Skyrim and Fallout are RPG games with open world and a lot of hours of play time. Which one do you prefer? Post-apocalyptic Fallout world or fantasy Skyrim world.

Fallout 1, 2 and tactics are awesome !

I prefer them by far to either Skyrim or the recent fallouts.

I preferred Fallout, mostly because the sci-fi post apocalypse is more of the "Show" ethos, whereas Skyrim as a fantasy world with a long recorded history tends to rely on a lot of "Tell" ethos. Also, magic cannot be intuited, you wave your hands and stuff happens, whereas at least with sci-fi you can hazard guesses towards what the hell you just picked up. Fallout 3 absorbed me far better than Skyrim, even if Skyrim has that spooky beauty thing going on.

Also, the dual-handed weirdness in Skyrim was a source of much frustration given I was a stealth-mage and tended to switch my active spells and weapons often.

I prefer the two recent Fallout titles over Skyrim, but Oblivion and Morrowind trump everything.

I prefer the Fallout franchise. I've been in love with the post apocalyptic setting for a way longer time than a fantasy setting. :)

Fallout 2 > NV

Yes but that wasn't part of the question, NV is a pretty great Fallout game on its own, the same can't be said about 3, while a decent game it should not even have the Fallout name.

Fallout 2 will probably always be the peak of the series.

Oh I didn't notice (3/NV) in the title. I only read the description, which also applies to the first two games.

  1. Fallout 3 - because of the story; great DLCs.
  2. Skyrim - because of the combat system and there's always stuff to do.
  3. NV - simply because I didn't like anything out of it. It was unplayable for me without mods.

Fallout world hands down, but the elder scrolls world is cool too. and if i had to pick between fallout 3 and NV, i'd go with 3, but i might just say that cus im from right outside DC and while its not entirely accurate I love exploring The Capital Wasteland!

FO3: Even without mods, the game is fucking amazing
Skyrim: With mods, it's a good story and huge
FO:NV: There's no need to wander. Unlike FO3 where wandering off into the wasteland is awarded, there's just no need to do it in NV. Also needs mods in order to run without crashing.

Frankly, you are sort of comparing the wrong set. Skyrim is a stage newer in development.
FO3/NV pair up with Oblivion.

I've only player FO3 out of those, so I guess I like sci-fi a tad better than fantasy.

Over those 3, fallout 3 is the king. New vegas had it's moments, i only enjoyed a few things, some of the community mods and some of the dlc, fallout 3 tops it though.

Skyrim... it's fun but i got bored of it, went through two playthroughs so far and haven't finished any of them since i always end up exploring the entire freaking map rather than do the main storyline, sigh.

Imo i would say Fallout 3 (did 4 complete playthroughs + dlc, 2 pc 2 xbox 360, might do a new one on 360 when i get the chance) and TES oblivion (2 playthroughs, going to start a 3rd whenever i get to replay it on steam) to be on top, enjoyed these the most, followed by skyrim and then NV. I have morrowind, people say it's amazing but i haven't played it that much, didn't seem that amazing to me but i'm not going to jump into conclusions so early. Need to give it a try sometime later again.

Yup, Fallout 2 was the first RPG I played. This might mean I'm biased, but those first Fallout games were in a class of their own.

I realy liked the first 3 Fallout games (1st, 2nd and Tactics). The Fallout 3 and NV are crap for me that I never enjoyed. But Skyrim is totaly different and awesome, hard to believe it's from the same company that made Fallout 3/NV.
