Probably RuneScape at... Checks account statistics there... 123 days and 4 hours (Wow, that's a nice number!). Aka, 2956 hours.
All of that is, of course, from before 7 years ago when they added microtransactions to it and ruined the game. :|

If you mean most played game on Steam, then that. ;P

Probably Top Gear.

Of all time? World of Warcraft, by far

On Steam that is Skyrim with 776 hours. Outside of steam it was a MMORPG called "Runes of Magic" and I racked up about 3.500 hours over the course of several years before I uninstalled it forever....

played some league of legends , also guild wars 2 for ~900 hours , and cabal online for some hundreds of hours like 10 years ago xD
it's really rare for me to spend more than 1k hours in any game though

Really not sure because I couldn't really track time before Steam.
On Steam, TERA with 725 hours (+23 on EU TERA). Not proud of it, but it is what it is I guess.

My most played game on steam is Dead by Daylight with 431 hours.
But my most played game is world of warcraft. Cant count the hours but must be above 30000 hours in 14 years

In my whole life? Baldur's Gate Saga (I + expansion + II + expansion). Finished it 5 times so far.

I guess, that would be either The Sims 2 or Civilization 3.

On Steam, it would be Europa Universals 4. Off Steam, I've played tons of Diablo 2, Civilization 4, Dwarf Fortress, Final Fantasy Tactics, and a lot of an obscure non-graphical MUD.

1st place is i totally didn't leave the computer on all day to idle for hats in TF2 for 3k hours
2nd is Payday 2 at 880
3rd is Killing Floor 2 at 140

2086 hours on killing floor 2. yeah i know...but it's fun every single time!

pretty sure that is my most played in general. i played a lot of minecraft over the years but it can't be this much.

2nd place is factorio with 853 hours. i love it!
3rd place is 7 days to die. 591 hours mostly for achievements. eternal early access piece of shit game.

On Steam, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, 239 hours recorded, plus a probably around 200 more offline hours not recorded, while I was playing the Long War mod.

Before Steam, probably TIE Fighter.

Sid Meier's Civilization 3 Complete. I don't know how many hours I've spent, but for a while I played 3 or 4 300-400-hour games per year. Civ 1 and RT2 also got more than 1K hours each.
On steam, i just passed the 700-hour mark with Arma III.

Second would probably be the Halo series.

Then probably Minecraft

(but playing a game for a "long time" doesn't necessary make it good, plenty of shorter games I favor over the ones mentioned above)

It was TF2 for the longest time at 1,522 hours. But now my most played is Star Trek Online at 2,281 hours.

Of all time would be Zoo Tycoon 1 (Complete Collection) with Civ II right behind that.

On Steam it would be Warlock: Master of the Arcane (much like a very pretty Civ II)

Rocket League 308 hours, I managed to stay away from it for months (at least 5 I think) but the other day I opened it to activate a code that someone posted here and now I'm back at it. Second one is a very distant Batman Arkham Knight with 44 hours, I did grab a DLC for it the other day so I might reinstall it and add a couple extra hours to it in the near future.
I was trying Cities Skylines on origin (free month for access) and managed to clock 37 hours in just two weeks of "casual" gameplay so I have a feeling it will easily become my second most played game as soon as I buy it on steam on the next summer sale.

On Steam it's Path of Exile at 1,439 hours.

Overall it's definitely World of Warcraft. Before Raptr went down I had 5,200+ hours. And that's only what I had tracked. I played a lot before I started using Raptr and for a little while after it shut down. I don't play anymore but I don't think anything I play will ever pass WoW.
