Hey!

I am in the process of selecting an antivirus software and I realized that some resellers like Kinguin or MMOGA sell licenses for Kaspersky and others for way cheaper than the company themselves. And there's a statement by Kaspersky that those are likely fraud, however I purchased game keys off of many reseller sites and the ones I have good experiences with sell Kaspersky Total Security aswell. The official pack is 49,95€ at their website for 1 device and 1 year, however resellers sell the same package for as little as ~5€, and that seems fishy to me. Could anyone confirm these offers are legit or should I keep my hands off of that?

Thanks in advance!

or just use the built in windows defender. its totally enough if you arent a first timer on the interwebz.
in case you think you need a shitty kaspersky license, forget that and install a sandbox. start everthing where you arent sure within the sandbox and voila you are safe

I'm usually with you on this one. I am a firm believer that the Windows Defender is enough, however from what I know Kaspersky is better at detecting crypto mining malware and such, also targeting the GPU's core for traces of that kind of thing. I am having issues with my GPU and I'm trying to consider every possible straw that might fix the problem

Norton was a good choice for gamers a few years ago because it was kind on resource usage (CPU), but now they're moving to the opposite direction :-/
This, plus the fact they're sneakily trying to sell a more expensive edition each year : i mean they "offer" the upgrade mid-year (really for free or at most less than a few bucks), then when year ends you discover you're unable to downgrade easily and you're asked to pay full price (up to 150€) a 10 PC license even if you only have a smartphone and a PC...
And of course they're not targeting power users and their reputation system is known to falsely flag safe tools as soon as they use uncommon programming.

Don't bother πŸ™‚ Just keep Windows Defender updated.. & Malwarebytes Free version.. will do the job perfectly fine.

The rest is up to you, not typing sensitive information on shady places.

Malwarebytes is really good to find malware etc.
those resell sites ell keys from different regions around the world. (for cheaper price),
from sites like humble bundle or buy keys with a special offer price.
than there are cracked serial keys that are usually official ones that got hacked by database from an company or from the official site itself.

I got my Kaspersky at a dutch site so probably not much help to you, 28 euro for 3 devices for 1 year, i know that sounds way too cheap but i have used it for more then 2 years now.

If you talk about key reseller sites that also sell games such as the ones you named, then yeah they probably use a keygenerator and those will be fake at 5 euro, but as per my example, i don't know how they do it but that is totally legit (as in they work atleast).

No offense to Leon, but i don't believe in that, stuff always happens (by mistake), and if Malwarebytes ever does find something i don't believe the free version will remove it.
I use both Kaspersky and Malwarebytes (not free), it never hurts to have 2 things because sometimes 1 is quicker with attacking/recognizing a threat then the other, it's always better to be safer then to be sorry. ;)

Kaspersky total security also comes with a pasword manager / adblocker.

Thanks for the detailed reply!

I figured those offers for 5 bucks might have been keygens, but if they actually work, who am I to blame? I'll be using Malwarebytes for now, see if that finds anything.

I believe that harmful software always finda a way. I am very active in a few modding communities and I always download stuff that might have been uploaded from infected devices without the occupant knowing so it's bound to happen and I would prefer to be safe, since as of right now there's a big issue with my GPU and I haven't found a solution to it yet but a crypto miner could be one possible explanation.

Kaspersky was recommended to me by a friend who works in IT and has a lot of knowledge, but he wasn't able to determine what causes my problems so he suggested I get a decent AV

I'm an IT guy too. ;)

Often those keys won't work, while with a billion dollar company like Microsoft, one can easily download their products and get cracks or keys that work (forever) but anti virus software (Malwarebytes too) are keeping their licenses locked down tight.
If keys are leaked they are usally deactivated rather quickly especially with Kaspersky, Norton and basically all of them.
Eset used to be less tight and it was possible to get a key that would last, and you can still find keys that will work for 1 to 3 months but that's about it.

What problems you come across, maybe someone can also find a solution here?

I am guessing your GPU works too hard / gets hot why you assume maybe a crypto miner?

