They're far cheaper on gog

Beware that these will feel really rough these days. They're important games, or the first one is at least, and helped pave the way for games like Resident Evil & Silent Hill, among others, but are they still fun without any nostalgia goggles? Well, I did not think they were fun these days, even with nostalgia goggles.

GOG versions are far better ports to newer OS's than Steam's. This trilogy being released today on Steam, must run properly on Windows 10.

For the GOG version, they just use an emulator, rather than releasing full on ports. I would be surprised if these are any different

Oh, I expected a proper game port.

That's a lot more expenisve to make, and Dosbox works well enough. Actually, dosbox probably works better than most ports, and you get compatibility with a wide range of operating systems that way.

They are great games. I played them in the 90s and I should still have the first two around on CD. But 15 euro/dollar it's a bit expensive for games that are almost 25 years old. Especially when you can buy all of them for about a third of that price on GOG.

Simple: if you substrated the price of Alone in the Dark (the 2008), the trilogy is at 5$/€ . BUT Atari/Infogrmmes looked for money in order to avoid another bankruptcy. So they linked all for maximaze the profit (in theory...)

For someone who has interested, wait next week: I don't be surprised to see a deal on this during the Winter sales.

I remember playing Alone in the Dark on my original 486 gaming PC and they were a big thing at the time - both memorable and influential. But with their graphics and controls they aren't the kind of games that would have aged very well. It's worth mentioning and they might be slightly interesting for people with an interest in gaming history, but I'm not feeling any urge to tackle them again - and I'm usually someone who gets really nostalgic about old games. And that is quite aside from the fact that those Steam versions seem pretty overpriced...

Too expensive for game so older, i play Alone in the Dark on my IBM PS1 (some kind of 286Mhz), also old DOS game released on Steam are not "commonly" well "optimized" for Windows7/8/10 x64.

Already own on GOG, where they were cheaper, and if this is like previous AitD titles, the place you want to go for working games. Had nothing but problems with AitD on Steam. Atari has done lazy releases of other AitD titles that have all been broken so far.

Loved them when they first came out. The first game was something I'd never seen before.

3d graphics, cthulhu themed horror and survival... WOW!!!

The nostalgia is strong with this one but I remember struggling with the controls in the past and unlike other classics I feel playing it today would not be the same. I might try it someday... but this package is way overpriced and it's better to get it on GOG.
