sry folks I had an eyelid surgery to take something out and was under compression bandage for the last day, couldn't even look at the screen with my other eye... have just a regular eyepatch bandage now so it's a bit easier to read but shouldn't strain my eyes yet... I'll probably read and respond to most of the messages here with time, thank you all for posting.

I think it's mainly ignorance, apathy, and stupidity, not evil, that is to blame

Yes, considering humans, lack of empathy => evil acts not being intentional. I think when presented with the opportunity, that people are innately good, however still tribal.

I used to think it mattered how good you were at something. Now I know it only matters how good you can get other people to believe you are

Yeah, also, I think there is some truth in what Woody Allen said "80 percent of success, is showing up". The mere incompetence of professionals can be daunting, yet the other side of the same coin can provide encouragement due to the fact that one can outperform said professionals if one is inclined to do so. But more in the spirit of what you said, marketing over skills.

having had a very... unusual career, I can say that "looking and acting the part" matters more than almost everything else.

The biggest indicator of your outcome in life is the situation of your birth.

I still remember the moment that I realized that I would someday cease to exist. I think before that I just assumed that I would go on forever. Needless to say, I was very young at the time.

I didn't like zucchinis growing up, so my mom convinced me they were just cooked cucumbers. Still don't like zucchinis.

how did your mother convince you that courgettes (zucchinis) were cooked cucumbers? :P - I mean what did she tell you raw cucumbers were? - they are a total different vegetables and don't look alike. Not sure I mind either way, I just love this statement, as it shows how much we believe the half assed drivvle that we get fed by our parents :) Made me chuckle either way

I thought it was possible for people to become old and wise enough that nothing in this wide world could then shock them.

The world, alas, can come up with new, ingenious ways of shocking us all.

I assumed my dad was always right -- then I realized that lots of people think they are always right, with directly conflicting views, and concluded that none of them were always right. Which, unfortunately, made every single one of them mad at me and made them try to fight each other to try to take control over my mind. For those interested in the outcome, I ended up just leaving the arena and seeing the facts for myself.

IQ's point is to show that 100IQ is literally the most average person. So if IQ's so necessary here, you'll have 50% of the population under that 50%.

Regardless, IQ testing isn't always the best way to measure intelligence, so there isn't huge pressure to care for it. :D

True. IQ and EQ but also wisdom and education and skills are important when combined all together.

But when I hear things like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6hz4y3eJ-A

Eh, he's just making Reddit videos. I know it's low-effort stuff that basically relies on other people to do the work, but it's just the free market. ;)

As to the Kevins there, there are some stories that are legit odd, but often enough it just falls to the "Don't assume everyone knows what you already know" trap. We're all Kevins. It's just a question of how we treat all the other Kevins and how we handle our own "Kevinecity" :D

I don't know, maybe that the government and other authorities had the everyday people's best interests at heart ahead of corporate ones. The sad reality is that things always seem to be monetarily-motivated nowadays, which is why so many of our problems never seem to get solved even though it may be possible. Just goes to show you how unevolved we are as a species.

I'd say it depends on the country and in that case it often depends on the politician.

When you look at the Corruption Perceptions Index, you'll see great examples of countries that have very little corruption, but you can easily point out to many countries that seem to be extremely corrupt.

Hopefully the situation improves.

That by being good to others they will in turn be good to you. Instead people will use you and discard you when you're no good to them anymore.

I mean, I understand if you genuinely don't have a single friend and are abandoned by family. It's gotta be rough and you've obviously been dealt a bad hand.

But trust me, not everyone's like that. I was lucky enough to find multiple supportive friend groups. You'll find them as well. Gotta just keep your eyes open :)

If you're struggling to think of a good place to find friends, I recommend different chat groups, like going on Discord. But if that's not your style, then even being chatty on multiplayer games is pretty successful. Not all friendships you make there will stick, but some of them will. If you need any more ideas, then feel free to ask :)

I grew up in the desert. Where I come from, you can see rain clouds rolling in, and when the rain actually comes, it's black as night outside. The heavens open up, and it pours so hard that even with your windshield wipers on high, you STILL can't see the road!

When I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I was stunned to see it raining and complete daylight outside... and it didn't RAIN, it misted. Blew my mind! We rarely get what I would call "real" rain around here. lol~

And now when I hear Have you ever seen the rain on a sunny day?, I can say, "Yes, I have!"
