Hi folks,

I've officially aged 1 year on this platform and I'm honestly really pleased with the overall experience. I think the community in general is great, and I've enjoyed posting weird question gaming topics about pretty much anything.

I've had a really busy week as I've been working on a couple of videos, but I have to catch up to the most recent RPG topic. For those who haven't got a response, please bare with me while I catch up.

Well, I know it's kinda random and weird to celebrate cake days, but I'm willing to do something for you guys once I build up a little bit my whitelist audience. You've probably seen some of my giveaways and that I was showcasing what giveaways I'll be doing next.

If you have no idea, well it was about this one:

YOUTUBE SUBSCRIBERS GIVEAWAY RESULT
250 The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series ✅ 14/09/2021
350 Mafia: Definitive Edition ✅ 06/01/2022
500 Middle Earth Shadow of War Definitive Edition ✅ 21/08/2022
750 A Plague Tale: Innocence
1000 XCOM Ultimate Collection
1250 ???

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that I'm running a set of giveaways and if you want to take part in in I'd be more than happy.

On top of that, I'm opened to give whitelists to people who are willing to share one of their best experience in your favorite game. Like, pitch me a cool moment you had, be it funny or unexpected. If I think it's a cool story, you betcha you'll get my whitelist.

Thank you for taking the time to read through my rumble. If I've upset you, disrespected you or mistreated you in some way, I apologize. I know for a fact that I won't be able to befriend everyone even if I want to, but do know that I don't intend to hold grudges.

Anyway, I hope ya'll have a great week! Thanks for everything!

Happy Cakeday!

My best experience playing was once when we got together with my nephew to play Diablo 3 until we finished it, they were epic moments and when we finished it the euphoria was so great that we had a barbecue to celebrate. :D

My favorite video game moment was when i was playing red faction guerilla a couple days after release and found out I could fly around the map in the husk of an exploded truck just by jumping and tilting the camera the direction i wanted to go. I discovered most of the map that way until they patched it. but that made a big impact on my video game memory.

Added to whitelist regardless if you whitelist me back :D

Congrats on making it to 1 year - I guess I missed the exact cake day, but then again I don't even recall when mine is!

"Best experience in favorite game . . ." hmmmm. I've been playing computer games since the 80s, so let's see if I can dredge anything up.

OK, I got 3 . . .

  1. Playing Starcraft: Brood Wars starting with Protoss, then using a Dark Archon to snatch an SCV and a Drone to have all 3 races, then wiping the opponents out!
  2. Playing Majesty and listening to the different characters when they die ("There's no fixin' this!" - Dwarf; "No fun, at all!" - Elf)
  3. Finishing Warcraft III and watching the animated rock concert cutscene at the end LOL! That one MUST be the best!

Enjoy your future on Steamgifts!

Thank you. You've also missed the giveaway that I was running for the 500 subscriber counter on YouTube. But I'll be doing more in the future.

Congrats! :)

One of my best experiences is simply the whole game life is Strange. I was so invested and emotionally in this game, that there were plenty of "what the hell, that didn't just happen" moments - or choices.

An also one - but this one is a bit blurry since it was more than 10 years ago: Playing Battflefield Bad Company online and getting to know someone there in multiplayer, because in one match we played very well together, revving each other and so on - without mic. From that moment we played online together everytime we saw each other online for a couple of months/a year. Good times :)

Far from being my favorite game, but still one of my favorite memories.

When working on Battleborn, we would frequently have to wipe all save data as new development builds came in (sometimes multiple times a day). There's a Prologue mission that must be played before getting access to any other game modes. The opening cinematic is 5 minutes long, and the mission itself takes about another 15. Because of how often we had to play this level and how long it was, we started tracking who could beat it the fastest. Next thing we know, we have an in-office speedrunning community going, complete with a leaderboard and theory-crafting channels! Every time we thought the run was about as optimized as it could get, someone would manage to blow the previous record away by a solid 15-20 seconds. We initially set a goal to get the run under 10 minutes...then sub-9...then sub-8.

At the point that I left the project, I had the fastest time in the office and since the game flopped hard, it never got a strong public speedrunning community. Which means...to this day, I can still make a claim to fame for holding the world record on that particular level!

Memories like that are really hard to let go. I know how you feel about things. Childhood memories are beautiful when spent with the people you care and love. You got whitelisted and don't worry about English. I am not a native speaker and I can understand you pretty well.

It's not a specific memory, but I'm not sure anything will ever fully recapture the magic of when I was a kid, with all the time in the world and no concept that I was "wasting" it by playing games. I remember stretching out in the sunbeam on the carpet in my room, working my way through Super Mario Bros. on the Gameboy Colour, or later unravelling the story and puzzles in Link to the Past.

Video games felt like such enigmas back then. No walkthroughs to help me figure out what was going on or solve a difficult puzzle, no one else to really talk to about them because I wasn't online yet and my friends didn't play. It felt like anything could happen in these tiny worlds.

This is very true. For some reason games also felt a lot more harder back then because of that. I'm not sure if it was the fact that we lacked walkthroughs and guidelines for some games or the fact that some games really struggled to feel right mechanically or use a controller. I think the biggest challenge for me was not the fact that I struggled with some games, but the fact that I never truly paid attention to the story it was told most of the time and ended up repeating over and over again, just to try once more a different approach. I've repeated games over and over again without being bored and always dropping off games at about the same time I did previously.

Overall, games never bored me if I had to repeat them. There was joy all the time playing them. Now it's not the same. I either finish it or I never pick it up. My patience with games isn't the same anymore. I rather know what happened as I value the story more than the gameplay nowadays. I can go over janky gameplay if the story is truly good.

Overall, whatever games I can recall playing as a child, brings me joy to find them on Steam. Although I'll never play them again, I know for a fact I'll always hold them in my library to remind me where I've started.

PS: Whitelisted.

I'm exactly the same way. I have the small advantage of most of the games I played in my youth being ones that were actually quite good (Nintendo and JRPG classics, mostly), so I know I'll still love them if I return to them now, but it's hard to capture the same sense of entrancement again.

I suppose the flip side of this is that 27 year-old me has access to games that 9 year-old me would have lost her mind over. :)

Oh, 100%. I think because we're now at a certain age and understanding that we look at games with a much more critical look. As a child, you tend to see in a much more magical light.

I think children now are gonna be desensitized with the amount of games you have at your fingertips. Just looking at Xbox GamePass.

One of my best experiences in one of my favorite games would have to be when I first got my Quest Cape or Fire Cape in Old School Runescape. I was a major noob in this game back in the days, so achieving these capes was a huge accomplishment for me. It may not be much to many people, but it remains as something I felt genuinely proud about in a game that I love. It's a shame I had no friends in the game at the time to share my accomplishment with...

(P.S. Congrats on the cake day like 5 months ago!)

Do you still play games like that? I'm playing Melvor Idle which is made by the same creators as Runescape and it's by far my most-played game on my Steam Profile right now.

Thank you! I should have closed this thread to be honest. It has been a while. I think I will do it and make a new one in the future.

PS: I've whitelisted you. 😄
