As on my first message ( https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/gK8CI/first-message-any-advice-for-newbie-on-steam-andor-steamgifts ) you say you love train: here is a new one:

https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/?????/

  1. Downcase, the second letter of that is most massively useful thing
  2. Downcase, the last letter of the word finded in 1.
  3. Upcase, first letter of the name of someone traveling in the Tardis
  4. Downcase, first letter of the firstname of the president after the destruction of the colonies
  5. Upcase, the first letter of what happen to the Formics

Please comment with your favorite SF book/game/movie

EDIT:

So here is the solution ;)

The most massively useful thing is a : towel
It is wrote in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
You may search in google for "most massively useful thing" to find this information
Or maybe check:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Towel_Day

-1. o
-2. l

Tardis is the spacecraft of the Doctor Who
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TARDIS
Nobody know the name of the doctor...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doctor_(Doctor_Who)#Name

-3. So D or W ... It was W

The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed by the cylon attack
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica
In the 2004 serie, the president is Laura Roslin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Roslin
This one was not so easy (I think)

-4. l

Formics have been Xenocided by Ender Wiggin
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ender%27s_Game
It is the title of the third book:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenocide

-5. X

So final result is olWlX

So you know which are my favorite book and movie (and serie)
I will add Mass Effect as favorite SF game

Words, not letters. Because then you could just guess max 26 times per question.

At 1 minute between guesses, you can figure out why it wouldn't matter.

30 seconds.

But yes, if you still need all 5, it would take a little while, but not inordinately long. Even less if you only need 2 or 3.

I wasn't sure whether it was 30s or 60s, my bad, but if you've gotten most of the answers and want to guess the last one or two letters you could do trying the links without a delay.

OK finally solved. My favorite science fiction book is probably The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. My favorite sci-fi game would be the original Half-Life. And my favorite sci-fi movie would be the original Blade Runner.

I love Alien and Battlestar Galactica. Haven't read that many SF books, I liked Odyssey 2001 and Old Man's War (Scalzi is a fun writer). And there isn't a single SF game I like.

1, 2 difficult for non-English speakers

To be honest, it's incredibly difficult for English speakers as well. The clue is so cryptic and vague that fluency in English isn't really helping any.

Favorite SF book is a toss up between Dune and Neuromancer.
Favorite show is Battlestar Galactica.
Favorite game is Mass Effect (I view the trilogy as a whole, but if I have to pick one then 2).
I feel like there have been so many good SF movies that it's hard for me to pick one, but let's say The Fifth Element because I've loved that movie since it came out but for completely different reasons throughout the years.

Also, your puzzle is quite the puzzle. The very first clue has me stumped.

ok, i think i've solved it all but the 5th. Like others pointed out already, there are just too many options and none of them seem to work... I'll wait for the hint :)

Hey SliwaP, thanks for helping, but that is actually against the forum rules. Only the giveaway creator is allowed to provide hints.

from the guidelines: "If you're taking part in a puzzle, do not leak or hint towards any information that should remain private, such as the game being given away, or the URL of the giveaway."

Please remove all hints asap for it is punishable by a temporary ban.

Which means you might have got 3 wrong too? That's certainly where I'm at because even knowing both source materials there are a lot of options and permutations on them.

That took a bit of brute force finagling on 3 and 5 due to the number of possibilities....
It's hard to pick a favorite so I'll go with some goodies that I haven't seen mentioned yet.
Books: The Postman by David Brin, also his New Uplift trilogy (the original is good too, but the new one is a much more coherent epic space opera). Also I found a new (to me) publisher Angry Robot who's been putting out some quality sci-fi. Check out the Tao series by Wesley Chu. Mort(e) by Robert Repino is a fun take on post-apocalyptic wars, I'm assuming that everyone is also already aware of Robopocalypse and it's follow-ups.
Games: try Bioforge, it's got cyber raptors, beating someone to death with their own arm, you know things for the whole family. Giants: citizen Kabuto has a great sense of humor with it. Sunder from the recent humble monthly is good too, and CryptArk (I've been playing roguelikes a lot because I'm stuck on a potato).
TV Series: Just started up on Happy and liking it so far. Made in Abyss is a good anime. Add in Orphan Black, Warehouse 13, Fringe, and Red Dwarf for some variety and to cover all your SF-trope bases.
Movies: Screamers - campy sci-fi fun. FAQs about time travel, Sunshine, District 9, What happened to Monday?
Yeah sorry I got tired of chasing down links.

Science Fiction

Solved. :D

Above all the great movies out there, my favourite SF is the original Star Wars trilogy and don't think that will ever change. XD

StarGate SG1 and Battlestar Galactica were my favourite SF TV shows.

I read fantasy books as opposed to Sci-fi, so can't name a book in this case.

Very hard to pick my favorite scifi book because I've read (and re-read) so many but any top list would have to include More than Human by Theodore Sturgeon.
Favorite SF game: probably Mass Effect
Favorite SF tv show: The Twilight Zone
And I reaaaaally can't pick a favorite SF movie. Tried. Can't. The Matrix would be high on the list though so there you go.

I've enjoyed the few books I've listened to from Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga, so I'd say that's a current favourite.
