Ever buy a bundle? Grab some of the keys you used on your account and send them as proof.

old bundles had keys, if you have any can be enough probably, or just screenshot of bundle where you "added" game to your steam acc, there will be your steam acc name also that you added game

i don't know how it works but didn't you get receipts from steam after your purchase with a "Thank you for your purchase!" title? i suppose they don't send it when you pay it with paysafe card and paypal(?) O.o

i only added funds to my wallet via paypal, didn't buy direct a game. i got these messages of course but the money was from steam wallet

considering you're the one who is adding and spending funds, and of course you're the one who is using the linked email address i think a receipt screenshot should do the trick. anyway let's see what will the support say. good luck. o/

let's say i get my account back, is there a chance to get to know who did it? and what i'm asking myself, how the fuck did they do this?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You've lost your account. You need a key on actual cd you've bought and digital keys won't solve the problem. If I got it right you didn't have confirmed payment stuff so there's no chance. Well, maybe they'll return your account if we all sign a petition (just kidding).

i sent a paypal payment to support like the say it at the "what to do if your account gets hijacked" page... that's not enough?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

When you go to your account there's a column named "The following payment methods are currently associated with your account.". If paypal was there you're fine and they should return your account. Otherwise Steam doesn't have any information about these payments so they can't check if it's really yours.

yeah, because people still buy physical copies. hell i don't even have any -not even one- game cd except the ones that are pirated games which belong to my life before i found lord gaben.

well:

  • did you reuse you password?

  • did you reuse your email password (and someone did password reset)?

  • possible malware?

  • is your password strong enough?

and no, there is little to no chance to find out who did it.

Hmmmm very strange...99% you have something in your pc....try MalwareBytes & see your recent email log-in history (to see who accessed your email). EDIT:After cleaning change your password, security question etc....and use strong password :)

The chance they find out who did it is slim, even if they managed to track it down to the exact PC that did it, to prove a specific person in that house did it would still be slim.

As for how they did it, there is a few different ways, they could have managed to install a keylogger on your PC that got it (Make sure to format the PC after this is resolved and before you set the new passwor and change your email password afterword too), they could have got you to log in to a fake valve website or even via social engineering tricked someone into giving up that information.

As others have said, if you have the key to at least one physical game you have bought on the account you can use that as proof. As for games purchased online, I am not sure if those could be used. But if you have a bunch of games on your account purchased via a credit card or anything, you might be able to use that as proof as it does have your name and address as part of that information.

  1. Contact Steam support ASAP! (they require a few days to respond, so send them a message quickly)
  2. CHECK YOUR COMPUTER FOR VIRUSES! There is a virus in existence that overrides Steam Guard. If your existing antivirus does not show anything, try installing another one.
  3. Monitor and write down any activities that happen on your profile (you can check your acc from browser or friend's account, if yours is private)
  4. Do screenshots of all valuable items in your inventory (gifts, TF2 items)
  5. Wait! Valve usually resolves such things, if you give them time. However, I haven't seen any hackers getting punished or banned.
6 (unrelated). May I ask how did you get such look for your windows?

i got hacked too a while back i didnt had any credit card that i used to bought anything with it from steam too nor a retail game key but i gave them one of my steam games cd key (max payne 3) cause i wrote it somewhere when i wanted to active it in social club and a bit of other information like sometime how much i charged my wallet and how much of it i used to buy something in what date things like that and they gave my account back.they are really helpful if you can prove thats your account but at first when i didnt knew anything to tell them they wouldn't answer my ticket for weeks:(till i told them those so expect that if you dont have enough proof and they wont answer.

edit:and if you have any of the email that steam sent you when you receive gifts or buy something and... definitely will help and is a proof
