I've only been on steamgifts for a little over a week, but I've bought up a bundle and put in a year subscription for the monthly bundle - way more than I spent on games in such a short time before.
I think it's the element of surprise - a higher level means more chances for smaller giveaways - and it's always been easier for me to spend money on other people than myself.

It's a nice atmosphere, like a Pollyanna that goes on all year round

Have you spent more money on games after joining steam gifts, or less?

Hard for me to answer this. It does look like I spent more making GAs but all of them were games that I won't play but were included in bundles, and I usually don't purchase a bundle unless I think I'd play most of the games included. :/

Oh, for sure. I am on a very tight budget and in the past that made me think extra hard about every bundle purchase before buying - since I usually really want some of the games in the bundles I buy - but couldn't care less about the others. I'd deliberate and worry over it for a while before making a purchase, even if the games I did want were heavily discounted. And every single game I didn't want made it harder to decide, because in my mind it was wasteful.

...Hoo boy, now that's gone for sure. Mystery boxes and grab bags are also things I am much less likely to pass up now. My thoughts have switched from scolding myself for spending a dime on myself, to:

"I CAN KEEP THE ONES I WANT AND GIVE THE OTHERS TO PEOPLE THAT WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THEM!! :)"

Knowing I can "play it forward" so to speak, has really really wrecked my impulse control.

oh my god, that is PRECISELY how I feel! The real sense of 'loss' at getting something from a grab bag you don't want is now, like, 'now i gotta be responsible for this unwanted thing', but having a community here like w/steam gifts is that, hopefully, each game will eventually find a home with someone who wants it.

yup, 2 types of game here, bundled or games people love and want to share, so if it's good it will at least end up on your wishless, and if there is a cheap bundle as long as the games are at least somewhat good it's often a buy, just check the negative reviews on the games before you buy steam has a lot of asset flips and abandoned alphas

Same tbh, my backlog is already big enough and most games I really want are too expensive for my budget.
So might as well give away some nice games on discount / bundle spares for some karma (and level). :D

I have, but as long as anyone says thanks or I make someone happy by gifting a wishlisted game I have no regrets about it.

I've never spend any out of my pocket money, yet I did start spending a lot which I got indirectly.