Yeah, not gonna fiddle with shady keys, I can afford to actually purchase a proper one. :D

Well, my issue shows in random black screens on both monitors when playing games, usually when the GPU takes a lot of load. But it shouldn't be enough to make it suffer. We're talking games like Rocket League or CarX Drift, maybe the occasional yt video on the second screen. That shouldn't wear a 3080 down that much.. And I did HWMonitor logs and kept an eye on the load in the taskmgr, the GPU sometimes spikes and partially runs on full load even with less graphic-heavy games.
If you'd actually like to help, I'd send you my logs and everything, maybe you could make more sense of it, but only if you got the time, don't wanna be a bother ^^'

Many asked here about their pc problems, what's one more. :p Can always adjust your op (or make a new thread).

First things to rule out, you tried a new windows installation?
And have you got another GPU you could try (or use onboard graphics) to see if it produces the same thing, or that card in another pc? That would be easier to rule out most likely a hardware issue.

Since when did the issues occur? Like is the 3080 new or when you added 1 more monitor? If the setup is the same and that worked for a while then it could be a windows update.

Also download that, and completely clean your drivers, and reinstall your driver, i would suggest not the latest as especially with Nvidia that could actually cause issues such as black screens.
https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

And offcourse try out malwarebytes. ;)

So, I'll just give you the full rundown.

About 2 weeks ago I started getting blackscreens while gaming, usually lasting 1-2 seconds, and on both screens at the same time. This causes some games to freeze and crash, others eventually run on. Open programs on the secondary screen (mainly Discord and Steam) become black. Still interactable, but I can't see what's happening. My browser stops responding visually but you can do stuff, just not see what it is. Once it starts working again without a restart, the link bar goes black whenever you type anything in there. Only fix is to restart the programs each. I updated the BIOS, the chipset drivers for MB/CPU and Windows itself. I used DDU in safe mode and reinstalled the NVidia drivers. So now I'm pretty much out of ideas what else it coulb be. I did a scan using HWMonitor and saved the logs of the time frame where the issue appeared. Could send you those if that helps.

I'm running the following components:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 (Gigabyte)

SSDs: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB & Samsung 850 Evo 250GB

HDDs: WD Blue 3TB (2015) & Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 2x16GB in DIMM B1 and B2

MB: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI)

OS: Win10 Pro 21H1

I uploaded the log dump from HWMonitor but idk if it's alright to post that link in here, as it's Mediafire.

If you need anything else, I'll provide more info.

Mediafire is fine, i might suggest a new topic though, be easier for people to find, there could be just that person reading along that might have had the same exact issue.

So it's more flickers then actual freezes (unless it actually freezes) are you sure the cables are 100% okay?

Again if you got the lastest nvidia driver, try an earlier one, i had some flicker issues too about 3 months ago with my 2080 TI and also fixed it with DDU and another driver, did not have such deep problems as you described though.

And see malwarebytes first too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Alright, I'll create a topic for this, might actually find someone who had this exact issue.

It's a blackscreen. No flickering, just a second of full blackout and then some applications and programs are affected. I also realized today that it appears more the more load the GPU takes. And Rocket League alongside a Twitch stream shouldn't wear this GPU down as much.

MWB is still scanning, so far nothing of significance.

I edited the comment in about the nvidia driver.

Hmm interesting, how is the weather is it hot there right now? Do you feel your pc/gpu gets hot?

Full scan i assume? Malwarebytes will show system stuff pretty fast if it would find something, probably not something invasive on your pc then.

It's been quite dense but not too bad. It's Germany after all, you should be somewhat familiar with our weather conditions :D

According to CPUID/HWMonitor the temps are all fine. And my old GPU never struggled with this either. What I found odd though was that the voltage of the GPU was at 0.725 on idle and the max value stated 0.725 aswell but went up as I fired up a game.

It's found 2 things so far but even while it's been running the issue has occured multiple times now. Running for ~80mins now

also created a separate post, fingers crossed

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah been way too cold for a long time, now i find it a bit too warm though. :p

Do you still have the old GPU else try that again to see if the issue does persist?
Only other thing i can say is maybe bad monitor cables, well or bad GPU. Or try just 1 monitor, my personal rule of thumb if you got spare parts or like use 2 monitors, rule things out what you can, so far don't really got other suggestions.

