So I want to uninstall a few of my games, mostly Visual novels, and these tend to not get steam cloud but I don't want to lose my saves. im running a back up right to be safe. Is there a steam feature that allows you to backup ONLY save files, or does everyone just backup their games on an SSD. The obvious thing would be for me to manually copy and paste each save but just wondering if theres a quick fix.

Just to be on the safe side search and copy the game folders from C:/Users/Username/AppData/..

Common folders to check:
C:\Users\USER\Documents\GAME_OR_COMPANY
C:\Users\USER\Documents\My Games\GAME_OR_COMPANY
data on C:\Users\USER\AppData and sub folders should be (in theory) game config, not save data.

Some games do store saves in AppData

There are many paths that I've seen games use for saved games, including AppData in both Roaming and Local folders, <WinDrive>/ProgramData, <UserDir>/Saved Games and some games save in their own install directory too.

Some examples: SPAZ saves in ProgramData, Space Engineers saves in AppData/Roaming, both PayDay games save in AppData/Local, Crysis 2 and Risen save in <UserDir>/Saved Games...

There's also <Steam>/userdata/<yourID>/<gameAppID>/ which can store saved games, screenshots, settings, whatever the game wants.

Don't you keep your saves when uninstalling anyway?

not unless the game saves it somewhere besides the steam folder. Some games don't have cloud(mostly the ones without achievements) so VNs and one is bioshock 1 which is AAA and it don't have cloud.

You can see which games have cloud support if you list your library as a detailed list.

I've used Gamesave Manager to backup my saves, just make sure you see the games that you really want to backup there.

Usually saves aren't deleted when you uninstall a game, but it's better to be safe :}

You could use your Dropbox/Google Drive folder as the default savegame folder.
