I want a gaming PC but I don't have much money- $400- $600. Any suggestions on parts? And what websites are good to look at? Thanks! EDIT: Thanks for the help! One more question, instead of buying a monitor, couldn't I plug the desktop into my laptop?

Check out the forums there, there are a lot of sample builds that you could just copy.

CPU: AMD FX 6300 132$
MoBo: AsRock 990FX Extreme3
115$
GPU: Asus GTX650-E-1GD5 120$
PSU: be quiet! 600W Pure Power L8
90$
RAM: 4 gigs, your choice 55$
HDD: Seagate - ST1000DM003
65$
Tower: Use an old one, if you don´t have one, bother your friends, or anyone who works at an office XD, same goes for DVD
Adds up to ~ 580$ (please note, I had to translate euros to dollars, so slight differences may occur)

Why such an expensive MoBo and such a cheap GPU? Easy, the board allows for upgrades in the future, for example a second GTX 650, or more RAM, meaning relatively cheap ways to boost your system power afterwards. (That´s also the reason for a 600w PSU, besides, never go cheap on the PSU, it´s the most important part of your PC)
Some might argue that 1 gig of VideoRam isn´t enough nowadays, but it is able to display 1080p, if you turn down AA, Reflexions, Shadows, etc each by a nod, and as said before, maybe the future holds another 100$ spare and you can get a 2nd GPU.
Why AMD? Simple, it´s cheaper than a comparable Intel, and it comes with a boxed cooler, saving ~30$. (Fan is a bit loud, but who gives a damn.
If that build is just a few bucks too expensive, go for the next cheaper CPU, but don´t get a cheaper MoBo plx, you´ll regret it.

This won't even even use 500w, and a 990FX is a waste if you don't plan on overclocking which isn't recommended with stock coolers.

FX 6300 for $132 is terrible, you'd be better off getting an i3, and intel CPUs do come with fans.

That's pretty close to my current system

My system specs:

CPU-Z - http://oi60.tinypic.com/2q9awhz.jpg

CPU: AMD FX-6300 4,099.78Mhz(slight OC) 6-Core Processor

GPU: MSI Radeon R7 250 2GB GPU

RAM: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1733(OC'd)

Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD

PSU: Corsair 430W ATX12V PSU

Disk Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer

Network Card: TL-WN751ND Wireless Adapter

Case: Raidmax ATX-238WU ATX Mid Tower

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Monitor: HP LV2011 20.0"

I got all that along with a cheap gaming keyboard (Inland) for less than $750US. (including the monitor and OS)

I haven't found a game in my current Steam library that I can't run on high/ultra settings @720p resolution with less than 50FPS, games usually run around 75-80FPS. My system also doesn't go over 50°C on full load with mostly stock fans (I've added 2 after market fans but I replaced the stock case fans with them, my rig has 5 fans total including the CPU and PSU fan).

Something like this if you're okay using rebates.
Or something like this if you're not

Edit: The original PSU I listed isn't on sale anymore )-:

Those are actually pretty nice builds. (Personally, I wouldn´t go for Intel, but let´s not discuss that :) )
But ermm... mock me for 600w PSU and use 620w yourself? XD
Just kiddn,nice build, tho.

It's the cheapest reliable semi-modular PSU. If there was one lower wattage one I'd recommend it.I really dislike non-modular PSUs which is why I didn't recommend one.

Also what's wrong with intel?

Random example I knocked together here

If you don't need an OS, you can take the money from there and put it in other places
