IdleMaster Steam Group

www.steamidlemaster.com

Steam Idle Master 1.4 has been released. This version should automatically update for those that already have 1.3 installed within the next 24 hours.

Here is a list of changes made in this release:

  • Added a new option for idling behavior, where Idle Master will first idle games with more than 2 hours of playtime, then idle games with less than 2 hours simultaneously. This option has been set as the default idling behavior for new installations.

  • Added additional localized languages: Czech, Dutch, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Romanian, Russian, and Thai.

  • Idle Master will now only kill steam-idle processes that have been started by the current Windows user.

  • Idle Master will now fail gracefully if the Enhanced Steam API server is offline when it attempts to get card values for sorting. Rather than throwing an error and crashing the program, it will now simply use the default sorting order.

  • Updated the “Idling Complete” message to indicate that no more card drops are available. This will hopefully reduce confusion for some users.

  • Fixed a bug that caused skipping to the next game or blacklisting the current game to break automation.

A "portable" version is also available for download from http://www.steamidlemaster.com. If you are currently running the portable version of Idle Master, simply download the new portable version and extract the files over the top of your existing ones to update.

You can also force the update by re-running the setup program from the website.

If you encounter any issues, please use the Idle Master discussion board or this thread and I'll do my best to help. Happy Idling!

So, is it better to do the default behavior, or simultaneous behavior?

There's a new 3rd option available in this release, called "Idle games with more than 2 hours individually, then simulatenously" which IMHO is the best option to select generally speaking...because it will begin dropping cards the fastest when staggering in new games to idle while some are already busy idling.

Here are the settings I recommend as default...just copy mine : )

umm "then idle games with less than 2 hours simultaneously" if I have 3 games with less than 2 hours played, then it will idle 3*2=6 hours in 2 hours? That would look a little weird on profile's stats on Steam :D (Did I misunderstood something?)

Yes...it will idle them all at once up to 2 hours (before card drops)...then after 2 hours it will idle each game individually in the batch (for card drops).

As for the Steam Profile, it will always show only one game being played at any given time...even when multiple games are being idled at the same time : )

Exactly as hyperxduel said.

Even if you don't use the app, you can do it manually if you open more than one game simultaneously. Even though steam profile page will only show one game active, it is recording the stats for all of them. The game that you close last will show as the last played game on your profile.

After yesterday's update it doesn't show my status as in-game anymore. Idlemaster idles, looks as it should, but my game activity (or ingame status) isn't updated and my playtime doesn't change also as a result. Anybody experiencing anything similar or does anybody have any idea what should I do? :)

It's probably just a coincidence but the new version is droping cards like crazy right now for me. Just had 8 card drops within 1.2 hours, 1 every 10 minutes

I do have a question - it seems like if I have IM running and I add new games to my Steam library that have cards, it won't pick them up unless I close and reopen the program, and I don't see a way to force it to reload in the UI. Am I missing something? Does it have a timeout where it will eventually load again automatically?

Hi JB, yeah I haven't tested card drops on this new version yet so perhaps it is best to inquire about this on their Steam group discussion board....

It wasn't really specific to this version, just in general, but I'll ask there.

Will you get banned if you idle multiple games include one or more VAC title? Should i blacklist them?

You won't. Why would you? VAC is an online anti-cheat system monitoring the data you send in-game. You can even use achievement unlockers on VAC-protected games.

Are you sure ? I think you will be marked (and maybe later banned) if you use a archievement unlocker on popular Valve multiplayer games like:Left for Dead,Half-Life,Team Fortress and don't forget the Game Devs ! They can also request Valve to ban players.

Unfortunately, I do not know if there's been a few negative examples for this case

VAC was only mentioned when an achievement can give you some in-game reward, and I never heard about an achievement like that.
People may get VAC bans if somebody finds out that their achievements don't match their stats, but achievement unlockers don't even need you to be in game to work.

"...but achievement unlockers don't even need you to be in game to work"

depends on the game.Have you already tried these achievement unlockers with Valve Multiplayer Games ? You could unlock 100 % without any trouble/problems so far ?

No, because I don't play them. I looked into SAM when I needed it for glitched achievements and talking what I remember of the research. There were one-two forums when this debate came up, but nobody ever confirmed to even know somebody who was VAC-banned for unlocking TF2 or CS achievements.

"Fixed a bug that caused skipping to the next game or blacklisting the current game to break automation."

Is this about the fact that if you skip a game, you need to restart the program before IM will idle it again? I hope so, that's been bugging me.

May be best to inquire about this one on the Steam Group slug!

Hey,
i would suggest to change the German translation a bit.

The text "x Stunden seit Aufzeichnungsbeginn" is to long so we can't see how many drops are left for that game.
You could change it to

  • "x h seit Aufzeichnungsbeginn"
    or
  • "x h Spielzeit"
