i wouldn't know since i don't have it but maybe you didn't practice enough? if i were you, i'd 100% the first game first. also it's funny how you're unhappy with it, yet it's your favorite game according to your steam profile.

I've already completed the first one and A+ most of the levels.

You've only got 6 hours in the first one. Hardly enough time to complete and get good at it.
And you don't have the sequel.
So why don't you just shut the fuck up and stop passing opinions about shit you are clearly clueless about?

i lived half a year in a place where there was no access to steam. i could only use steam download games on other places and played the games offline at home. It's legal but steam says i have only played those games for half an hour or so.

offline =/= pirated
no everyone have access to internet at all times. When I moved to my new place I waited over half a ear for internet connection - could only play previously downloaded games and access internet via mobile phone. Noone will use they mobile bandwitch to play in online mode just to keep track of their times and achievments. It's totally legit way of playing your games - try yourself - go to Steam, Click Steam at the top -> Go to offline mode.

I'm on scene 24 now. The 3rd level is an absolute nightmare. At least it was when using the dirty hands mask.

I'm actually really enjoying it. It's definitely more fun to me and far more harder although I have to admit other than huge levels and being unable to see some enemies I don't have any other problems with it. It also seems to be more story based than the first, this puts a lot of the pieces of the puzzle together.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I'm a little bit frustrated with this game, everything you're pointing out are issues that were not here in the first game. I'm not against difficulty, but yeah, being killed by enemies off-screen, it's a really poor game design choice. I'd 100% the first one, I'm not sure if I'll do the same for this one, way too broken for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't think I have single A in the sequel but scoring A wasn't so hard in most levels in the first one.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think the main thing is, you can't cheese levels with a single weapon like in the first game. If you want to keep your combo, you'll have to switch between melee and guns quite a lot. It's definitely harder, but I wouldn't say it's unfair. Enemy AI was already pretty brutal in the original too. I'm playing hard mode at the moment, and it's... well, sometimes I wanna weep like a little girl.
What I love most about HM2 is how it blends its trademark violent gameplay and a very emotional storyline. Also, this music !
Comment has been collapsed.
Completed it last night. The story absolutely blew my mind when I figured everything out. Didn't like much of the level design, felt somewhat forced to cheese out enemies because some levels were just too huge. The masks were kinda meh, too gimmicky. All in all, it's still a good game, not as good as the original.
Comment has been collapsed.
Enemies: HM2 enemies didn't changed much. Biggest changes are "door-stuck bug" and "running at you when they see you running between walls". But melee enemies are the same as they were, ranged enemies could shoot you out of map in HM1, dogs are as vicious as they were.
The reason why you think enemies are harder is because of level design, which I also believe doesn't really work some times - they made way too many open (and bigger) levels while giving nearly all enemies ranged weapons. You don't have much space to hide, bullets fly from out of view range and while most of HM1 levels could be won using melee weapons, HM2 wants you to play "peak-a-boo with a shotgun" game.
Anyway, liking it so far (probably just finished son story, since I got achievo).
Comment has been collapsed.
But if you peak-a-boo you can't get high scores.....

Same as you. I lost interest in Act 3 .. or VHS tape 3 .. whatever it was called. I got tired and quit, returned the next day only to find I've to do the whole thing all over again and it was like half an hour of the same frustrating levels. Ugh. Have you done the levels where the fans enter a building and you change chars between the floors? Awful. The game at very least needs more save points if not tweaks to the levels.
Also don't like that guns are pretty much compulsory. I played the first game like 95% of the time with melee.

I've completed it after lots of frustrations. It's just very cheap and unimaginative of the developer to use such tactics to make the game hard.

The enemies are crazy. They shoot at you from OUTSIDE of visual range. Most of the time you won't even see what shot you. The dogs behave like heat seeking missiles. The melee enemies seem to be trained by Bruce Lee. *

Just reading that make me remember when players started to play Dark Souls xD
I still remember the rants about the game... "OMG the monsters hit more hard than myself, the archers can kill from far away, it become boring to do the same thing over and over and over because i die too much, the game is not fair" But still is was a good and hard game D:

Start with the first one or you will go nuts playing the sequel.

Is it frustrating? Yes. Spending 40-50 minutes in the later levels to get a D+ rating doesn't lift my spirits. But it's supposed to be unforgiving. They wanted the sequel to be harder than the first one. And that's what they got. The hardest levels in the first game were the ones with multiple enemies with guns, open spaces, and lots of windows. So they made the sequel even harder by adding more windows and more open spaces. But they did what they wanted, what good sequels do: take the concept of the first game and do more with it in the sequel.
I'm 11 hours in and in the Son's levels and I think it's a great game. Frustrating, yes, unforgiving, yes. But I still think it's a great game. Like I said, getting straight D+ ratings doesn't lift my spirits. But conquering a level after spending nearly an hour at it does, just like in the first game. Finishing the first level with Alex and Ash in 90 seconds doesn't hurt, either. The general message I see from the negative reviews are "it's not exactly like the first game." Like I said, they took the first game's formula and added to it. And I think it works.

It seems Dennis something tried too hard with this game.

Some of the level designs are just plain terrible to the point where it becomes unfun to do over and over again just to get through. It's, quite frankly, tiresome to play the same level over and over unlike the first one where it never became boring.
The predecessor was tough but it was fair. The sequel is tougher and very very unfair towards to the player and his skills. All those enemy traits above are just some cheap tactics inserted by the developer to add variety.
