveaway after winning something. It's a gifting site, not a 'trade random games for random games' site.
Your opinion: He's a leech and you will blacklist him for it.
His opinion (which I share): There's nothing wrong with using the site as you want as long as you follow the rules. And furthermore it's pretty lame to blacklist people just because you don't agree with them. Immature, even. Go ahead if you feel like it, I won't return the 'favour'.

Also, is he really a leech? He gave away enough games to reach lvl 5, which is not bad. With that money he could've go buy some flowers for mother or invite girlfriend to not cheap restaurant. Already (2 months) I am here I saw a guy lvl 0 with 200+ games won - that's a leecher...
But ok, even leeching is allowed here, if only your morals allow you. Some minutes ago I saw a thread of a guy that wanted to trade games for CS:GO skins. I simply shared link to trades on sgifts and he closed the topic. Then I saw that games he won here are the exact same ones he want to trade, I couldn't warn him and I feel bad since I shouldn't really bother - but that's also leeching, sneaky and greedy one.
And ye I'm sorry I reply to your comment, but didn't want to break the chain xD
Have a nice day, you, not that ''let there be balance in what we give and what we win" butthurt :P

As I would never make a GA for level 0's, BL'ing them is irrelevant. Making any public GA require level 1 or higher essentially automatically BL's every single account on this site whom has never made a GA.

he basically makes my point perfectly. whenever you dare to criticise anything, you take a gamble as to whether the mod team or their crusaders will get upset and feel the need to 'punish' you for daring to claim that this place has a negative side as well as a positive one. His post was in relation to my won/gift ratio, because he views me as a leecher with no right to criticise how some people here behave.

edit: nailed it. I don't think ratio really matters when it comes to simply stating observations that I've made while using the site. Its not really a complaint, its just a statement of fact. This site can be downright ruthless, both its users and its moderation team.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean with your post. I do agree that typically if the OP of a popular thread has broken the rules somehow, the visibility of the thread means that it's much easier for people to create user reports for the person = suspension comes more quickly. But if there's nothing except criticism, there's nothing to suspend for.

About "Flaw number one". the winner can win a game and it can be fake, but his second win for that game not, or he won just the base game and in second win he won full pack, so he can just ask to reroll for the first win if it happened shortly.

Make it an optional feature. It's really not that hard to implement.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How could it be made to be optional? What would be the default? It just seems like a lot of extra data that needs to be stored for each user profile if they want to enable the feature >.< and winning two giveaways of the exact same game is pretty rare anyways.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not a lot of extra data. It's one more setting among the list of existing ones Obviously disable it by default because not everyone would want it, but for people who enter a bunch of the same giveaway when there's a flood of them, they would get back the points spent. What's so hard to understand about that? It's literally one additional query to perform the change.

So... The giveaway creator refused to reroll? If you got in trouble for this, then that's bullshit. but I doubt this is the case.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The only valid one would be the second suggestion, it would help the giveaway creator know that the key isn't compromised yet, but the other 2 suggestions are stupid.

The first one as sviat said there are many reasons why it wouldn't work. And the last one as CheeseTuber said you shouldn't need a reminder at 4 weeks and even just for the first 7 days it would be annoying, what if the giveaway creator is busy and hasn't have a chance to send the key, you would just keep getting reminders that you have to activate the whole time. And then you are also entering giveaways for games you didn't even want and that's just wrong.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If the give away creator hasn't sent the key the gift would not be marked as sent so you won't have a reminder to activate.
If the counter gets annoying.... good! That would encourage people to activate rather than leave the gift idle.

I agree its best to follow rules and if you get a suspension deal with it rather than whining. However I do agree with OP that things could be done to encourage people to follow the rules (even if the original suggestions are slightly flawed) surely that would be a good thing for everyone?

I'm not.. sure if you realize this but he was asking for reminders as well. And I'm not sure if you've ever been in a car, bought a gun, or seen specialty stuff for drunk drivers but uh.. Yeah those all exist. One is this amazing little thing that's called a speedometer and tells you your speed and some super smart cars can tell if you're speeding. There's also lots of crap you have to go through to get a gun and now people are lobbying for more. Also there exists silly little things that wont allow you to start your car if you're drunk.

The point he was making was that designating someone else to be your Mommy doesn't solve the problem. You still have to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions. Flaw one: there are many issues that your idea would make - most obvious one was already mentioned.

Flaw two: well, SG operates on basis we're not jerks. But since there's way too many jerks hiding key sounds nice. But automatic reroll is bad due to friend-circles that would reroll and reroll and reroll until right friend would win.

Flaw number three: read FAQ, notice you MUST activate your wins right away. So if you won game, there's no need for any countdown as you either copy-paste key right away or you click "add to my library" before clicking "received". If you do anything else - you're breaking rules.

