Is in it great to win something for a change ....????

Sure especially if you get notification for the game you wanted for some time ..... but what about that feeling when you can't activate the key you've been given?

Ok no problem, just contact the creator of the GA and get correct key ... But he insist that the key is valid - ??? Am I stupid or Steam having a glitch ....

Retrying to use it but getting reply that it was used already for a week, marking it as 'not received' (for the first time since I've been here) and putting a feedback which can't be positive considering all of the above.

So now, I'm getting a negative feedback where he still insist that key could be use and it's my fault that I haven't activated it.

To summaries it:

  • Getting none activating key: -1
  • Negative feedback: - 1

TOTAL: -2

Is that fair deal out of this giveaway which I've entered hopping to get a game I wanted?

Feedback is for trades, not giveaways. Mark it as not received and remove the feedback.

Mark not received and just move on. No need to make more drama, not worth your time, with all the you say he say.

Unless you've also given something, it's not a trade.

The 'Not Received' IS the feedback for giveaways, and can negatively affect the giveaway creator.
So there wouldn't be any point in doing it twice anyway.

Put in an 'Other' ticket to see if the two trade feedbacks (and any other giveaway feedbacks you may have incorrectly utilized the trade feedback system on) can be removed- if you get reported for the incorrect use of feedback without you attempting to resolve it, then that'll be a 5-day suspension for you.

Also:
1: If they insist the key is valid, give them benefit of the doubt. Steam is notoriously glitchy.
Do make sure to keep staff updated as you work through it, however, by posting updates in the giveaway thread and through an Other category support ticket.

2: You're getting a free game. You don't actually lose anything. It may be disappointing to realize you haven't actually won something, but noone is taking anything away from you, either.
If the other party has a reasonable excuse, it's generally a more respectable course of action to work with them through the matter, before taking them to call over it.

3: If you're SURE the game isn't working and you don't feel compelled to be generous to the user [say, because their attitude has been poor], then you can simply leave the Not Received.
That'll linger on their account forever [or until you change it], and if the user gets enough of them, they may get in trouble for it.

The creator posted the key in the giveaway comments, it was probably stolen by someone else.

Between that and the conduct insinuated by the OP, it sounds like we're leaning toward option 3, then. :X

Thank you for your post,
I've contacted support and it was confirmed that key was already activated by some one else. I don't think that it was picked up by bot or another user because it gave me the same error 8 hours before he posted it in comments.

I am disappointed but at least I've learned 3 lessons out of that:

  • This is a free games :)
  • Feedback is for trades
  • Steam support does respond.

Steam support, or SteamGifts support? Both are slow, but the first one is just glacial :P

Glad to see you've ended up with a positive outlook after this- some people have a lot more trouble letting go of their disappointment :X

If it makes you feel better, I once won a game, followed through reliably with the creator and with SG, and they still managed to sneak out a reroll from SG support.
So I get how frustrating it can really get. :/

But thankfully, this is generally a fairly rare thing- I've only had that one genuinely negative encounter, and like 4 or 5 'oops, I made a mistake, do you mind cancelling?' encounters.
(Of course, the 4 or 5 of my giveaways that I had issues with, people were just as friendly about allowing me to cancel on- so it's definitely something you see karmic returns on!)

But yeah, so maybe 6 or 7% of my wins are duds?
It's enough that you'll notice it, but if you look at the whole, you're still getting a great deal out of this site, and it's a minor inconvenience compared to that, especially if you can accept that most people it happens with just made simple mistakes, or the matter was out of their control. :)

For example, GreenManGaming is notorious for their key issues.

The key he's talking about is probably the one he (the giveaway creator) posted in the comments and was most likely stolen by some other person/bot. That's what I'm thinking happened.

Indeed, not sure why he did it, but he did.

EDIT: And by he I meant the GA creator.

Based on the creator's post, sounds like he posted it AFTER the winner couldn't activate it. By then, other than the two of them, I can't imagine anyone was returning to look at posts.

Right, but say the creator happened to put in the incorrect product key the first time, and the one he put in the comments was the proper key. There is about 8 hrs time between when the creator posted the key to when the OP replied to the comment with the key in it ... anything could've happened.

Also, it didn't have to be a person, could've been a bot designed to find keys, I know they exist.

He only posted it after the winner told him it's not working. So it couldn't have been tried by anyone else before OP.
EDIT: oops, should read everything... Shame on me...

Well, now that the key has been posted publicly, it's dead. There's no way to troubleshoot the problem to see if it was related to Steam being down, or the winner's Steam client needing to be restarted. I've had problems activating keys before, but once I closed my client and started it up again, the key worked. That's all down the drain now.

To be honest, the giveaway creator seems a bit clueless. But the OP also did a bad thing by leaving trade feedback for a giveaway.

I see that this particular issue has been resolved, but if you wish to know more about the site in general, Please read the FAQ and guidelines. Another nifty tool is the search bar right under the new discussion button that allows you to search for questions already asked such as this one. If you want to have some fun comment formatting is here. Here are some good threads as well.
