Reading the thread and let me get this straight - if I buy the BTA, it's all packaged in a way that if I already own Borderlands 2, I'll only get the DLCs and the base will be lost forever?

Yeah I thought so too, however knowing that I will get 4 Headhunters DLC and Clatp Trap DLC I decided to go with BTA tier, it was a better deal than just buying Claptrap's DLC for BL1 afterwards.

Depends what comes to bta next week (I guess what's excluded from the season pass) but now, without the 15 bucks tier you're better off buying the goty when it's on sale if you don't care about the first game.

I thought you got BL1 GOTY for $1 but it was too good to be true, it's still an amazing deal! In BTA they will give away the missing Claptrap DLC and some head hunter DLC for BL2 for sure.
Still Gearbox and Andy Pitchford are greedy as fck for not separating each item, I would buy the BTA if they came separated but I own every piece shown so far, I'm missing the head hunters DLCs though, but it's a waste of money to go ahead and buy the BTA just for small DLCs.

Can anyone give me a good reason not to buy the BTA when I own 0 Borderlands stuff ATM ? I have a ton of backlog and dont really need more games, but this seems to be too good a deal to pass or is there something i have missed ?

I would say buy tier 1, and if you enjoy the first Borderlands, buy Borderlands 2 GOTY later on sale. The DLCs are worth having and it would cost less on sale that buying the $15 tier to have the season pass.

Yes it's a little complicated, Gearbox are DLC scumbags. If you buy BTA then you might want to buy the Season Pass later to get the 4 extra DLC quests, which will cost you around $10 on sale... but you could buy the whole BL2 GOTY for as low as $8 on sale.
SO:
-BL1 + 3 DLC = $1 is not a bad deal, the extra DLC will cost you $2.50 on sale
-$4.50 BTA + $10 season pass = NO GO, better pay the Top Tier instead
As stated by Joachim, pay the $1, play the game for a week and see how much you like it. Then you could spend $8 on BL2 GOTY on a later sale or go with the $15 top tier to get the few DLCs that you'll be missing (claptrap for bl1 and headhunters 5 small dlcs and +11 level cap for bl2)

Thx man - very complicated with all those GOTY/DLC things. I just bought the 1$ tier, I can play around with it and raise it to BTA or Top Tier later. BTA looks like the best deal, but with your calculations it turns out to be better to go for either T1 or T3. Apparently DLCs are quite a big part of the whole BL thing.

No problem. Well it depends how much you like the game, the DLC quests really expand the experience, but specially the first level cap increase gives you WAY more replayability giving you "New game+" and "New game ++".
The extra characters are quite fun too, but play BL1 and decide to either go T3 or BL2 GOTY on sale

I will go for BL2 GOTY eventually. Just to make everything more confusing, when I hit up Borderlands on the Store page I get "Borderlands: Game of the Year is already in your Steam library" with the green button ready to push and all, but when I go to my library it only says I have Borderlands (without GOTY) + the 3 DLCs ???

I think they removed Borderlands (plain) from the store, that's why you get that! But Gearbox is giving away a "Plain" key with 3 DLCs right now, it seems a little confusing I know

Thx to both of you. I think I will buy the BTA afterall, its only 3,32 euros extra for the last DLC for Borderlands 1 + BL 2 and some DLCs. I will try to get the missing DLCs for BL 2 later on a sale or so.

I own nothing from the Borderlands franchise so far but this would have been my most favourite game too. I would have instabought the highest tier if it had Tales from the Borderlands in it.
For now I went with the $1 tier to see for myself if I'm the type of Borderlands player - can't go wrong for a dollar ;)
