Yes, you are way late. Any remaining copies likely are higher priced now.

Weird that I already have the base game but Steam lets me get the Deluxe edition to take advantage of the lower price compared to buying the season pass alone. Is that a new thing?

Comment has been collapsed.

Might be a bug in your region? Mine is normal - the deluxe is $2 more than the season pass, I have base+2 dlcs but not the season pass - and apparently gamebillet has the season pass at 66% off atm.

I see the same (EU1)... Deluxe at 83% off is E14.44 for basically the season pass (have the base game); the season pass alone is a better deal at 50% off for E12.49. Just not good enough of a deal, pity ;)

edit: GameBillet has season pass for E7.99 as SnowyK suggests.

Only missing one of the DLCs and they only have a 50% discount so I think I'll keep waiting for it.

It's almost staple at this point to have dlcs for any game only ever at 50% discount :( I was lucky to win one dlc key from a stream.

Does Dark Soul 3 have story that requires me to play previous Dark Souls (1 and 2)? Thanks.

The short answer is no. I started on 2. Haven't played the others yet. Each game is in its own time period.

There's plenty of references to DS1 and a few to DS2, but they are not required to play DS3. Even if there are some characters from DS1, the concept of "story" in dark souls games in general is pretty vague.

I would still play them in order, but there's no need to do so.

Why does a 4 year old game still have a base price of 60€?

It's not really a good deal, 10€ for this 4 year old game, it only seems like it due to the artificially high discount. If you're interested you can get it from GameBillet for less, anyway.

DS3 support 21 9 monitor?

Not officially (unless they changed that in the meantime), but it was an easy fix (hexedit). I played the game in 21:9 without any problems. But that was shortly after release, better check the current status on the forum.

Main game is 83%, season pass is 50%. As much as I love Dark Souls, but this is typical DLC scam pricing. How can the DLC be worth nearly as much as the base game...

As you say the typical dlc pricing.... And never gonna see a free copy if you buy the complete edition.
At least DS3 dlc are quite good

The value of the base game in this sale is about $2. This is the main reason I try to avoid buying games until I can pick up the complete package.

Complete packages are the scam, if you ask me. You may think you get a better deal by waiting 4 years and getting "the complete experience". But you can also see it this way: you buy at a time where the game has long lost most of its value. And they charge you double for a few percent more content. Sure, the DS3 DLC is actually good, which you can't say about a lot of the DLC out there. But still, even now you pay a premium for comparatively little extra content on top of the base game. More so even than on release, if you compare relatively.

Full disclosure: I actually own the DS3 season pass. Hope that doesn't come across the wrong way. ^^ Had I not already bought it on release, I would maybe have gone for it now. I am not saying I never buy overpriced DLC, you know. I am weak like everyone else. But I think I still have the right to complain about shitty pricing like this. Especially long after release when they start charging way more for the DLC relatively than for the actual game.

No worries. I don't have a fixed price limit or something. I like to get all the content for a game, well except the most obvious scams these days, and I don't mind waiting until it's at a price point I'm comfortable with.

Everyone needs to find their own comfort level when it comes to these things.

To that I agree.

I am just about the opposite. I don't buy DLC most of the time, since the base game already gives me plenty of content. And I would like to be done with a game at some point, so I can go to the next one. That, combined with the absurd DLC pricing, makes it easy to skip almost all DLC. ;)

Permalink

If I made purely logical choices about buying games I'd probably skip DLC as well. Hell, I'd probably stop buying games all together since I have plenty as is. I'm not at all concerned about finishing games though and that is probably also a major part of why I don't really shy away from DLC. I tend to jump all over the place with regards to the games I play, and how much I play.

Yeah, logical choices... as someone who has actually bought 50-60€ games and then never played them - multiple times! - I guess it's fair to say that I also have not picked the logical choice every time. ;)

I know we were already finished with our discussion. Just wanted to add this current example, as I think it shows the problem beautifully. Base game for 1.47€, Complete Edition for 9.19€. That's more than 6 times the base price, for probably not even close to 2 times the content. :/

Ouch. Glad I already bought the game. Not that I've had time to play yet. Some day though.

Don't worry about whether the discussion was finished or not by the way. It's refreshing to actually be able to talk about gaming related stuff as opposed to flaming or constantly going for the least charitable interpretation of whatever opinion that seemingly deviates slightly from ones own :D

I am so annoyed that I have the game and both DLCs, but it doesn't show me as owning the season pass. Is there anything more to the season pass than just the two DLCs?

Permalink

From the store description, no, it is just a way to buy the DLCs with a discount.
