I'm a bit shortsighted, so I have to use the site zoomed in, so much so that on giveaway pages, the number of entries is pushed just below the part of the page I can see and I have to scroll down. Which is especially annoying when navigating long trains, but it's pretty darn inconvenient in general as well. This would be solved by moving the banner ad below the box with entries/comments, and the ads themselves would still be almost completely visible even while zoomed in.

Until today I solved this using an ad blocker, which is unfortunate because the ads I got on this site were way more relevant to me than usual. Anyway, the ad blocker caused the entries to move up into the empty space left by the blocked banner. But as of today, the empty space remains empty, and the entries stay where they are, out of sight until I scroll down.

It'd be great if this gets solved globally, but if not, is it feasible to make a script that does this on the user's side?

Running an experiment on the homepage and giveaway pages to move the advertisements that are above the sidebar content to below the sidebar content. Seeing how revenues compare, and if we're able to relocate the advertisements lower so they're less annoying. Conclusion: No, we can't move them.

There seems to be a problem with the way the reversion mentioned by cucoo has been implemented, leaving a large blank space when you use an ad blocker that didn't used to be there (even before the experimental relocation of ads).

I found that I can work around it with uBlock Origin at least by right-clicking on the empty space and selecting "Block Element" (it adds a filter "www.steamgifts.com##.sidebar__mpu").

And sorry, there are reasons why people may find ads just too obtrusive, no matter how much we may value this wonderful site. (I'd much rather make a small donation directly.)

this site already works fine, cleaver design with cleaver ads, and seriously, the comments/entries buttons are pretty useless
I'm glad enough that SG is not filled with fake dates pop-ups or invisible labels with bet websites links