I'm willing to risk "winning" a fake giveaway because of nearly 100, it hasn't happened once for me. It'll probably happen eventually. As for the feature itself, it's not difficult to add the feature and make it optional.

I agree with pt 1. A simple check if a game was won twice is easy enough. It's also very likely with games that are being gifted a lot ( I.e polarity a few days before )

With point 2, I see a lot of people not putting the key in the key box upon creation. I bet they're checking the winner's profile first before putting the key on it.

The game I "didn't activate" was quietly residing in my inventory for a few months cause I got it by email and didn't really notice it was the same gift from sg. Not to mention it wasn't a game of interes as well

so I entered a bunch of giveaways. Hence the 2 wins in 2 hours

You do know you can ask for a re-roll in case this happens,i mean damn i suppose it takes up to much of your busy time to do that, but you have plenty of time to complain about this flaw that really is not a flaw because you could have done things to not get in trouble for winning 2 games like this.

. At this point I could scam the system, activate the key and mark as not received.
You could but it would show in your account that you have the game, and for you to enter it can not exist in your account there are some games that due show a GA despite you owning it,but no matter what you do you could not prevent fraud no matter what plan you come up with,as this system works on the honor system and most people are honest If you think you can do a better job make your own SteamGifts site and show us how much better it can be.

Flaw number three. The non-activated gifts. If there is a rule about it, add the goddamn counter on how many days remain to activate. Or even better a popup window like you do with won games. The game I "didn't activate" was quietly residing in my inventory for a few months cause I got it by email and didn't really notice it was the same gift from sg.

That is not a flaw that is your fault,do you need your hand held for every little step?If your going to enter every GA you can, then you also must take action on your part, instead wanting everything automated, stop being lazy and do a little work yourself. The gift is in your inventory so how hard is it to forget about.Seems to me your just entering to win games and add to your game count instead of entering for games you really want other wise this would not happen.

You broke the rules and you got in trouble for it,no matte how you try and spin your web,in the end it is still a web,you made your bed now you must lay in it.I think the only thing flawed is how you think everything should be done for you and all you should have to do is sit back and win games.I guess the people who take the time to make these GA have more time then you do to enter them so they must make everything auto for you so your precious time is not taken up.

7 days is not enough time for you to activate a game? Then maybe you should not enter a GA if you do not have the time to follow the rules or activate gifts, you do not have the time, but everyone else is suppose to make time to make GA easier for you to win and collect.

I will agree a auto re-roll if you you win the game would be nice, but then again what if one turns out to be a fake GA and the other real there is no simple answer or fix for this, again this site is based on the honor system and most people being nice, but that is not always the case and that is the risk you take, just like in real life there will always be people who want to do harm and those who want to do good, the internet is no different.

No1. U won 2 games? Just ask for reroll or send support ticket.
No2. Don't be an ass,ask for reroll or send support ticket.
No3 Why would u enter for game if ur not gonna activate it? If u do that,u deserve ban imo. And how did u not notice cat tripping on acid dancing on ur screen when u won the game?

  • Flaw one: Until you're actually added the game, removing other entries for it would be premature as it might end up being a duplicate key, a giver who never delivers, etc. Winning two of the same game isn't a frequent occurrence, and the specifics are best handled on a case by case basis.

  • Flaw two: There are much easier ways for an immoral user to "scam" the system than winning two giveaways and taking both wins, so I don't see this as a significant issue. At first glance I liked your idea of hiding the key until the winner decided to accept it, but on second thought I feel that in the vast majority of cases you should not be winning games you aren't inclined to receive and the exceptions should be handled via support ticket.

  • Flaw three: It's obvious you're upset with the SG team, but the comments about not helping, setting traps, and not fixing the system are uncalled for. As for activating won games in a timely fashion, it's not that much to ask users to track ,activate, or get support for their wins even if they win a game or more daily. If you can't handle this, I don't see a problem with a temporary suspension to drive importance of doing so home, while you have to forgo winning more free games for a few days.

  • Gifts Recieved:16, Gifts Sent: 8. Yes, please rant more about the problematic free game site.

In flaw one, it's more than just not winning a game twice. It's also being able to recoup points on giveaways for a game you've just won and aren't online to do yourself. It's a valid use case because the site is often flooded when there's a high discount. If I won, why would I still want to be entered in other GAs of the same game? It doesn't have to on or off for everyone, make it a feature.

Just to add my 2 cents, I dunno how much resources would have to be put in implementing the "show key" button, but it sounds good on paper. I mean until you click it you don't see the key, and it would be easier to ask for reroll then (for whatever reason) since the system would know the key was not activated and the original winner is not trying to scam anyone.
Automatic reroll on the other hand does not sound really good.

Nope, point 2 seems that has sense, but the key can be sent by mail or in chat. So putting it on SG is only one of the options. So can't be treated as the only way a key has been received /seen by the winner.
