This round I managed to refresh in time to see most of the buttons in glorious green, yet I failed to click any of them fast enough. Feels like I should be inhumanly fast if I want to get any games.

They're gone in milliseconds. Only reason why actual people are getting anything is pure luck. They were just a little bit faster than the bots for whatever reason that time. Total fluke nothing more.

Yeah, it's a total shitshow. Last week you had to be there during the first few seconds but you actually had enough time to scroll down and click, now it's not even enough for my brain to process what I'm supposed to do.

But how could bots claim almost all keys, when the giveaway was protected with CAPTCHA?

I think whether you see the green buttons or not may be dependent on how close you are to their (polish) servers. I'm in UK and see them just about every time, but judging from your profile you're from Argentina right? ..I think you might just be disadvantaged by default here... :(

No need to talk about bots !!! The same results can be achieved with many people and too small amounts of keys. Kinguin is 100% responsible for all this mess, because they do not have enough keys to give - and yet they knew how many Ninja Krowns were ready to be spent by their users. They did not even increase the cost of the keys to limit the problems. In fact, these problems do not bother them so much as long as people are coming to their shop through this event..

Even bots have better things to do than sit around all day trying for a very small chance at a free game.

Personally I believe Kinguin is doing a bang up job destroying what's left of their reputation. There's no way that frustrating potential customers like this is going to be beneficial. A lot of people would never return to a brick and mortar store if they left upset once and most wouldn't return after a second time, much less a third or fourth time. Yet here's Kinguin upsetting and angering a lot of potential customers every hour for the entire weekend. Sure the number of accounts goes up, but what's the point if those people are just there to get free games and never bother coming back to buy something because they were frustrated or worse yet angered because they felt like Kinguin was wasting their time.

It's hard to speak out against somebody giving away free stuff, but because supplies are so limited and demand is so high they're causing more trouble for everyone than it's worth.

This week Is just dissapointment, all the 3 days of this week i didn't got any key. kinguin is a good reseller but this week is so frustrating.

I suggest to the next giveaway give one game per account or give a large amout of keys (games around 1- 2 dollars).

This prevents suspicious bots and make the giveaway more apreciated by others users, increase the krows price is good too.

Nice idea, but the bots are on people with multiple accounts. That's how they get them so fast.

"Ninja Krowns is the new free currency of the digital age.
With NJK you can grab digital content from your favourite games for free!"

The only way they can salvage something from all the bad feeling they've built up is to do something nice for everyone who hasn't been able to use their coins.
Maybe even just for the accounts who've actually bought stuff from them in the past.

Though it's not just these guys ,Steam has been awful too with that grand prix waste of time.
The only people who seem to benefit are the richest or those with an obvious advantage.

The average user is just left in the dust ,which is not a great way to be treating ALL of your customers.

If they want to mess with the bots, they might want to try randomly shuffling around the location of the "claim" buttons and toss in a "click the wrong spot twice go back to the captcha screen" function. Make it so only a human can identify and click the button.

So we dont know if there are bots probably there are some. But i managed to grab 2 games this weekend. I tried it like 10 times in total. I refreshed the page half a second before 00 and did not spend time scrolling and reading the page. I zommed out so i can see all games. And clicked the first thing i liked. I focused on the bottom row. I believe lots of people did it with similiar strategies and wooop all keys are gone in milliseconds. We all act like bots in that moment. Or we have to act like some. And if you are a Gamer you should be better than bots. LOL

Not 100% guaranteed to work. Maybe 1% chance. I tried it and still lost out on everything as refreshing came up as all sold out even with 59:59 on the clock.

Comment has been collapsed.

Same, I was even luckier once and saw the clock at 1:00:00, and still everything was sold out. (I tried only twice so far though, the time wasted without even knowing if there are actually games I like is not worth it for me)
I guess his luck was a mix of rare coincidences, like many bots running out of points after some GAs, and them starting from the first game on the list.
But yeah, it sounds weird that he first says "didn't read the page" and then "clicked the first thing I liked"...how do you know without reading?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

How did you manage to pick a game you like if you weren't reading haha, especially with zoomed out page. It usually takes me at least 1-2 seconds to process what game it is.
But yeah I went for bottom ones too, but they were already gone. I don't know if I refreshed exactly on time as I could only do it from mobile this week so dont see the timer, but was refreshing every second.

I did manage to get Medieval Engineers last weekend from mobile at the bottom though, but this week no luck.

I also got few games by accident thinking quicly on week 1, like Hatred I didn't realize I had or Star Wars that I thought from quickly looking was LEGO Star Wars but turned out was the strategy one instead.