I will keep an eye out on your thread.

The system was built with this GPU. And the one I used before was sold soon after, basically parted the old one out. I considered changing GPUs with my brother who uses a 3070, but he's literally on LoL whenever he's not at work and my work begins earlier and ends later than his so that's an issue :D

Ask him nicely or punch him on the nose if he doesn't (depending on sizes). :p Or just owe him a favor.

Since the issue appears to come very quickly, you wouldn't need to borrow it that long. ;)

I absolutely not agree. Antivirus has nothing common sense. I know many cases when antivirus deleted legit programs, including adobe photoshop (lol), and even more cases when antivirus was useless agains viruses (and even harmful in some rare cases). Antivirus is only useful if user knows literally nothing about computers, and have zero common sense - in this case, we can say "at least it's something!".

Most amazing thing when you test a malicious file in virustotal is the amount of software that does not detect the risk.
AV software in my opinion just gives a false feeling of security. I chose to stop using any since years, and I'm more cautious than before. Nothing happened to me :)
Of course this is not working for people not comfortable with computer security.

Yes, common sense is the only thing that can gives at least some protection from zero day. Because AV never protect from zero day by definition.

These cheap keys coming from India. Kaspersky offers regional pricing in India. Kinguin or MMOGA resellers buy these cheap keys and resell to international markets. You can directly buy from Amazon India:https://www.amazon.in/Kaspersky-Total-Security-Latest-Version/dp/B08B1SD2HZ/

Anyone who tells you Windows Defender is enough needs to install Norton power eraser or something else for a deep scan.
I personally recommend either Norton Antivirus (used since 2001) or Bitdefender. These are the only two that have never failed me.
Personally would never recommend Kaspersky after they were making viruses around 2008-ish (can't remember the exact period), or weak McAfee, or Panda who installed Adware to drive me up the wall to renew after my subscription ended.

In the end...its your PC and you have to live with your choices. Peace

-Turn OFF All Data Sharing (See Pic) (Optional)
-Add to Exceptions your Games folder (Recommended, because Avast block some games from even starting)

You might wait for Black Friday sales.
Many offer good discounts during those days.
I've used Avira's antivirus for 7 years (1+3+3) and with Black Friday discounts + an additional coupon code found on the internet I've never paid more than 8€ per year, buying the antivirus directly from their official website.
Now I've switched to Bitdefender Total Security (because I don't like Avira anymore since the last version) bought from their site during Black Friday and using an additional coupon code found on the internet I've paid only 17€ for one year license.

long story short before i ask my friend i try couple of antivirus with cracked version first before i decide to buy it (its a shame of course) but it didnt work.antivirus did find the virus and succesfully delete it but the virus keep coming again and again
im even try to reinstalling my system and try different AV but it still keep coming
virus start to attack again after a couple of minutes.and i realized that virus start attacking if i connect to the internet.when im offline im safe.so i ask my friend and he block it via mikrotik
i dont know if this help but in case this might happen to someone

Anyone except FSB-kaspersky. This pseudo-antivirus is a ready-made spyware module that is always ready for activation. It was already in an interview (only in Russian) with the developers of this product, as they told that they were following their users through a webcam, just they was interesting who was sitting in front of the monitor. And then for more than a year they tried to hush up their saying, laughed it off. I hope you understand that the antivirus always has high system rights, otherwise it would not be able to do anything? Enabling/disabling components, starting/terminating, open/hide programs is only the smallest of the capabilities of antiviruses. Therefore, the issue of trust in the company is so important.

Kaspersky is a former graduate of the KGB school, his alleged business is tightly tied to the KGB successor the FSK->FSB. "There are no former KGB officers" - the motto of this "company". This was written and warned by Russian experts on IT forums back in the early to mid-2000s.

And if you don't care, "let the FSB, SVR or someone else use our computer resources," then why do you need an antivirus at all?
Chinese "antiviruses" are the same sheet, but they no one even interested.

You have been warned that low prices and massive advertising for this "product" is just a bait. As the saying goes, Jedem das Seine - "To each his own."
