Fedoras used to be so cool... Sadly those filthy hipsters stole them :(
You're thinking Trilby hats, I think.

I didn't know the name but now that you mention it I have seen those hats before (on TV) but I was actually talking Fedoras since I've occasionally seen guys wearing those here in Austria (contrary to the Trilby).
The difference (not between the 2 types of hats) is that the Fedora on its own is a good looking hat, I've just not seen a guy that can pull it off (mostly because in my opinion it doesn't work with sports jacket and T-shirt) while the Trilby looks really cheasy on it's own and I doubt anybody can pull that off and get away with it.

Odd. It's always actually trilbys over here [for "Hipster" wear], or when I encounter the topic discussed online [such as, in this case, with mislabeled Payday 2 DLC].
and I doubt anybody can pull [a trilby] off and get away with it.
:cough:

So you're saying this is actually a Trilby ? I thought the wide brim on the front would make it a Fedora. (hard to say from the picture how wide it is on the sides)
General rules don't appy to Sean Connery :D I will never understand how so many people can dislike him as a Bond.

Fedoras are wider than that (and are consistently wide around the entire hat), have less sharply defined crowns, and have a soft brim which comes down slightly in the front. Fedoras favor a taller and more pronounced band, while tribys generally (but not always) prefer a narrow, subtle band. By contrast, the trilby usually comes slightly up in the front (and never dips) and, in what is generally the easiest way to tell triblys apart from other hats, has a narrow, raised edge along the back (but nowhere else- unlike, for example, the homburg).
In more general terms, if you think it has more in common with a bowler hat, it's probably a trilby, and if you think it has more in common with a cowboy hat, it's probably a fedora.
If you look at the Payday 2 hat, you'll notice the narrow brim, the firm construction, the sharp pointing at the front of the crown, and the raised edge along the back. Add in the subtle banding, and you've got a pretty by-the-book trilby, with no trace of the elements you'd expect from the fedora it claims to be.
