I had lots of fun playing L4D2 years ago and I thought it would be a good idea to play some more. I couldn't be more wrong due to the game being infested with the following categories of players:

a) 2-5k hours of playtime frustrated kiddies
b) just kiddies
c) rage quitters
d) retards (sorry for using this word)

It used to be a completely different game, but now it's, to put it bluntly, an utterly atrocious experience. If you don't have your own party, you'll get thrown into a septic tank.
On the other hand, though, the problem with high ping servers seems to be fixed.

An obligatory key drop: C526I-EE7GW-6DADB (Alien Breed 2)

Not really, used to be better, still playable tho. I have to agree that it's true, but it's really not such a big change.

As long as you have a friend (better if IRL) then you'll have a ton of fun. I always play L4D2 with my friends from school and it's a ton of fun.

It seems to be that you really don't like kids at all, they never bother me unless they have a mic, if they do just join a different server.

That sounds like the same experience I had a couple of years ago when I tried to get into L4D2.

By 'a couple of' do you mean 2 or maybe 4 years?

I got bored of the game overall. I would much rather prefer zombie survival in garrys mod.

Pretty much feel the same way, the game became more of a chore when slugging through levels.

Yeah, I had that feeling a fair amount of times during my time with it.

the game gets boring unless you frequent visits to the workshop. Which piles hours upon hours of new content added to the game.

Killing Floor is awesome indeed. I haven't played it for a year, but you're totally right. As soon as KF2 gets a price tag I'll pre-order it.

Killing Floor has had the best community out of all the MP games that I've played: it's not perfect, but I've run into far fewer immature/abusive players than in any of the other games.

Maybe I'd try to play some KF if there was a way to enable a normal crosshair in that game.

KILLING FLOOR WOOO! killing floor 2 is coming out and i can't wait.

One of the reasons i think Killing floor gets rid of stupid kids by itself is its difficulty.

This is what you get if you make a game F2P.
Even if just for a short period of time.

Hopefully, the same fate will not happen in Counter Strike

Counter Strike has only community servers so it's impossible to have the same fate.
If you were talking about CS:GO, it's already worse than that.

You can't play L4D2 without friends nowadays. Two months ago me and 6 other friends were playing versus and decided to make the server public, worst idea that day. Most people we played with were always calling us names, the usual ones were "noobs" "you guys suck" "run you fool", "OMG you are the famous lima" (joke). But there was this one guy, oh my fucking god. He called us names using his mic and the chat at the same time, he even took the fucking time to invite the 7 of us to a group called "Why are you so retarded?"

Worst community I've had to deal with, but I don't play COD so I wouldn't know if there are worst than this one.

I never managed to complete a full Scavenger game due to retards spamming kick votes if you don't play exactly like them.

I'll stick to the more friendly community of Killing Floor.

The L4D community has been that way from the beginning. Since I don't have a dedicated group of friends to play with I pretty much gave up on it years ago.

Dota is an exception. It was always like that, ALWAYS. Same as any MOBA. They'll never change. And yes, even if Warcraft 3 was not F2P, if you went to internet cafes, you would see 50 kids playing DotA for 1 - 3 hours a day. Same for CS1.6. One kid's mom sold her workplace, and with half the money paid on an internet cafe thousands of hours for her kid to play, and I'm not kidding. That kid was going there for 5+ hours a day. But at least he knew how to play and was a pretty good gamer.

I felt very compelled to write so much as this isn't just a problem for L4d but for gaming in general, If you read the following then more power to you! If not then just overlook it and proceed to the giveaways in SG :)

That list is just what nearly all public game communities become eventually. The issue has certainly gotten worse over the years, I think in part due to lower priced hardware & wide acceptance/promotion of troll culture. These kids(could even be 40yr & still have the mentality of a small child) only continually grow in number as well because this has become acceptable & expected gamer behavior online.

Its certainly not hard to fit in with them though. All you have to do is stop using your own original constructive commentary/thoughts & instead only say overused internet slag & memes to describe your every waking moment. Doing drugs seems to be a factor also, the more incoherent & wasted a person becomes seems to draw in more respect. Creating a twitch or youtube to display these accomplishments could even send you into stardom & begin making a lot of dosh.

Some used to take a stand ingames(perhaps still do) to promote better behavior-teamwork to accomplish goals. Trying that now sometimes can result in becoming grieved, discredited, kicked or your comment buried quickly by overwhelming numbers. Unfortunately, the desirable people you may want to play with hide in private groups/servers partly due to this.

Not all of the younger gamers(& older) online are so disrespectful or uncooperative though & there is certainly times where people just want to let loose & be wild, I am subject to it as well. That is where the distinction needs to be found to separate friend from troll.

The only advice I can give is to simply turn off the mics or begin overheating the mute button on users ingame. You could also mention how absurd some people are being & leave the room. If enough people follow suit it may begin to reinforce the idea that better behavior is required to play with others online. But you of course may end up just hopping from room to room doing this till you exit the game. Thus why private groups & servers become the ultimate refuge.

Lastly, Steam cards haven't exactly helped gaming either. You can sometimes find AFK people ingames that are just wanting their drops & never intend to play afterwards. The same could be said about reward programs such as Playfire. I have friends who don't really have ambition for games other then just getting a certain achievement & credit for it within PF. They wont even play or proceed to any other game unless it's on the list at the blog & they don't return to the games either. Perhaps some intend to later but this process can take up all of persons free time so it wont be anytime soon. PF does at least promote teamwork as some of the achievements may require it.

Many of the games that appear dead, are in fact not. Its the community & rewards that sometimes drive people into seclusion & unambitious gameplay.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Let's hope you are wrong about the gaming communities becoming all the same. You can read my experience playing L4D2 on my previous comment, played Guns of Icarus Online with the same group of friends a week later after playing L4D2. It was the complete opposite. Everyone was so friendly, experienced players giving advice, they even let me pilot the ship, which is the hardest part of the game. But I guess this was because the game is for more mature audience.

Regarding the Steam cards and Playfire rewards part, I decided not to judge anyone doing these, people are free to do with their time and money whatever they want. Sometimes I even find myself helping them unlocking achivements.

This is just about every game. I don't have friends to play with, so really I drop lots of games that I try to play, especially since I don't have a mic(Neither can I get one to work, so it wouldn't matter anyways, apparently I'm too stupid). I've recently had this experience with No More Room In Hell. I just got it a few weeks ago, first time playing it. It's pretty 'dead' and most of the players are annoying mic-spamming kids and/or teens.

Play it with your friends. In general, almost every game (TF2, CS:GO, Dota, L4D2, etc) with a public lobby is going to have the same experience unless you do a PUG or just play with your friends or just mess around and don't mind.

This is why I've kind of stopped playing multiplayer, the only multiplayer games I've played have been on Battlefield 2 Project Reality where most people are mature or any other game but only with friends.

I'm not into this kind of multiplayer mainly because of that issue and probably due to the fact that I don't have any friends that play the games I play.
