If you download it once it remains on your account forever or how does that work?

After clicking in download you're going to receive an "license" of the game that will be yours to keep.
You can check in this link https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses

Yes, but for Chivalry there is no option for "remove". I think those one gives +1 in inventory... :)

I was really disappointed when this left the GOG store before I bought it. Happy to see it here! And free, no less. I wish it would show up in my library, though.

By the way, I'm unfamiliar with these sorts of things, so where would I put that add license text from above? The developer's tools window? From a specific page? :)

That part only applies for ASF users to activate the game via command ;)

How do you run the cmd of asf? I only get the idling but no way of typing text into it.

Sorry, wasn't online anymore yesterday but gladly Tiny already answered most of your question.
Normally you send a chat message to your bot but if you don't have any you could use WCF to issue commands but that seems to be one of the more complicated parts of ASF and I'm not familiar with it because I use chat for commands so it's probably not recommended. But I think there is an easier way to do it by setting a group under SteamMasterClanID and then using group chat to issue commands. But again I'm not entirely sure about that so maybe ask about it in the ASF thread first ;)

alternatively you can use steamcmd and do the same thing (that's how i lazily added my license since i'm in linux and don't even have the install option, nor do i want to setup asf bot properly)

edit: cmd =

steamcmd +login USERNAME +app_license_request 600420 +quit

Also, this works for anyone who has steam client normally installed on windows:

  • duplicate (copy/paste/rename) the steam client shortcut -> right click -> properties

  • add -devmode to the end of the target field, to be something like this

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -devmode
  • Close steam if it's running and start again using this shortcut, now there's a new Console tab on top.

  • Typing app_license_request 600420 works as above

;-)

nice, i didn't know about that way. that's even easier :D

also, for linux the -devmode add will be something like this

/usr/bin/steam %U -devmode
