Someone telling me that I must post thanks on a giveaway that I enter.

Is it really to get spam of "thanks" on a giveaways? I find it quite retardish.
Being polite one of his arguments, mine are saying thanks personally when I win, or making giveaways myself as a shown of gratitude to those who make giveaways.

Edit: My point is that just saying thanks of where everyone already said so is stupid, a little creativity would be good.

Edit2: Thanks for all comments, If I make giveaways in return of joining giveaways, its a symbol of saying thanks, some of us really dont care to receive "thanks" on a giveaway, if only the winner is grateful and kind, all is fine. :)

Edit3: As I said thanks for comments, no need to comment more unless with each other.

I think it's better to say thanks on a giveaway than say nothing. It's common courtesy, if you don't know what that is then I guess I don't know what to tell you.

The problem is you don't know who wants thanks and who doesn't. It's better to thank them then not thank them. I don't just say the same "thanks" and generally I try to spice each thanks up.

I preffer to thank and be thanked. If the winner doesn't thank me I don't even feel like giving the game to him....

I gave some thought to why I don't care about thanks in public giveaways and like them in private ones, and came to the following conclusion:

Public giveaways are like giving to charity. I donate some money, or in this case games, to a pool from which people then get it. This is what this site lives on. I don't know the people, they are random strangers who apply for the games. Therefore I don't want or expect to get their thanks. I didn't do anything in particular for them any more than I did for any particular cancer patient if I donated to such a cause, or if I gave away old appliances so that people can pick them up. The site is the charity organisation and the people should thank the organisation, preferably by giving back.

When it's a group or private giveaway, these are people who I have some affiliation with. If someone reached my private giveaway I have some respect for that, or if it's a group giveaway it's someone who shares something with me (theoretically, I'm not in any group). I gave the game to the particular people who share this something with me, and therefore their thanks are more meaningful and appreciated.

An excellent conclusion, and one that makes a whole lot of sense.

Personally I think the whole wall of thanks thing is silly, but that might just be me. I'd rather say/receive thanks from the person that I recieve the gift from/wins the giveaway. Then again, I'm the kind of person that chats a bit while trading items and games and such with people. So I might just be looking at it from a more... entrepreneur-ish standpoint, like the little mom & pop shops that form bonds with their clientele. The gigantic walls is like going through the 'Have a nice day' 'You too' routine at the grocery store or something, you just kind of fall into it, I like looking for the connection formed when giving/receiving something rather than joining in with a group of thousands trying to win a single copy of something. :c Hell, even if you don't win, sometimes you can strike a conversation just out of curiosity. But... eh, initiative, I 'spose.

Wonder if Zo should add in a "hide thank you comments" feature into his addon.
