Autumn Sale starts today, but it doesn't mean Winter Sale event can't leak. (Unless there's autumn sale event this time?)

Looks like we will be voting games for awards in multiple categories instead of discounts in "Steam Awards"

        $Dialog.append( $J('<div/>', {'class': 'steamaward_nomination_learnmore' }).append( $J('<a/>', {'href': 'http://store.steampowered.com/faq'}).text( 'Learn more about the Steam Awards' ) ) );

doesn't work yet :(

        $Dialog.append( $J('<p/>', {'class': 'steamawards_nomination_intro'}).html( 'Which award would you like to nominate %s for?'.replace( /%s/, appname ) ) );

Steam Awards a.k.a: which upcoming AAA game will you upvote the most before you give it a Mixed Steam rating and move onto the next AAA game that you hype up and eventually never play?

Modern gaming culture.

Thou some of the recent AAA titles really deserve mixed reviews if not worse.

I am more concerned that more and more deserve it. Last two years, it seemed like publishers finally realised that PC gaming can have more money in it than consoles and the industry moved to good directions. Now, this year is full of half-assed hack jobs where they shit out something that manages to start up on PC but they obviously skipped any and all quality control. I can and totally expect it from the likes of morealless money-grabbers like Bethesda, but 2K about to go down the shitter was mildly surprising. They just used to fund the wrong games in the past. Major publishers are somehow convinced themselves ( or they are trying to convince us very hard ) that console market is dominant one. Which it might be to some extent but nowhere as much as they are trying to paint it. And all recent AAA releases having so much technical issues shows that they are determined to still force all the player base onto consoles which clearly wont happen since PC player base is growing. How long it willtake them to adapt? Dunno. Maybe they will try to their last breath to make us all a console peasant...

P.S . Then again,publishing is a pure business . They only care about quantities and profits and to develop for console is easier than to develop for a PC so they are naturally dragged to 'path of least resistence' and try to take us with them as well.

Thing is: PC alone is as big as the two We Are PCs For Really Dumb But We Call Ourselves Consoles and the one actual home console manufacturer's market put together. Only mobile gaming will be larger or is already larger. Still focusing this much on consoles when the market trend is clearly going the opposite way is dumb, even from purely business perspective.

Dont get me wrong, i'm as baffled by this as the next guy but sometimes i just try to understand or invent some reasoning behind all of that. There should be some? Should there? ...

Don't forget, we are talking about marketing departments here as well. You know the saying: if you are too stupid to do anything, be a politician. And if you are too stupid to be a politician, be a top-level manager. And if you are too stupid to be a top-level manager, go to marketing.

They are often the ones who determine release dates and schedules, sadly.

Makes sense. Unless bad PC ports are not because of time limits ( in this case release this shit faster cause we need money ) but to attempt to force people buy their little bad pcs called consoles. But i guess i'm starting to sound like conspiracy theorist here :D

For large-scale sales, consoles should be more profitable, because the ridiculous fees you have to pay there (royalty, distribution fee, digital distribution fee, patching fee, etc.) are small compared to the much higher average unit price. PC gamers expect stuff cheaper, but even Valve's now-unmasked greediness with the distribution fees (>30%) are smaller in percents than what Sony wants.
Technically, both pseudo-consoles have fixed hardware and software, so testing is easier. PC technically only needs DirectX or OpenGL tests, but in reality they need to check both CPU and all three GPU types and at least 3, but up to 5 OS kernels. DX12/Vulkan should help a shitton to reduce it for Windows, but it will never go away completely.
Of course, nowadays the deadlines are so strict and games are getting so complex that even console games need Day 1 patches and still can crash all the time.

'Path of least resistance' :)

Then you look to those rare occasions of AAA game releasing in complete state and you can see that they had nothing to do with any of the big publishers. Yes i;m looking at you witcher 3 ,you beautiful beast

And yet people still rush to preorder the next Shiny Big Thing and then be surprised when it is revealed to be trash. Time after time. Bonus points for DLC milking.

I really miss the old 8-hour flash deals (meaningless because of refunds now) and the community voting (still viable!) of older sales - I hope they'll try to make a more active sale for now / for winter than a clicker game :\
