I'm surprised nobody mentioned Viber. It should have pretty much the same features as Skype did, including a paid option to call people worldwide on any phone number, which is a pretty good alternative to expensive international calls when you want to reach someone who does not have internet - which has become rare these days, but it's kinda cute they still have that option. the fact the OP is dissing discord is kinda nuts lol. most people use discord now days. you dont have to join groups to have it, just send friend invite and say hi, can send voice clips or video chat or share your screen so your friend can watch you do w,e or you can share just the application you have open if you dont wanna share your whole screen

As Skype died i had to suggest something to replace it to for my relatives and of course since i use it myself i suggested Discord. Good UI, amazing functionality and stability and since my elderly mom with poor tech knowledge was able to figure it out with no issue and uses it freely now i'm sure anyone can.