I'd suggest a raffle like giveaway...
after the clock shows zero... you have 1 minute (or less) to choose 1 game (1game per hour). then a random user is picked for each game. of course currency is only deducted after winning.
that way even those with bad internet connection have a chance as well.

Permalink

Yeah, that could maybe work. But maybe an extra button with some more complicated captcha (like the one DLH has) when you click the claim button would be better

I like the idea of the better CAPTCHA.

Well, the most important is that it manages to stay fair.

So, no bots

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that Kinguin can do only one thing in this situation - to raise prices for big games, like Dying Light, NieR: Automata, Prey, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I think that if such games will cost 2000 Ninja Krowns, (you will first have to wait more than a month to accumulate so many Ninja Krowns), perhaps those who can accumulate so many Ninja Krowns will have at least 5 seconds to take a big game.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think they will run the giveaway so long + I am sure bots (if there are still bots) would start saving up too then.
That wouldn't solve anything. Nobody will log in for a month for a chance to get this in a few seconds. It isn't Chrono.gg after all.

A better solution would be to add a more complex captcha ( not just tick the box once to confirn you are not a robot) after you click the claim button for a game.

Worth mentioning that they plan to do something against the bots...we will see what it is :3

Crazy Free Weekends are here to stay, but there are problems we can’t ignore, the biggest of which are bot attacks. Listening to your feedback, soon we will start to introduce improvements — along with fun new things you can spend NinjaKrowns on. In the meantime, we bring you a Special Edition of Crazy Free Weekends.

Maybe yes, but I think these plans for future weekends, but not for current one.
I think after they implement new bot protection most of users will react on it same way. I can't even think of what they can do with it. I.e. Recapture on each claim - that will be very bad because captures are not always correct - some time ago Recapture asked to select pictures with cars - 8 pictures from 9 had cars :) but it was not correct answer. So at time then you do correct answers - keys will be gone :)

Check second image - game Sold out :D

Maybe good news ,it looks like they have been reading the complaints here and the new ideas for NinjaKrowns :)

I think more people watch this site then we realise.

Maybe only allow people who've spent over 10 £/$ on Kinguin ,though not sure if that would be fair to everyone.
It might stop some of the freeloading "bots" or whatever is going on.

Looked up Thief collection on the list Selling for 13.05 Dollars AT Moment if they give you 70%off will be $9.00
But with Steam Sale on £4.89
Which would work out at Approx $6.50 (KINGUIGN NOT A GOOD DEAL)

As i have Thief (the dark project) on disc also Thief 2(the metal age) So missing 4 Games Steam So they updated the Games that was something

But makes me laugh Specks for Thief on CD Rom are 32mb Ram (min) Direct / 6 Mouse and Keyboard / 60Mb free Hard Drive / But Needs 18.5 Free Hard Drive Space These were Windows 95/98/Me /Xp
And you would think that all Steam Games They sell would Run on a Up to date pc But NO!!!!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, some of them wouldn't be a good deal even with kinguin prices as a base...so we will see how they handle that :3

I don't know about the retail versions of the thief games, but if they don't run there's basically always a community patch available that makes them work on modern system :)
I played Thief Deadly Shadows a few months ago with a community patch and it run great on my win10 pc :)

I agree with you that it would be nice if all steam games would just run on modern systems, but I guess if steam would force the devs to do that, they would rather just remove the game from steam completely. So I'm happy that they offer older games, even if they need a bit more effort sometimes :3

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

On GOG it's GOG itself making the efforts to make them work on newer computers, and they earn probably 1/100th of Steam (on a good day), so they have no excuse really.
It's always better to just buy the old games from the people that offers them in an usable state, if you really want them.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, GOG is always a good way to get old games :)
And what they are doing is great :)
I'm not much of a GOG user unfortunately, but I hope the new galaxy client will change that.
So far it looks nice, I only hope the integration of steam will get better :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, I'm registered there for years, got a lot of free games, but still there's something that keeps me out.
First I think that very old games are really only good for nostalgia and nothing else, and I'm not a young teen, but I was when they were new, and then their prices are quite high, even on sale, but maybe bundles and Steam just got us used to steals, though IMO that's one of the pros of digital copies, no? You can't sell me the same game from the 90's for 10 years always at the same price, and the same can be said for modern games, but I do understand that they sell much less and therefore need to cope with that (I really don't think that games years after release do make you earn much if you don't lower the price, though).

Still I do like having alternatives, and that's why I do support them, even if just with words :)
