I feel a little less guilty if I trade for them, rather than buying them.

I just buy games that i know i can run. And generally i take a half of my money and save it till summer/holiday sales.

You can only stop once you're broke. There's no other way my friend. :)

You have to own every game that's on sale. That should help you resist the Steam Sales.

This year I've resisted the Steam sales by being extremely poor. It doesn't work for everyone, and doesn't work all the time, and to be honest, I don't really recommend it. But it can be effective.
Also, I created a budget for myself for 2014. I based it on the amount I paid for all the games I actually BEAT this year.

I like this idea. I've been struggling with myself not to buy games because there are a few in my inventory I bought last summer/recent bundles that I haven't played much at all. Still gonna go buy Dust after posting this though. I shall try to do better... with a little wiggle room because OMG!!! IT'S 75% OFF!!!

This one helped me to stop "want to buy all the games that look kinda good!"
Until now i only bought one Game during the sale (with TF2-Keys wich i got from a "make tasks and get games/steam-stuff"-page) - that also helped too. Its CS:GO and i realy have FUN with it. Feels like the good old time when i played CS 1 on LANs with friends.
Sure, i also want Dragon Age - Ultimate, Skyrim Legendary and all the other good stuff - but then again - the linked article helped.

I just buy games that I think I will play longer then the price of them, Eg. If I see a game that is $10 I would get it if it looks good and if I think I can get 20 hours of game time out of it :P

After a few years I got over it. I don't care as much anymore. If there's something I really want I'll get it, but I usually forgo the spending.
You have to realise that in the Steam sales, everything is going to be on sale again, and likely for an even lower price.

I actually find it quite easy.
I just reason out that I have a massive backlog, and better deals will no doubt come down the line. I'm so mad at myself for getting Dark Souls and Dishonored long before I could manage to play either of them. And for getting indie games when they weren't in a bundle.

I find myself spending way too much money, more than I have / should spend on steam sales.
I'm so OCD I feel like I have to get everything once its in bundles or on low enough sale because one day I "might" want to play it.
Also steam achievements and trading cards add to the OCD factor.
How do you guys resist your gamers instinct collectors OCD?
How do you decide which games are in and which games are out? No matter the sale?
This is especially true due to the upcoming winter sale.
TL;DR - Spending too much money I don't have on games I don't play and gifts because they're on sale. How do I stop?
