What is the best game with a summoning class? A class that would basically allow you to summon minions to do the fighting for you.
I'll throw my hat in the ring with Overlord, a game where you're an overlord commanding small little goblins to fight for/with you and solve puzzles with.

Yeah, edited the title slightly.
But yeah, any game where you can do summoning/conjuring. Which one would be the best for that sort of thing?

I was expecting something else :D When I briefly played Ultima Online I visited the Wizards Academy and listened to a single class on Alchemy ingredients. It was quite interesting :D

Vessel is another good one. much like in Overlord there's different kinds of minions that unlock as you progress through the game, but in Vessel you use these creatures (named Fluros) to solve puzzles and you can make them out of different kinds of liquid (which also unlock as you progress) as well as different 'seeds' using different combinations in different situations

and of course there's Scribblenauts where you can summon anything from the games dictionary. want to make Cthulhu fight against Batman? you can use the DC Comics DLC to do that. or just throw a party inviting God, Devil, Atheist, Alien and a ghost-robot-pirate

Scribblenauts is also top on my list for summoning, but not entirely for fighting. Though... the wars you can create can be neat.

Warlords Battlecry's summoning is pretty neat - you can summon zombies to work in mines to boost resouce-output, summon skeletons to morph (instantly transform) into better units, or just straight-out summon a Deathknight or a Demon. Game is a mix of RTS and a strong, upgrade/killtree based RPGish thing. Your mage can make wonders, your charisma based hero can make upgrades and units super cheap while boosting their stats in fight, or make a fighter / assassin and kill everything :)

If i remember correctly, skeletons only morph if you are playing the undead race. Might be wrong though

You're correct, the Undead faction has the upgrade tree - I think they profit the best from summoning, but the opportunity to summon pierce-resistant skeletons against turrets, or workers for mines is a pretty nice stuff for anyone :)

I really loved that game, but unfortunately I couldn't finish it because of the snow bug and the fact that there was no patch for it for my language version. I was really happy when they added it to Steam :D

I heard good things about the Diablo 2's necromancer tree. I should try it out.

For a more modern take on the same idea, Path of Exile has a wide variety of summoning skills. While you can't start as a summoner class per se, it's possible to build your tree entirely around summoning and buffing your minions.

I thought you were going to ask about the best entity that is summoned during the course of a video game. My answer for that is Nicole.

There's a good old game called Chaos Legion from Capcom. You can spawn different kinds of so called "legions" to fight for you and you can upgrade their powers throughout the game .Vice versa these legions also directly influence some of the things your character can do, like special attacks. It's essentially a japanese style hack n slash game, comparable to Dynasty Warriors but Overlord too. The graphics surely are very dated but maybe that doesn't bother you. Certainly wouldn't bother me... :-)

I like conjuring in Two Worlds 2 because you can craft your own spells and potions there so you can make incredibly powerful spell which will cost loads of mana and will summon something really cool.
Also, in Dota 2 there are many heroes who use summoned creatures to win the game =d

If you play as a mage you can summon stuff with items (that only certain type of character can use) and, in some palces, are "summonning things". I can't remember the name, but with a magical character you can summon a spirit. Its also fun because every turn you have to pass a checking and the summoned spirit can't lose control and become hostile.

Shaman, actually.
Mages are more direct damage and scale off Willpower.

Shamans can summon stuff, and they scale off Charisma.

Dark Souls. Everyone is a summoner. And no other title has a summon that is as big a game-changer.

I was gonna say this.
I've had a witch build where I had over 20 minions on screen at all times and during bosses and the more difficult encounters I'd go all the way to 50-60, it was a ton of fun :)

NOX.

It has a dedicated summoner class, which gets its own dedicated campaign. All really good stuff actually, the summoner feels fully fleshed out and is fun to play. The game is also good at giving you new summons at a good rate, so you'll always have something new to play with. Also the game is currently free (but won't be free forever, so grab it before it's too late)

Final Fantasy XIV has a really cool summoner class that splits into an offensive and a support/healing role. That said, the primary function still relies on the player; you end up doing most of the work. Shadowrun games have summoning, but how it looks and works is different and usually it pays to diversify (summoning and machine guns mix well though). I guess it kind of depends if you want "summoners" as in they only summon, or "pet classes" who have a summon but are capable of doing other things also.

terraria has a summoner class of weapons.
Its pretty weak early on, but it gets crazy powerful late game, as minions are immortal and can just wail on an enemy.
The best summoner armor, the Stardust Armor even gives you a free minion that shadows you and looks like a stand from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.

The name and appearance is coincidental; relogic was asked about it and they said as much.

Really? I always just accepted it as fact that it was a Jojo's reference. It looked and felt too spot-on to simply be a coincidence. Still really cool though.

In Skyrim I always summoned guys and used the summon sword, never had any problem with it.

Can't decide, here's a list.
Geneforge series, Dungeons of Dredmor, Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age , Sacrifice

I think if you code well enough you could potentially do so in CodeSpells

Also, not sure about GW2, but in Guild Wars depending on the profession, you could 'summon' by either raising the dead, spirits or with an animal companion.
