Steam problems redeeming Dead Island Epidemic

I'm trying to redeem "Dead Island Epidemic" from a friend gift but when I click on "I already have steam" I get stuck with a popup on steam saying "Looking for license updates..." (or something like that, i don't have it in english). What's up?
It does the same thing also when clicking on "Play Now" on their website.

I don't have a key, it's a steam gift. I don't think it's something related to them actually, but rather to Steam itself.
I just tried to click on Play Now on their official website and does the same thing.
