Whenever someone says thanks on my giveaways i usually gift them an extra game after the giveaway ends or a dlc for that game which they've won, so its basically their loss if they dont say anything

This is the best way to go about it.
If you spam 'thanks,' and it helps you sleep at night, good for you.
If you respond to the giver's 'check out my youtube' or 'what do you think of my band' or 'please check out my website' and reply after checking it out, or at least take the time to re-type the giver's name in your 'thanks' message, or leave a comment on the game, Thank you! I think a more real interaction is better than spamming the comment box with the same increasingly meaningless feeling word.

you don't always have to just say "thanks" you can be a bit more creative than that.
but I think leaving a note saying something that your appreciative of a goodwill gesture goes a long way.
also being more active instead of just a lurker does have some benefits.

I agree, if we add something creative other then "thanks" its much better

Same here. When I read comments on my giveaways, if someone says "Thanks, I've been meaning to check out this game" or even "Thanks for the opportunity" that's more interesting to read than a single word "thanks".
Anyway, I wouldn't want to force anyone to post on my giveaways. I would never read through a thousand thanks messages on a public giveaway. Similarly I don't normally comment on giveaways I enter, unless I have something to say, either seriously or jokingly, or I think the giveaway is special (such as Skyrim, as opposed to yet another copy of Rochard).

To be real i make giveaways becouse of those "thanks" in the comments. It`s just a good feeling that some really like the giveaway and are thankful for it.

I completely agree with you Snake. Every time I won, I thanked the gifter personally, that is I think more sincere than posting
another "thanks" among 100+ rest of them under the giveaway. Besides, who's happy if someone thanks him just because
it's obligatory?

The person is using his/her money to create a giveaway and give you a chance to get a free game. Ungrateful people like you who don't realize the fact that these games are not free cannot appreciate their generosity. The least you can do is say a small thank you to the person who went out of their way to create giveaways.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah being grateful is spamming thanks, without creativity on it at all.
-_-
Comment has been collapsed.
Something so small as a "thanks" can make a difference. If no one says thanks then you think we would still get giveaways? Of course, you should try and be creative with your thanks also.
Comment has been collapsed.
I make giveaways as a thanks, you of course all is left for you is saying thanks.. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I apologize. Didn't go check his profile. But what about people who don't have the money to make giveaways? What can they do as a form of appreciation? Say thank you of course.
Comment has been collapsed.
He does realize these games are not free, he gifted 72$ of games himself. That's his form of saying thanks to community. His point is that spamming "Thanks" doesn't really help anyone. I don't really care about comments on my giveaways as long as the winner was grateful, he's the one who got the game after all.
Comment has been collapsed.
Thank you, thats what I exactly mean, as long as the winner is grateful and kind, thats what matters for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
So are you saying that people who do not win shouldn't be grateful?
Comment has been collapsed.
They are unlucky and need to try again, and my answer to your apologize above, is that if you dont have anything else other then saying thanks, is being different then others, I dont say "Dont say thanks" I say being creative, saying something funny/interesting, or a simple "thanks for the opportunity" is much better then an another thanks.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh I thought you meant just thanking the person in general not like the word "thanks".

If the entry count is bigger than the comment count in my giveaways, then I have failed.
Comment has been collapsed.
There is nothing "retardish" about saying thanks.
Comment has been collapsed.
spamming it with no creativity on it, just for the hell of it is imho "retardish"
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh so in order to really mean my thanks, I have to be creative. Ehh....No
I say a simple "thanks" all the time in everday life. Can you imagine.... "Oh I really wish to thank you so much for holding the door open for me and I will show you my appreciation by performing this modern creative dance for you....la la la...la la la....la la la...."
;-)

I thank in advance in nearly every second giveaway. For me it is about good manners and he takes his own money that we have a chance to win a hopefully great game. And currently I am trainee so I dont have the money to buy all the games on my own. I only enter games I really want to have, like all the Plants vs. Zombies giveaways. I hate it more when ppl enter giveaways even they dont know the game, dont like the game or just want more games in their gamelist....but when I am done with my training and earn good money I will enter some giveaways, too!
Just saying! :x

Well yeah those who dont make giveaways should somehow show gratitude, but If I make myself giveaways, I dont see why I MUST write "thanks", i would understand "This is a nice game, thanks and good luck everybody" or something.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not exactly thanks, but just post on the giveaway.
Personally i'm not too fond with saying the same thing over and over again, but on a group giveaway, to see like 30 entries and no comments, it would look like every member is there just to leech.
Posting thanks or anything else on a group giveaway is a good way for people to get to know eachother, personally when i started coming here i used to see some strange dude posting on every giveaway i entered, i didnt know him by then, he was lokonopa, same thing happened with alot of members here and some groups i'm in.
Comment has been collapsed.
On group giveaways, making a group giveaway is a way to show thanks as well, especially those chat raffles :P
Comment has been collapsed.
Yup, but chat comes and goes, a comment however stays there.
(Not trying to justify anything, just replying to your comment).

Sure, you're welcome to reply your toughs, thats the point of my thread :D

It feels so forced that it has lost almost all meaning. However, I generally say thanks when entering a giveaway. Sometimes I'm in a bit of a rush and forget to, but if I win I try to be very pleasant and courteous.
Comment has been collapsed.
I agree. Same as in keeping the door open for someone else. No need to say thanks in that case. The person keeping the door open knows that you are thankful. Actually, it is even more redundant when I think about it. The person coming to the door knows that you would keep the door open, and would thank you for it, so you don't even have to do it in the first place. Just keep going, let the other guy open the door him/herself.
Keeping the door open is so forced that it has lost almost all meaning.
I also like how people have time to check out the giveaway and press "Enter to Win!" button but not for writing that way too long (as criticised here) "thanks" text. Damn all those babies in burning buildings that we just have to keep rescuing.

Your assuming that everyone pays attention long enough to the giveaway page. Ive seen LOADS of giveaways filled with PAGES of thanks with the description reading "Fake, dont enter!" or some such. Also seen a few giveaways with the desc of "Be creative, dont post a generic thanks".
Comment has been collapsed.
Meh, it's usually interesting for me to read why someone entered a particular giveaway, but a short thanks, that will take like 2 secs of your time, will do. I'm not a game collector and I'm certainly not rich lol. I have to work to pay the gifts and I have to give them to random people I usually haven't spoken a word to. I really don't think that that's asked for too much. I admit that I've forgot to write it on the giveaway site a couple times, too. But the comment to entries ratio in public giveaways is often <= 0.1 nowadays That is embarrassing imho
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I also have to work to make my own giveaways :P but I agree with u, in a creative form that is, just posting thanks on a game u wont even play is: -_-
Comment has been collapsed.
Hear hear! Exactly why we need to say thank you to these kind people.
Comment has been collapsed.
Faulty analogy, since if I hold a door open for someone, I expect at least a trace of acknowledgement and gratefulness.
Comment has been collapsed.
How it is faulty? Are you saying that not a single creator of a giveaway would expect "a trace of acknowledgement and gratefulness".
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm saying that if someone doesn't say thank you, or at least smile at me, if I hold a door open for them, the chances of me ramming their faces through the next door on their route just increased by a small amount. It may be a common courtesy to hold a door open, but it's also common courtesy to say thank you when people do nice things for you, however small. Given that creating a giveaway is considerably nicer than opening a door and most likely cost that person a not-always-inconsequential amount of money, not saying thanks makes me a little irritated, especially if you happen to win it. I'm not saying I'll demand thanks, just that they're very nice to recieve and that if you don't I'm going to beat you to a fucking pulp and steal your wallet to buy more games.

if its a public giveaway, ignore it.
if its a private with few entries, a thanks wouldn't be a bad move.
if its a group giveaway, which is limited to a few amount of users, same deal with private then.
if i win a giveaway, i personally say thanks to the person who gifts me the game.
if i make a giveaway, i dont give a damn if people say thanks or not in comments, i just hope they say something nice or even a smile when i add them & gift them the winnings, as i've met people that accept my friend requests, take their winnings without saying anything, not even an "Hey" sometimes... which is kinda retarded, makes me think twice about making giveaways to strangers next time, doesn't stop me from making more though...
Comment has been collapsed.
It doesn't take that long to skim through the comments, find out which ones are thanks and which ones are saying a little more. I appreciate thanks, personally, but I can also completely ignore them if I'm reading the comments to answer questions.
Comment has been collapsed.
"Thanks are retarded". I wonder how your parents raised you hmm?
Comment has been collapsed.
When i make giveaways seeing thanks just makes it worth it to put the game out and i personally add the winner when they win instead of just emailing them
Comment has been collapsed.
Some gifters like to read all comments, some are just interested in having X amount of comments, no matter what they say, and some don't care at all. In any case, it only takes a couple of seconds to say "thanks", or whatever I want to post, so why not?

Lol nada acerca de saber inglés tiene que aver con mi topico, estas loco? LOL!

Lo que le jode, que me parece logico, es que de los 100 comentarios, todos digan "gracias" como si se tratara de un script..... a mi personalmente me importa un huevo.

Someone telling me that I must post thanks on a giveaway that I enter.
Is it really to get spam of "thanks" on a giveaways? I find it quite retardish.
Being polite one of his arguments, mine are saying thanks personally when I win, or making giveaways myself as a shown of gratitude to those who make giveaways.
Edit: My point is that just saying thanks of where everyone already said so is stupid, a little creativity would be good.
Edit2: Thanks for all comments, If I make giveaways in return of joining giveaways, its a symbol of saying thanks, some of us really dont care to receive "thanks" on a giveaway, if only the winner is grateful and kind, all is fine. :)
Edit3: As I said thanks for comments, no need to comment more unless with each other.
